The Groper & His Wife reviews
57Average food, very pricey. Ridiculous for a take away venue to charge public holiday surcharge.
Taste so good and the seafood is quite fresh. My son loves the Fish N Chips so much
Highly recommend
Have been coming here for a few years and usually excellent standard with fresh tasty fish and crisp chips, we havent been for a few months. However tonight's meal suggested a change of ownership? Chips were greasy and soft very disappointing, also huge serving that we could never eat, wasteful. Fish wasnt up to usual standard. Usually they dressed the salads on serving but noticed salads were dressed which had made some parts sloppy/soft and too much dressing applied. If the new owners can bring up the standard will try again otherwise will have to find another f&c shop.
Used a Scoopon and the deal was amazing.beautiful seafood platter with all the trimmings.salad and chips and great glass of wine - friendly staff - can highly recommend ******
Had the snapper and chips. Snapper not fresh and dry, batter, just crispy nothing, full of grease.very disappointed.
Fantastic fish and chips! Wonderful owners and staff and family friendly venue. Highly recommend Groper & His Wife.
The fish is so fresh and tasty. The batter is crispy and golden brown. The chips are seasoned perfectly. Great service as always.
Ordered over the phone and the meals were ready exactly as I walked into the shop. The crumbed gold band snapper was perfectly cooked and chips were superb, both probably the best we’ve had for some time. Well done.
Quite expensive - small fish pieces that were pretty old and rubbery. Used to be good but not so much now.
Had take away from there on Sunday night. It was the most expensive and overcooked, tasteless fish and chips I've ever had. $54 for one grilled pink snapper, one battered pink snapper, chips and potato cakes. Not on especially as the grilled snapper was extremely dry. Thank you for reminding me of why I rarely order fish and chips. Will most definitely not be back.
Great fish and chips a bit pricy but the batter is thin and crispy the fish is fresh not frozen, and beer battered chips will definatly return
Our group of friends visited on a Sunday evening, the centre was quite busy which gave the place atmosphere. The food was very good with generous serves. Everyone found something on the menu and all were happy with their meals.
I was very disappointed with my first and last visit to this take away. After spending nearly 12 hours in a hospital, my brothers and sister did not want to cook. I recommended the fish and chips near home. Not only is $20 extortion for fish and chips but we all felt sick an hour after eating and the next morning. Your pathetic portions were very sad, to fill a box with chips that may have cost you all of $2 if that and then 2 sample taste of fish was an insult. I have no idea why your always so busy, do your customers just have no idea how to judge good food or are all of City Beach just too scared to share the truth. How this place managed to get 4 stars I will never know.
A great place, friendly staff and a menu with lots of variety and options. Very tasty fish and chips. It is a little pricey but it is worth it, as it isn't your standard fish and chip place. Also a nice park across the street to sit and enjoy your meal. Will be back!
Had lunch at the Claremont restaurant. They had a special $19.90 for snapper mussels and a beer. I asked if I could have a salad with the fish instead of mussels and beer and I was charged extra for the salad! Not very fair I think.
It was ok. Nothing great for the price though. Chips were quite good but fish was not drained and so oily we felt sick afterwards.
For a similar price bracket Pescado (Rivervale) and North Beach Fish & Chips (Beach Rd) provide much better taste and fish.
We used to go here a lot but have noticed it going downhill lately. They generally turn off the phone during peak times and don't do online orders which is very frustrating. I turned up at 6: 20pm, ordered and had to wait outside for almost 40 minutes for my order (3 serves). Meanwhile a steady stream of Uber Eats were collected. The grilled snapper was quite nice but the battered shark wasn't. Chips were really dry and overcooked. They have lost a loyal customer.
Very disappointed
It's been 2 years since I was here
And the portion size for your $ is embarrassing
Won't be back
The fish seemed fresh, but the preparation was bad. Everything was slimy and oily. I tried their special crispy breading on the fish and it tasted horrible. I don't recommend this place.
Extremely disappointing.
We waited of an hour for 1 peice of grilled fish and 1 serving of squid rings. Would not recommend
