Merchant Seafood Cafe

A really good fish and chips! We always go to Peters by the Sea in Scarborough, however it was too far for us to go there today. We have seen this place while buying maccas across the road and being surprised to find a fish and chips at the back of the Clarkson, we decided to give this a go today. Not disappointed at all.
Fresh fish with very light batter and a good chips that doesn't have typical oily taste.

Tried them last night and they have certainly lived up to their well earned reputation. Fish was tasty, batter and chips were nice and crunchy. Both the owner and his son (?) were friendly with the banter light and enjoyable.
I see a few bad reviews but they are out there and worst of all, breeding.
I noticed a pizza machine being installed and cannot wait until it is fully operational. I recommend Merchant's and guarantee you will not be disapointed

Fantastic service, lovely staff who cant do enough for you. The fish and chips is to die for thin batter and thick fish. Chips are so good. You must try it out!

Great service and excellent fish and chips but then all the menu looks fantastic and Im sure tastes good too. Can recommend to everyone please try. Im sure you will not be disappointed.

The food was really good, the fish was nice and crispy and not soggy at all. I went in with my husband and 3 kids and was greeted very politely by the owner and the staff and the shop was nice and clean. Would recommend 10/10.

HOW TO MAKE A BAD FIRST IMPRESSION AND LOSE FUTURE CUSTOM

So, we thought we would not go to our usual fish and chip shop but would try Merchant Seafood Cafe in Clarkson in a bid to support local business.

We stood, patiently, and with impeccable manners, at the counter without any service only then to be told in a very curt and offhand/rude manner that they were not taking any more orders. It was 5.45.

The manner in which we were treated (the way we were spoken to) was disgusting and they will not get any of our custom forthwith. We will stay with our great usual: Banksia Grove Fish and Chips

Food was out of this world and the staff were super kind. Definitely recommend this place to all and will continue to come back for all fish and chip needs:)

We have finally tried the new fish and shop in Clarkson. Was not disappointed. We had grilled & battered fish plus chips. Delicious

Called in to place an order. Was ready on time and the staff was super friendly. The fish was delicious and not as oily as take away fish usually are. Portion sizes are generous and the packaging is great. The fresh lemon pieces and tartare sauce in the box was a nice surprise! Will definitely go back.

Absolutely the WORST customer service I have ever experienced. Waited for 1 hour with my 3 year old only to be told they couldn’t find my order and possibly was given to someone else, was told by one staff member they would remake my order and the boss said to give some money back, cashier gave entire refund and I continued to wait as I was told it was going to be remade. About 15 minutes later the boss said to the cashier didn’t you give that lady a refund, he said he did and the boss could loudly be heard to say “IM NOT MAKING IT FOR FREE”. When asked about the order he just said sorry and turned his back to me. Whilst waiting for my order customers were turned away as they were “too busy” however only had one person on cooking and had around 10 orders. Given the current climate you would expect any business to really value their customers and appreciate their business. SUGGEST TO AVOID THIS BUSINESS LIKE THE PLAGUE AND GIVE BACK TO ALL THE BUSINESSES THAT HAVE EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!

You deserve to endulge your tastebuds every single time! BTW You've got to try our famous crunchy chips everybody loves!
