The team were exceptionally knowledgeable and went out of their way to make women feel welcome and capable in the workshop. Their focus on safety was very reassuring and they made the whole learning process really enjoyable. I would highly recommend their classes for anyone starting out or looking to step up their skills.

I attended the “Handsaws and Chisels” course last week, hoping to learn how to properly use the tools I’ve been botching my way along with for years. The course was EXACTLY what I was looking for! A thorough and engaging course on the use of these tools with lots of practice, theory and a little history thrown in as well. David’s passion for woodworking is evident and his skills as a teacher are top notch. He had my complete attention for over 3 hours. I cannot recommend this business highly enough.

Furniture Finishing workshop I went to today was very informative. We covered all aspects of the course outline advertised with some practical hands on work and Dave gave a lot of relevant practical examples gained through his years of experience. Looking forward to another course in the future.

I just completed the Advanced Introductory Woodworking course. It was a great experience - very interesting and easy to follow along. David is a brilliant teacher! Would highly recommend.

Such an amazing experience. Dave was patient and understanding of my difficult roster and accommodated me at a later date. He was informative, friendly, and made it a great experience. You learn how to use a ton of tools as well as how to use them safely. I did the advanced introductory course and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to dip their toes into woodworking!

With relatively little experience in woodworking and with some initial trepidation, I spent the last two Saturdays with David doing the Advanced Introductory course.

The course was fantastic and with David and Jeff as our tutors, felt very safe working on those power tools, and in the end delivering a really neat final product.

I learned a lot and was particularly fascinated with the history of certain tools that David had a lot of knowledge about.

The facility had everything you would ever need to do woodworking and all very well-maintained.

My father-in-law and I have already decided we wil be back for another course, likely to be the hall table course.

It's been a few years since I first met David and booked a few hours at his workshop in Belmont in the early days and I loved every minute of it. I made myself a solid workbench followed by a beautiful Vic Ash queen sized bed which my wife and I still use today.

I then completed the tool sharpening workshop a few years later (well worth doing).

Whether it's a workshop course or workshop hours, you won't find a more welcoming place with expert advice and help to match, than Perth Wood School.

Can't wait to eventually get back one day and spend a few more hours in the workshop. I can highly recommend it.

One of the best experiences I've had in recent years. I was gifted a workbench course and from the first moment I walked in I felt welcomed, supported and in expert hands. Nine short hours later I have something that I'll take with me the rest of my life; the new found confidence and beginner skills needed take on more fun personal woodworking projects jobs at home. Oh and a fantastic workbench.

If you want to get hooked on woodworking, then, this is the place. David and Jeff are awesome teachers. I did both the introductory woodworking level and a cheese platter and besides the extra knowledge taught in a very pedagogical way you get to have a lot of fun. Dreaming now about having a space where I can set up a woodworking bench and start with my own projects. Safety is a top priority so even without any knowledge or previous experience you will feel like cruising!

Hands down one of the best classes I’ve ever attended. Already eyeing up several of the other classes and I can’t recommend David and team enough.

I did the beginner woodwork course today. As mentioned by all the other reviewers, David is an exceptional teacher that is clearly passionate about the craft. The lessons are very effective at building confidence and interest in the subject matter.

On a safety note - one dangerous thing about the class to watch out for is that you might end up hooked on the idea of woodworking and strongly contemplate turning a room of your house into a workshop…

Completed the Introductory Woodworking course with David and Grace. A great experience with two very friendly and professional people who quite obviously have a love for their craft. Every attendant came away with a quality product in the end and I hope to make it to more courses in the future. Thanks guys, much appreciated.

I attended the Introductory Woodworking Course at the school late this month via a gift voucher from my partner. The course consisted of two sessions at the school running three hours each. It covered off on workshop safety and familiarisation, wood identification, history and characteristics and also tool safety, characteristics and their correct usage. Instruction of these course components was facilitated by way of a wooden construction project which, although small, remained technically complex enough to effectively break down these components in significant detail and enabled excellent student comprehension and information retention.

The course instructor, David, is a consumate professional both as an instructor and at his craft in the workshop. His decades of industry experience effortlessly convey the subject matter to the class and information is easily absorbed. His passion for his work is equalled by his exceptional level of patience; additional information is readily available when sought and is actively encouraged to be elicited.

I highly recommend this course and the Perth Wood School to foster, maintain and grow your woodworking passion and knowledge.

Thoroughly enjoyed the Introductory Woodworking course! David is very knowledgeable and passionate with regards to woodwork and more importantly takes the time to explain and walk through the steps and safety measures when working with power tools.

David is an excellent teacher and a veritable encyclopaedia of knowledge on all things related to woodwork. I did the introductory level workshop which was highly engaging and gave us an opportunity to use a variety of machinery and techniques. And you get to keep the end product! I will definitely be back, even though some of the courses are a bit expensive, as I know the standard of instruction given here is exceptional.
