Worst place to study. Teachers and staff is not good and arrogant. This place whole study environment is not good at all.

I had a very pleasant experience with the WA Academy on March 24,2023. The staff and students in training were all very accommodating and were able to replicate my desired style very closely, working with my personal circumstances. Lovely service.

I can’t say my experience with wa beauty academy in Bentley has been great. My only highlights are the amazing lecturers Clare and Alice. The beautiful ladies on reception and the friends I’ve made there.
Aside from that I 100% believe I’ve wasted my time and money there.
During my course the source material was changed to skin deep, frustrating having only been given magazines as guides for several units but not all. So much theory during class time not much spent on practical learning.

Aside from the two lecturers I’ve mentioned the others where completely under qualified, half of them didn’t even have their TA which I’m aware you need to have to be able to mark a student off as competent within their units.

I’ve sat in class listening to a lecturer degrade a student over wearing makeup to the point I stepped in and said enough, for the lecturer then continue to carry on and waste my time and everyone else’s time to the point students needed to walk out of the class. This was the only incident I can say the principle keryn dealt with appropriately.

Lecturers would go on power trips and use their status above you to embarrass you or degrade you which I’ve witness happen on multiple occasions especially if you were younger and less experienced.

The way the place is kept, I’m very surprised ohs hasn’t paid them a visit, if you are looking to enrol be sure that you are aware you are expected to clean, washing, hang towels up, sweeping mopping rooms and kitchen area. Again this will cut into your practical learning.

A lot of the students have a lot of love for Claire, she is always caring of all her students. Claire is the best person to ask any and all questions to, no question is ever dumb. She builds positive relationships with her students.

Students have said keryn will come into the class room and talk down to Clare in-front of them. Saying she’s too soft she’s not teaching them anything. No wonder students request her because she’s a push over. Considering the amount of staff she has hired that has come and gone with constant complaints it’s refreshing for a lecturer to treat you as an equal, Clare has been consistent she has stepped up and ran multiple classes at once because of the shortage of staff leaving all the time. While marking and teaching and practical assessments running between 4 rooms at once. I would Have left a lot earlier if it wasn’t for Clare and she deserves a lot more respect then what is given to her. She has kept the academy afloat.

The other students I’ve spoke to over the years while studying have all been the same when asked, they were unhappy and all the academy wants is for you to spend more and more money for their mistakes.

I could go on and on about the issues ive had with the academy I’m happy to answer any questions anyone has
My only suggestion of what to do and not do if enrolling. Everything Mentioned below is feedback I’ve received from many many students. Many current students too scared to speak until they are finished with their study.

1. Main one, dont go look else where.
2. Document every single thing take photos of what you completed, assessments marked by you and your lecturer and photos of all your consultations forms, These tend to get lost a lot throughout and you end up with lots of resits as they aren’t in your file. Always have proof your word and lecturers word means nothing.
3. Always check in with reception about your resits and assessments if you have any outstanding.
4. Always use email with speaking to keryn always document your conversations as one thing will be said and taken back once you are face to face. Have it all in writing
5. If you are having a meeting with her BRING SOMEONE WITH YOU. She will intimidate you, and assumes the less you know the more she can get away with. Take down notes during.
6. If you have done all the things correctly when lodging a complaint and it’s unresolved. You need to contact Training Accreditation Council as the academy is a privately own business call 9224 6510

Absolutely a disgrace this is the worst training salon ever this shouldn’t be in business all equipment there is disgusting nothing gets cleaned most of the lectures there have favourited always targeting the younger girls. The lectures never teach their students properly and pass other students who havnt done their assessment. Called the other day wanting my folder back and they said they threw it out like it’ was there own property I find this rude and disrespectful. The principle there will yell at you and your parent saying you’re a horrible student and you’re not worthy. This place is a dumb and is shocking I hope no one else has to go threw the same problems.

Impressed by the overall experience, had my hair coloured by a wonderful student Larni. Highly recommend, affordable and professional. Students are all just so lovely and are doing their best. I’ll be returning for sure.

I studied here for four weeks, I didn’t enjoy the content at all and financially couldn’t afford the repayments after having major changes to my financial situation. Although I withdrew within a month of the yearlong course, they still lumped me with a $12564 debt! I am terrified and getting really threatening emails to repay this immediately so upsetting.

They don't teach their students well. I had been there twice as a model. Once for nails and once for back massage. My nail were horrible and my back is injured. I will have to go to the doctors, got x-rays done. I think it will take long to get better or my back will be permanently damaged.
PLEASE BANE THIS PLACE

Had my hair re-styled at the WA Academy yesterday. It was my first time being a model and Jess Quinn, my student, was such a delight. I threw her a curve ball, requesting something she hadn't done before. With guidance from her lecturer, she did it and I'm super pleased with the result. Yes, it did take longer than at a proper salon but you've got to give the students a chance to learn. Being an educator myself, it was great to see Kirsty the lecturer helping, teaching, encouraging and trusting the students. The relationship between student and teacher was great to see. I have not laughed so much having a hair cut done, ever! Thank you for the enjoyable experience

CERT II NAIL TECHNOLOGY

Unfortunately my experience here was really disappointing given the price of the course so I am writing this review with the hopes that I’ll save someone else’s time and money because the learning experience here was shocking, and knocked my confidence tremendously as I left with a certificate yet still felt completely unqualified and disappointed by the quality of work. Firstly, you DO NOT need this certificate to practice nail technology in Australia (something I only learnt after beginning the course) and if becoming a nail technician is something you’re interested in I’d suggest going through a private educator that can offer real time, in the moment, on the spot feedback as you’re practicing these techniques for the first time! These pieces of feedback are vital as you’re learning but you don’t get at this academy as the class size is quite big (with some students needing you give pedicures in $30 foot baths) and the course is heavily structured around theory so during my experience the lecturers spent their time marking during class hours instead of offering feedback. In the first few weeks of the course I was left to practice on a plastic nail tip glued to a cotton bud (Something we were advised to do if we didn’t have a plastic model hand which we were never never told to purchase before beginning, but even these plastic hands dont replicate the real thing perfectly as the products dont adhere to plastic that well so they’re very difficult to learn on).

With something like nails, being as intricate as they are, the tiny details are really important, so in a class demonstration where 15 + people were asked to gather around a desk, you would be left standing at a distance where you could see the basic steps, but would miss the smaller details of application which are EXTREMELY important in a nail application. Similar demonstrations can be found on YouTube where a close up camera angle can give you more insight into what you need to know, and I found a lot of these videos more helpful than the lessons for this reason.

The products provided in the course are really low quality making learning with them really difficult too as they’re horrible to work with. You also only work with an e-file using sandbands, which they say is for “safety” however if you’re graduating with a certificate that costs $2k it should be in the best interest of the school to show their students how to properly use the latest equipment on the market (including drill bits) that allows you to work more quickly and efficiently. Staying up to date with industry standards is something that’s covered in the course work too which I found very hypocritical since the school isn’t reflecting that in the practical side of their assessments.
The UV lamps were often damaged, old, dirty. The nail polish was old clumpy (thinned out with acetone when bought to the staffs attention) and the theory of the course was very repetitive with each unit asking the same questions about very basic occupational health and safety like “what do you do if a vacuum is broken? ” Or “Who do you speak to if there is an incident with a customer involving a chemical that made their skin red and itchy? ” (Both these things can often vary from workplace to workplace depending on protocol).

I have given this two stars because the staff at reception were lovely and efficient with follow ups and the lecturer herself (Crystal) was very talented at what she did however this course is not designed for the best student outcome, it’s designed for the business to profit as much as they can.

If I could give half a star I would. I attended TWO classes of their makeup course before my personal circumstances unexpectedly changed meaning I could not afford to pay for any more classes. (More than early enough in the course for my spot to be taken). The owner was very nasty in response and insists I somehow pay out the remaining 6+ months of the course even though I won't be attending. I didn't ask for a refund of anything I'd paid so far, just not to be charged for a service I wasn't receiving.

I had a really bad experience regarding to the nail course in WA Academy.
My trainer is called Maree who is from New Zealand.
She could not pronounce my name right in the class, and I tried to let her know how to call my name correctly at that time. She ended up told everyone in the class that my English was not good.
She also forced me to take off my black jacket in the class when I felt super cold in winter and only wearing a pricey $60 thin shirt. Just because that day was a school open day.
This is the worst school I never have in my life, as a new migrant I don't recommend anyone to go there. I paid $1800 for the course and $60 for the shirt. BTW, students in WA academy have to mop the floor, empty the bin, wash the toilets.
Finally, I went to TAFE where is the proper government school, much more professional and respect people from different countries, no discrimination. And there are cleaners to maintain the environment.
I hope WA Academy could improve their education services not treating people differently.

Would also love to leave 0 stars but 1 is the lowest allowable. One of the most terrible experiences I have ever had to deal with in my entire life. The Director Keryn Carter is a tyrant and is only interested in making money. Absolutely shocking lady to deal with, and an absolutely shocking place to attend for student treatments. I avoid WA Academy and all Volona stores now like the plague. All is good when things are going good, but be warned, the minute you are unhappy with anything and try to speak up, this lady will trample you. She is confident she has everything legally covered, but one day she will be held accountable for her actions. BUYER BEWARE!

I have recently completed my Provide lash and brow course at the WA Academy and I couldn’t recommend them enough! I have done many of courses here at the academy and loved them all! My lecturer this time around was Laura, she made all classes fun and gave us her personal tips for the course as well! There’s always a friendly welcoming smile whether it be Charlotte or Kat but both very welcoming and always there to answer you questions in regards to the courses! They use top end products and have the best facilities available to students! Can’t wait to see what course is next!
