Mama's & Papa's Japanese Cafe

Dined in with a friend and was sat down, no one came to take our order. Friend tried to order at the desk and was told to wait for service as 2 other tables immediately after ordered at the front desk. Horrible customer service.

Never disappointed with the food here. Always delicious and tasty! Their sizzling salmon is the best.

Incredible Japanese food! The chicken karaage bento box is the best I’ve had in Perth. The owner, Emily is so friendly and really takes pride in her cooking.

Very nice but I did not feel it was great value for money

I cant complain about the food it was lovely but i felt it was a bit light on especially the rice serving size!

The eel was absolutely lovely, the miso soup also great and the sushi was also good according to mu sister

The décor is very cute but I felt that the rice serve was too small. I have no complaints about the eel serve size it was quite generous (I know its very expensive stuff! And I don't mind paying for it!) if you had maybe doubled the rice serving size think it would have been OK! (rice is the cheapest part of the meal!)

Beautifully presented and delicious Japanese food, lovely staff in a cosy, comfortable space. Truely one of the best Japanese restaurants in a Perth.

The man at the counter - presumably the owner - was unwelcoming. He appeared to be stressed because the kitchen was backlogged with orders. When customers entered they were told there would be be an hour wait for food because there is only one chef in the kitchen.

I was sitting right across from the counter and felt uncomfortable when he was speaking to customers because of how rude he was. Frankly it was awkward and unpleasant to watch.

My partner asked to use a bottle opener and the response given was “we don’t take outside drinks” yet everyone at all but one other table had BYO drinks and several signs on the walls said BYO - corkage $2 per person.

Despite the poor customer service I thought the food must be good because it was so busy. I was wrong.

The edamame was served unseasoned, cold and it was a little slimy.

There was a stack of dirty plates with flies buzzing around sitting on top of the freezer. It was only moved so the chef could get inside the freezer.

I ordered the teriyaki tofu bento and was given beef. The man apologised for the mix up and I got my food shorty after.

Hearing a microwave in the kitchen is always concerning to me. Despite using a microwave to reheat food, my teriyaki tofu was cold in the middle.

Wouldn’t recommend.

Such a great experience! We ordered katsu chicken bentos and they were DELICIOUS! They layered the spicy mayo between the chicken so it was the perfect ratio of sauce for each bite. It also came with some tasty sides which was nice way to try something new! Staff were lovely too and the vibe outside is adorable - definitely recommend!

Good food, had the bento box was very good. Enjoyed a great quality time with my friends who I enjoy spending time with very much!

Updating my review for this place because it deserves the love! The food is amazing, it is always consistent and fresh with lots of options on the menu, also vegetarian / vegan options to choose from too. The staff are polite and kind people who make you feel very welcome. Always greeted by a home-like environment that feels Japanese, with nice decorations and photos around. 100% recommend Mamas and Papas!

Very disappointing experience, definitely will not return.

Upon arrival with our toddler, the waitress at the counter asked their chef, and told us they didn't take dine-ins despite two of the five tables indoors were seated. There was no queue either.

With the name Mama's and Papa's, we anticipated warm hospitality and family friendly environment. Our experience was the complete opposite.

Thanks for your reply to my comment. It would have been nice if we were explained your business rules while we were at your counter. Instead, we were simply told that the chef doesn't take dine-ins. It was our first visit to your restaurant, so we were unaware of this unusual no small children kind of business rule.

This restaurant is a hidden gem xx it is a family owned traditional Japanese restaurant and Yumiko cooks amazing delicious food and her and her husband are always so friendly. My favourite is the Eel Bento yum yum xxxx

Sensational flavours, fresh, high quality food, cooked by a chef. Clearly made with heart, soul and expert skill. Friendly service with a smile.
Not sure how anyone can say this place is expensive when you are getting perfectly executed food for the price it would cost you to cook it yourself and the fact that the food is made with love is an added bonus.

Really loved the ton katsu i tried today and think it is my new favourite dish! Great fresh ingredients and at a good price, i highly recommend trying. Other great dishes at mamas and papas is the chicken teriyaki and katsu chicken!

Great choice of bento box varieties, but I really wasn’t sold.

I tried very hard to be enthusiastic about this bento box as it was a special occasion, although I really couldn’t buy into it.

The lotus root was slightly overcooked and dried out, and the eel teriyaki but I was truly less than blown away.

Nothing wrong, but definitely nothing exceptional.

Highlight was the prawn gyoza, lowlight was the surcharge for BYOB

I passed this place a couple of times while driving home, I finally had a chance to come with my family as it was school holidays and wow their food amazed me! Very fresh and tasty. What a shame I just found out haha, now we’re going to be regulars

Only the best ingredients, fresh sushi and delicious udon soup! The chef is a wonderful cook, everything that she offers her customers is top quality! Very happy returning customer!

Love this place. Can’t recommend highly enough.

The Ton Katsu is to die for (pork katsu). The vegetable tempura - yum. Teriyaki salmon - yum yum. The sushi - honestly some of the best I’ve ever had. The rice perfectly moist and the balance and the contrast between the ingredients in each, spot on. I even enjoyed the vegetable sushi. I could go on.

Quite simply Mama's and Papa's is the best thing to come to Wembley since I did.

It’s a mouthgasm.
