The Bonsai Restaurant & Cafe Lounge reviews
50We love the experience of dining at Bonsai. Isaac and the team always provide splendid, understated service and the cuisine is consistently excellent; Bravo!
This is one of our favourite restaurants. My husband has a dairy allergy, and Isaac always caters for him and alters the dishes accordingly. This is one of the reasons why we keep coming back. Each dish is mouth watering and the service and ambience are second to none! Thank you, Isaac and staff.
Great customer service. Also the food were so yummy,
We shared a selection of small plates. Definitely recommend this idea. We got the Japanese Fried Chicken, Beef wrapped asparagus, prawn spring rolls, a creme brûlée for dessert. This was more then enough for the two people.
Great combined with some sake.
Food was delicious and the place has a great atmosphere.
Highly recommended
Booked for 6 pm…. Arrived at shown to a table all on its own in front of serving area…take it or leave it they said… rest of place empty
Great food, amazing customer service. We came here for a birthday and ordered the set menu. The management were very flexible and accomodating with our requests and needs. The food was all very good and great value for what we paid - we were all stuffed after and they even given a complimentary dish which was a very pleasant surprise. Would definitely recommend and be back sooner rather than later.
Beyond disappointing. Not Japanese food. Walked out still hungry. Don't believe the ratings.
Beautiful food! Highly recommend the grilled prawns with avocado cream, wow so yum! Will definitely be coming back.

Food was delicious and the place has a great atmosphere, very lively but not so loud you can't hold a conversation easily.
I never noticed this restaurant because it’s a bit dark and seems like they always close. But definitely it’s worth to try.
I’ve had a set menu for 2 people definitely really worth it. Foods keep coming and very tasty. The steak on the set menu absolutely stunner. Recommended!
The plum jelly alcohol was fantastic to accompany your foods here. Forgot to took a pictures because we are too excited to try all the dishes One of the best japanese in Perth so far.
Sake is wonderful. Food is amazing and small but perfect bites for me. Im not a big eater and it's a go to place for me.
This has been our big family dining place for decades. Tastes haven't been changed. Always get a quality service and friendly staffs. Isaac, owner (I think), always seem to remember his customers preferences.
Free parking available through CPP Roe Street (up to 3 hours) after 18.00 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (depends on CPP free parking promotions).
Kids friendly with the high chair availability upon request.
Waiting time for food to come needs to be improved a little bit but overall experience been good. The room has been a little bit dark but it's perfect for couple and romantic dining.
Unagi is one of my favourites dish and cooked and seasoned to my liking. Their special set course meal is a must try and you were able to taste a little bit of everything.
Serving size is a bit small and wont be full however it's about fine dining, great night out and good atmosphere.
Went for dinner last night. From start to finish, absolutely quality service. Isaac was fantastic. Actually read the booking and allergy/food requirements and stated what foods contained as to not cause harm. Food was sensational, service was even better, will definitely being going back
We went to The Bonsai tonight for my girlfriends birthday and we had such a good time. Lovely staff, great food, and a really good vibe. Also, only paid about $68 each, splitting our bill between 6, and none of us left hungry. Really loved my main (the duck) and the warm sake.
Would 100% recommend.:)
Good sushi, great softshell crabs and prawns. Atmosphere and decor is nothing special but the food quality hits the mark.
My favourite restaurant I have been too in the whole of Australia. The food is so juicy and the staff are very friendly and welcoming
Very below average experience. Food, drinks, service, ambience all quite disappointing. Save your money and skip this one.
Limited items in the menu. Completely ordinary dishes, nothing outstanding. Too expensive for the quality and size of dishes. The dessert was too sweet. Overall does not worth the $$$.
Tasty, enjoyable meal. We really enjoyed the food but were puzzled by the non-Japanese feel of it. This is not a criticism of the food but a disconcerting deviation from what we expected. For instance, the tempura of the day wasn't tempura. Rather than being deep fried in light tempura batter, it was cooked in fine breadcrumbs - tasty but not tempura. The presentation lacked the Japanese touch. The decor was neither Japanese upmarket nor Japanese grot. Once you adapted your expectations and settled into the food it was enjoyable for itself.
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. We had the set menu and walked away full and satisfied. The dishes are interesting and the owner is very friendly. The lady waitress however need more training though. We love to go back hopefully when there are new menu to try.
