Walters River Café reviews
40Because they are only option on the spot it doesn’t mean they could do service however they want! I have ordered 2 takeaways coffee. Tall blonde barista was not paying attention to his coffee shots or milk frothing and ended up burned milk coffee.
$7.50 for a “large” chips with about half a potato’s worth of chips.
$8 for a kids milkshake which was 100% froth.
Outside tables broken and dirty.
Cold coffee which tasted like Instant sachets.
Whatever happened to value for money?
Won’t be back. Disappointed.
Great cafe right on the water with a playground nearby for kids.
Great Sunday outing…
Gave it another go after having a terrible takeaway coffee which I couldn’t drink the other week. The coffee this morning not much better and the takeaway toasties sat there going cold while waiting for the coffee. Used to be such a nice little cafe with great food and coffee and staff.
Lovely setting just off the beach. The atmosphere was really nice, the share plate was well presented with just enough food for two and the brownie was delicious.
Great location, mediocre food.
Steak sandwich was the most disappointing we’ve had, itty bitty bit of water thin steak in a super crispy Turkish bread.
Burger was less than 1/2 size of the bun also, and super thin and bland.
If it was a cheap meal you might overlook it, but it was not.
Like is said, great location.but pack picnic!
Lovely location. Dreadful food. We had the mixed platter. The Arancini Balls were the only enjoyable part - the Turkish bread tasted old. The chicken was tough and tasteless. The rest was not good. Very disappointing lunch to catch up with friends.
Had Ceasar salad, however it was served with cold cooked runny egg, which was not appealing at all, considering the chicken was served warm on salad.
Ordered food with gf dietary and the wait time was 30 mins…wasn’t even busy at the time so leaving a bad review
Just had a couple of dine in coffees which were good but took about 20 minutes to make during which time we sweltered on the enclosed verandah section because the evaporative air-conditioner was pumping out hot air. Clearly the unit needs servicing because the ones inside the resturant were OK.probably not the venue for a hot day
We enjoyed a very nice lunch today - Thai beef salad and grilled salmon - with prompt, friendly service and would happily return.
Went to lunch yesterday with two friends we weren’t very hungry so shared three starters which were all very good, priced well, lovely staff, only complaint is that yesterday was very hot and the air conditioning doesn’t work well, but will definitely be back Well done
View: 5/5, Service: 5/5, Fish’n’chips: 5/5, Thai Green Curry: 1/5, Flat White Coffee: 2/5.
Overall a disaster for me but the wife’s meal was excellent. The Thai curry was rubbish. How can you serve rice that’s the consistency of a brick, and they did it twice twice.
Waited half an hour to order, than an hour for food, food didn’t arrive together and forgot an order. The food was cold, and service was not good, really disappointing.
Recently saw this place online and decided to go try it with some friends last night. It was amazing.
Tried this place twice. First time gave up on the order after an hour. Tried again giving them the benefit of the doubt. Gave up again after an hour. Cannot tell you about the food as they couldn't get it on the table. Won't get those two hours back and I will never return. Went to Zephers around the corner and had great food in 15 mins. Would advise staff training and some sort of organization.
Once ok, twice. A joke.
Visited yesterday with friends, had the most delicious arancini balls I have ever tasted. Surrounded by aoili and shaved parmesan. Absolutely yummy. Two in my group had the Asian style chicken soup, which they thought was delicious with plenty of chicken, and another had the bruschetta, which he maintained was incredibly tasty, and all the dishes looked so well presented and the apple cider was deliciously sweet and refreshing. A wonderful surprise, as I hadn't visited for many years. Thank you so much for a surprisingly delicious meal and well priced menu
Food was tasty, service was fast and the staff were friendly helpful and accomadating. Prices were reasonable. A nice way to end the morning.
Not air-conditioned but has split-open windows that push-up/pull-down for ventilation with ceiling fans, so probably unideal on a day of extreme heat.
We visited on a not so hot Monday 3rd Jan Public Holiday where there was a 15% surcharge. Ordered 5 dishes to share between 5 adults and a toddler along with 4 beverages and paid just under $200, probably on the pricey side for a casual meal at a cafe/restaurant but understandable in the current climate of lack-of-staff with forever hiking pay-rise to keep existing staff.
Steak sandwich ($25) was awesome and by far a standout dish that we'd definitely go back for.
Warm Thai Beef Salad ($25) was drenched in sauce which would normally be fine by me but unfortunately far too salty in my personal opinion, and too warm of a dish on a summer day - would not order again.
Fish and chips ($24) was on par with expectations, did not disappoint but not a standout either, and would probably order again as a share plate with a toddler.
Tomato based Linguini (?) ($21) topped with feta (?) was a rather disappointing dish, despite being a descent serving, the flavours were neither here nor there and would never order again.
Ceasar salad ($20) with salt pepper squid add-on for $6 was very dry and visually unappetising, and only had 4-5 pieces of squid, which definitely was not worth the money and would never order again.
Mango smoothie ($7.9) with orange juice replacement as they ran out of mango nectar was a toddler favourite but overpriced for the simple blend of mango, ice cream and oj, and did not reorder despite a "more" request from the toddler.
Also visited the kiosk next door, operated by the same kitchen on the other end for takeaway only, to order $5 flat-whites, which was more like a 20% surcharge on a $4.2 drink, and the coffee was so weak that it tasted very bland and diluted - undrinkable and would never order again.
Overall, wouldn't visit again if I had the luxury of time to pack some picnic food/drinks, and in the unlikely event of a revisit, would stick to just a cold beer with a steak sandwich.
