D Big Mama reviews
56Best har mee that I have had in Perth. Hokkien mee is also excellent. I will be coming back.
I had a Laksa which tasted good but some of the parts were not as hot as the other Laksa parts. But the taste was great. Also had a juice which was good. Service was fast.
Disappointed with the Big mama special. Serving was small and the taste was average for the price. The Hainanese chicken and rice were yum though. Not sure if I want to go back.
I am Singaporean and on my most recent trip to Perth, I tried their noodles and rice. They tasted just as great like I never left Singapore at all and just brought it from a hawker centre back home.
We went for a weekday lunch with our friends who moved here from South Africa and who have a fondness for Asian tucker.
We were last here for mee siam, mee rebus and satay but that stall was on a break for Hari Raya.
We had passed D Big Mama and the huge menu board, with pictures, looked interesting.
I opted for the bak kut teh (pork rib tea/soup). This is a medicinal soup and is the real thing here. It's as good as any I have had in Singapore or Malaysia. It came with rice and yutiao and a lovely dark soy sauce with cut chilli. Full marks for the taste and serving size. The others had the nasi lemak with crispy chicken. It came with half a hard boiled egg, cucumber, deep fried anchovies, fried peanuts, and a tasty chilli sambal.
The rice cooked in coconut milk was nicely flavoured, the chicken was crispy and moist and not oily. Everything about this dish was good.
Service was fast, friendly and efficient. Credit cards are accepted.
Coventry Market can be crowded but you can usually find free parking nearby. Weekends tend to be crowded.
Since I moved to north, D'Big Mama has been my favourite place to have great meals. Reasonably priced, service is always good and I LOVE3x their curry laksa! I always tell myself to try other dishes, but so far, I haven't been able to cos the laksa is always calling me LOL My other favourite is nasi lemak with curry chicken and prawn noodles.
Had the Big Mama Special. Not impressed. Price wise quite expensive for this type of noodle dish. At $14.50 a pop you could find better for much less. Taste wise lacking, noodle flavourless and quite wet for what is meant to be a dry noodle. Likely due to not straining noodle properly prior to serving.
We had Nasi lemak & Laksa. Nasi Lemak was small portion
Food did not meet our expectation.
The food was nice but the portion was rather small. As you can see from the photo, the nasi lemak I ordered had only 3 small pcs of chicken, the rest is potatoes + dried fish + half an egg.
Our second time here. Line has always been long at this place. I love their Bakuteh. It's one of my comfort food and they made it well. Other dish we ordered was the pork noodle soup and I finished the meal with their ice kachang. The pork noodle was on the sweet side while their ice kachang was just average for $8.50 price.
Had bak kut teh and special noodle, both were pretty good. Not too bad for a casual meal after shopping in the market. Service was below average. They serve food in take away containers even when dining in which was a bit weird
After an agonising wait of 1.5hrs for the staff to take our order and serve our food at Chef Knowell’s, we decided to head here for lunch instead. Service was friendly and prompt and menu is reasonably priced, got our food in 10 mins or so upon placing our order.
The s/o was satisfied with his Prawn Noodle, I had a few spoonfuls of the soup which I also found quite delicious! But I was rather smitten with the Dry BBQ Pork Noodle and wonton soup, I thoroughly enjoyed it! Will be back to try other items in their menu for sure
Been several times and recommend the Nasi Lemak always had nice one from here. Prices have gone up over time sort of to be expected. So now not the cheap takeaway it once was. But what is these days!
It appears that menu has changed and food quality has gone down lately. A little bit disappointing as this used to be our family's favourite!
Slow service. It wasn't busy waited 15min for a cup of tea when back to the counter and asked what happened to my tea, I think they forgot about it.they made it for me took less than 30 seconds.
They've lost their touch. Used to be great but prices increase and quality has dropped. Will go back to more consistent uncle lams
Overprice and Less portion noodle, hard crispy chicken, ordered d big mama special noodles, asked staff and responded chef changed recipe and noodle doesn't comes with black sauce.
Love the food here. Very consistent and reasonably priced for authentic malaysian food. Always satisfied. Their noodles are especially good and they make the noodles in the store.
Yesterday i had ordered the hainanese chicken rice and asked for an extra clear soup when it arrived i starting eating my chicken rice which is always good. I then after about 10 mins went to sip my clear soup and it was so hot that it burnt my mouth and has blistered my lips leaving me not able to finish my food. It is now one day later and im in even more pain even to the point that i can not eat solids or anything warm im very frustrated and angry this because when i approached D Big Mama staff they did not show any concern no food should ever be served this hot as it is extremely dangerous if a small child had accidentally tipped this soup it would have surely given them a horrific burn please take care when serving hot soup
Food is OK but when literally only one table is taken by a couple of people waiting over 30mins for a chicken rice is beyond ridiculous.
