Caltex Overlander Roadhouse reviews
58 Large camping area behind the Overlander Roadhouse in Hamelin Pool, WA. Must be self-contained.
Time and Cost: No apparent time limit, Free.
Access: Sealed access from the main highway. Dirt base in the camping area.
Facilities: Flat, hard dirt camp sites with no shade. Flushing toilets/showers ($5) and bins. Good Telstra but no Optus or TV reception.
Ambiance: Close to highway so some road noise, quieter at night.
Suited as an overnight stopover for self-contained vehicles only. Camping area can get a little sloppy after rain.
Absolutely amazing, the fresh lunch items sold here are delicious. If you are passing by you have to try their homemade sausage rolls, as well as the freshly made range of sandwiches, wraps and rolls. Staff were lovely. 10/10
Its not a bad oasis in the middle of the dessert. Friendly service, a good range of food, air con and gas. Expensive but as you should expect. It's not the sort of area you would want to stay in but it does the job.
My trailer tyre went bust not far from the outlander Roadhouse. And they've got the tools I needed. Thank goodness.
They've also got a good selection of sandwiches, pies, sausage, salad. Lots of drink options. And some tables and chairs to sit.
Fantastic homemade sausage rolls! Pepper steak pie was also very good. Fresh fries were made upon request and they were also great! It is slightly expensive but that’s what you get for the location. Facilities were some of the best for a small town roadhouse. Definitely worth a pitstop!
4th Jan 2020.
We stayed here on way back to Perth. Restuarant very clean, but main meal was disgusting. The female attendant was in a filthy black top with old and new food all over it. Looked terrible and turned us off eating anyting there. She also had a hard time understanding english. This was an excellent roadhouse before the new owners. Accomodation looked ok but husband woke up with bites all over his legs and arms, and would say bed bugs. Won't drop by again.one star out of all.
These amazing people at the overlander took me and my two kids in for 8 hours and made sure we were safe when we had broken down on the highway. They were so accommodating and really helped us get through so we could get home safely. Couldn't speak more highly of them and will forever be grateful for their generosity
Cleanest toilets I have ever come across. What a welcome, cool and friendly rest stop after hours of hot outback nothingness
Have to admit it is a lovely stop when travelling so far but the location is perfect to have a great roadhouse I love outback roadhouses as much as next guy but this place could definitely use some love and work just to spruce it up and get it up to scratch!
Does have lovely food and lots of room for vehicle maintenance and so forth, lovely people willing to help!
Ive use the O'lander a few times
Food is ok but obviously very pricey, nearly $20 for a hamburger which is expensive
If you are coming from Perth, stop at the Billabong road house further down the road.fuel is usually 10c a ltr cheaper
food is much cheaper, fresher and a huge variety of fried and fresh healthy options. Lots of seating and a/c also
I dont bother stopping at the overlander anymore
i have no vested interest in either, just a traveler who looks for value
Fantastic Breakfast Friendly staff
Very clean restaurant and toilets. Definitely stop there. Five stars
Accomodation was noisy and grubby and a smelly bore water pump at the back of the accommodation, food was just ok, fuel expensive.
There are new owners here as of a few months ago. Lovely people and the attitude / service is a million times better than the previous owners.
Accommodation is clean and comfortable and has all you need. Roadhouse is well stocked.
Older style dongas and looks like the owners are upgrading.
Also excellent breakfast
I read a lot of poor reviews and I think those reviewers need to wake up. I've traveled over 5000ks this trip and really can't fault the place!
Staff pretty much ignore you/are hidden out the back area, most likely as they are used to people stopping by for refreshment/snacks and having a look at the options then deciding not to buy anything as the prices were really over the top.
Would only suggest to stop here for the toilets, which were air-conditioned, do not bother for any other reason.
Also I thought the toilets at first were disgusting but the colour of the water is due to it being bore water.
Ok if you need to stop. Toilets work, fuel, food and a small variety of drinks.when we went through, was nothing to special and the flys were pretty bad, but thats possibly due to the area
Unfortunately this bad review is all due to one staff member. Based on a August 2017 visit. I assume she is the manager/owner due to the way other staff members cower down to her. She is rude to customers, has a permanent scowl on her face and doesn't mind making people wait in ques of up to 10 while she scolds her subordinates and makes the whole atmosphere uncomfortable.
They make nice sausage rolls though- but get in and out quick before she ruins you day. Or Billabong roadhouse is 30 mins away- do your mood a favour and drive straight past the overlander unless you're running on fumes.
Clean and Tidy. Bathrooms are clean. Staff can be a little 'rushed' but when you are sitting in the middle of nowhere in 45 degree plus weather - who can blame them.
