I had some unexpected issues with some bookings and Mel had the patience and the dedication to go through everything and provide a solution. Excellent service and better person!

Enjoyed my stay here, loved staying in a PRISON! Lots of information on the walls about different prisoners and life here - building retains many features/architecture of being a prison (but being a comfortable hostel). Stayed in a 4 bed dorm, fairly small and next to the courtyard but no noise after 10pm. Beds were fine. Rooms have a medium size locker in them (probably couldn't fit most luggage). There were a few common areas, both inside and outside, and a decently big kitchen, plus lots of fridge/cupboard space for food storage. The have a luggage shed and reception hours are 9am-9pm. Found staff to be friendly and helpful. They can give you a towel if you like. Showers were clean and fine (cold tap could be sensitive). Convenient location for Fremantle and apparently the prison tours are great, but I was only there for a short period of time.

Great opportunity to stay at this venue. The streaming is a heritage site & highly recommended for visiting. Especially night visit & underground tunnels

We really enjoyed staying here, we had double room with bunk beds and double bed, tv, aircon plus own bathroom with shower and toilet.

This hotel was originally used as a prison and has been converted into a hotel!
In fact, while retaining the vestiges of those days, it also had the convenience of a modern hotel, so I had a comfortable stay!
We had a lot of fun playing Mario Party and Mario Kart together at night!

The place is not bad, but I am sorry about the bad review because some of the staff need to do their hospitality course again to remember how they should speak with their guests!

What a quirky, interesting, cool place to stay. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. Was peaceful and my room was super warm with the heater on. My experience at a few hostels has been let down back lack of warmth, but I guarantee the heating in the rooms works. Showers get super hot and kitchen has lots of room and cooking space. There's no cooker but all appliances make cooking possible with gas Hobbs, microwaves and toasty maker, also a coffee machine too. Enjoy your stay! You'll not forget it!

Fremantle prison tour is worth doing. Plenty of tours on offer. Plenty to see and be amazed about how prisoners were treated in the past and now.

Solid stay. Walking distance to Fremantle central and the markets. Only issues would be the slight lack of amenities (only 4 toilets and 3 showers for the whole hostel)

No complaints except it's hard for someone like me for had a huge suitcase to get up the ramps leading up to the accommodation. The facilities are great (hot showers throughout, better than the B & Bs I tried in Freo and Perth), well organised kitchen. People were constantly smoking in the front courtyard though.

Went with the kids and family and was very interesting and informative. But spooky too. Not quite done the night tour or the tunnel tour but will definitely have to go without the kids!

Only looked at the free exhibitions, but was great to see a museum provide something like that without charging. Will have to return for a proper guided tour at some point.

We were given a private tour which was a great experience. The guide had a wealth of knowledge and stories to paint a picture of the changes over time. A few real surprises along the way.

Great place to stay especially if your doing the night tour at the prison. Clean good atmosphere was fun staying in a cell different experience. Close to the markets and Cafe strip, pubs etc recommend a look history galore.

WORST HOSTEL EVER and WORST MANAGER EVER (Mel). The place its clearly understaff so its dirty everywhere. For instance in 10 days they only changed the bin of the room only once, somedays they dont even clean the bathrooms. This would be a little bit more bearable if the staff weren't treating us in the horrible way they are. Today at 4PM when I asked if my room was ready cause I had to move room, Mel told me that she couldnt even tell me an estimated hour of check in. I told her my opinion about its not their fault they are understaff but its not the guests etiher. Her reply was that they aren't interested in backcpackers only in school groups and that I shoulnt be whining, literally. All of this with a terrible tone. It was the rudest experience I've ever had as a guest. Why YHA Fremantle its keep accepting travellers if they are gonna treat the way they are treating us? HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Sadly if I leave today my other 2 friends will have to pay a room that is really expensive and there is no other room.
I'm feeling completely DISCRIMINATED.

Unbelievable, The employees are the worst.they have very bad treatment towards customers, they never solve in time. The kitchen is totally dirty, the bathrooms disgusting and they defined removing all the things from the kitchen as "Punishment" since some guests left dirty things and did not want to clean them. I had to eat with a spoon.
Totally incomprehensible
