Hillside Country Retreat

As highly reviewed by many, the owner is very accommodating and very welcoming. Toured around the area and offered help when needed. The houses we stayed were very cleaned and very homy. Stayed in Julians and Beverleys as a group. Highly recommend for a stay in York. Very near to the town area. One of the accoms I stayed with very great views of the field and surrounds.

Wow. What an amazing historical homestead. A unique property that has transitioned from farming to tourism with a variety of accommodation options. Some awsome things to wander around and look at. Certainly not just another short stay holiday option but one that is amazing.

Fantastic location, Joy was very friendly and accommodating. The detached cottage we had was nice and cool with AC units in each room. The kitchen was well appointed and allowed us to bring our food and cook here. Scenery is beautiful. Will come back again.

Thanks Joy for a lovely June long-weekend with our family of three plus two German shepherd dogs! Our self-contained accommodation had everything we needed including a cosy wood fire, well-equipped kitchen and comfortable beds. Our daughter loved exploring the extensive gardens with our dogs. It was a highlight for her spending some time with your grandkids too - please thank them again for us - such friendly kids. An easy walk into town and we were lucky that York had kids activities on that weekend. One of our favourite dog-friendly holidays! We hope to come back again soon! THANK YOU! Just checked out from Beverly Cottage, very nice and comfortable. Joy was very accommodating and Michael (I think he's the maintenance guy) was very helpful as well. Can stroll around the property, would like to stay again in the future

We stayed at the Lodge in September 2021. We absolutely LOVED IT! Cannot recommend highly enough. We are booking our next stay and will visit every year. Joy is such a beautiful soul and so welcoming. We ok forward to coming back again and again

Joy was a great host from the moment we turned up until we left. Loved our breakfast and chat in the morning nothing was too much trouble and was very attentive to details. We will most certainly be back!

Stayed for a week just after Christmas. Quite supurb country stay. Stayed in Sofia's Retreat which was fantastic for the 3 of us with 2 bedrooms and heaps of room. The owner Joy is such a lovely lady who went out of her way to help. Our 11 year old dog had a great relaxing time even sleeping with us inside. Highly recommended for couples or families. Thank you so much Joy and we will be back.

Small cozy room with built-in spa, beautiful flowers, chirping birds. Breakfast was included and made by the lovely owner herself right on the time we requested. We enjoyed our stay very much

Have stayed there twice, once in winter and once in summer. Had a beautiful experience both times. Felt completely secluded away from the other rooms which was fantastic as me and my partner brought video games so if we were loud we knew we werent going to bother anyone else. Fantastic option for a getaway for two or for the family, or even family and friends.

Well equipped and comfortable cottage. It had a cosy wood heater plus electric blankets. We enjoyed cups of tea in a beautiful rural setting while our dog could run around the secured veranda. Could hear lots of happy birds singing. Delightful property run by the loveliest owner (Joy) who is very kind and accommodating. She even gave us some fruit and milk.

Love this place. I appreciate that they welcome my dogs. This is our 2nd time here and I know we will be back again.

Beautiful grounds with lovely views from the veranda of our cottages. Very clean and comfortable. Joy was welcoming and very easy to communicate with. The cottages were only a short walk from the town centre. York is a lovely town with history and great pubs! The cottages had everything: games, books and plenty wood for the fire! There was also reversed cycle airconditioning and electric blankets on the beds as is does get cold in winter. We were with 9 adults and 7 teenagers and the kids enjoyed the pool and dart games room and exploring the property. We had an amazing and relaxing time.

Very enjoyable experience. Accommodation, breakfast and host Joy outstanding. Would highly recommend a stay here, you won't be disappointed.

Joy, the owner, was absolutely wonderful. My partner and I stayed here the night of our wedding and the night after as well. It was just what we needed. Private, close to town, cosy and relaxing! The breakfast Joy made us herself in the tea house in the morning was absolutely wonderful and so personable. Joy was lovely enough to hand dwliver us some chocolates, champagne and a hand written card to congratulate us on our wedding!

A two night break spent in The Stables studio was perfect. Such a pretty studio (immaculately clean) with everything you could need as well as a lovely courtyard for my two doggos. Peaceful surrounds & a yummy breakfast whipped up by the lovely owner Joy. A perfect escape from the City.

This was our second stay at Hillside Country Retreat, York and we could not recommend it highly enough! The ensuite room had everything we needed, as well as being cosy and inviting. Our little dog, Molly, loved pottering about with lots to sniff and investigate. Delightful owner, Joy, cooked us scummy country breakfasts, which we enjoyed in a little garden observatory. A welcomed getaway!

Although I personally haven’t stayed at Hillside, one of my best friends did with her partner and dog, and they all loved it.

The reason for this review is to promote the owner of this residence for something lovely she did for me.

I called from the other side of the country asking if there was anywhere locally that would be able to deliver a bottle of champagne to my friends staying with her as it was a special time for them and they had just done something on my behalf that I was very grateful for. Upon hearing this, the owner immediately offered her assistance and genuinely wanted to help me. She went down to the bottle shop, bought the champagne and waited until my friends returned that evening to personally give it to them. I was so overwhelmed by the kindness and willingness to help I just had to write a review.

In summary, if you want somewhere lovely to stay, with an owner who genuinely cares about her customers’ experience and is willing to help with just about anything, look no further than Hillside York!

Quaint York homestead with sufficient facilities. Air-conditioning in each room. Very nice owners.
