Yesterday I visited this place for the first time and I was amazed at how good it was
Fruit and veggies are so nice and tasty and of a good quality
Rose at the counter was such a lovely lady and very helpful definitely made me want to come back
This is my new favourite place to get my fruit and vegetables without being worried if it will be rotten or taste bad
Thank you GFM

Christmas update: More tricks for profit.

Paid $10 for chunk of watermelon, only to see the whole watermelons, which I was looking for instore, to be placed outside of the store. Not something people might notice rushing on the way in, but I could have got three times the value simply by buying a whole watermelon. I understand space is at a premium, but separating out products like this seems very much like another manipulation, and I have seen more than just this at this place.

And again I ask, where are the organics?

I will support progressive stores, but it's always business as usual here with no real innovation. Will only shop here for the basic minimals until management gets with the program.

****

The shine has worn off for me.

I no longer eat meat with nitrates so I cannot comment on the cold meat section anymore.

I have tried some of the take home and hot foods but found them almost universally quite bland to my tastes.

Great cheese fridge though.

Very good selection of fresh fruit and veg but no discernible organic produce.

I must say I think this shop uses tricks on their fruit and veg pricing. I don't care If it costs me three bucks to get three zucchini for example. I want to know the price per kilogram!

For some fresh produce they do not show the price per kilogram, which makes me wonder.so I did a bit of math and some of the prices are inflated compared to what others are selling for in the area that do provide their price per kilogram.

I hope management take notice that customers are canny, and can see through these profit-grabbing tactics.

Also, most prices for packaged goods are rather high with significantly better value to be found elsewhere.

If I'm spending this much I'm going to Peaches!

Super fresh and great varietal, but the prices are extravagant. I would do ALL of my fresh shopping here but the prices are over the top. The WA competitor with potatoes in it's name is the only way to go unless you find something here you REALLY like. For me it's the smaller Kanzi apples, can't get fresher! It's also the only place I can find Kefir so I still look forward to trips here.

Update March 2022.

I still think this is a pretty good place, with a great selection of fresh fruits and vegetables and a very good delicatessen selection.

Unfortunately, the smallgoods on offer, especially the so-called Italian sausages are below standard.

They seem to insist on pumping their sausages so full of water that they don't so much fry as boil in the pan.

I have noticed this several times, but just this week I gave the benefit of doubt and trying to get in with their pork and fennel sausages.

Bland. Bland. Bland. Wet. Wet. Wet.

And not a hint of fennel!

I contacted them several months ago asking why they would in good conscience supply products so full of water that they become bland and unappetising upon cooking. No response was received.

I understand that butchers inject water into their products in order to cheat consumers to a certain extent. But the water content of their sausages is beyond the pale, and appears to be well above the industry standard.

Do yourself a favour and avoid them, and head over to Scarvaci IGA or Princi butchers. You will find far superior sausages, probably because they are made by real Italians who won't make miniature swimming pools out of their sausages.

As management of Gilbert's did not answer my concerns privately, I am putting this out here for the public. Gilberts are more than welcome to respond with their explanation as to why their sausages are so full of water right here in this public forum.

Let's see, shall we?

I'm downgrading my original 5 star to 3 star. I don't like being ripped off, and paying for water when I should be paying for meat!

I used to like this place a lot, however in recent times, you can hardly get served on the cold meats section, and the staff on that area seem untrained, the apple strudels used to be a favourite of mine, however, now they’re tasteless due to lack of quality ingredients (ie butter in the pastry, filling etc) and normally a few days old which also doesn’t help.

I really do hope things improve as 12 months ago I’d have happily given 5 stars.

I would note staff are always helpful and friendly on the tills.

Good produce but the staff must only get paid until closing time because the fruit and veg start being put away an hour before closing.

Wonderful. It was cheaper than I thought. Meat looked fresh as did the fruit. Was interesting watching the ice cream being made n the premises.
Highly recommend
