The ABS Institute have provided much needed guidance and support during my journey of starting my own small business. Their mentoring through the NEIS program is fantastic and they work hard to provide great workshop opportunities to benefit their clients' continual learning.

In 2018 I was made redundant from my full time job. It was a daunting time but after much thought I decided that I would start my own business. I knew that it was going to take time to build it to a level where I could pay myself but I also knew that I needed to treat the set up as a full time job, hence the prospect of supporting myself at the same time was quite daunting.

That is when I heard about the NEIS scheme. The New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS) is a self-employment program backed by the Federal Government to help eligible Western Australians establish and run their own businesses. It is available to anyone with a viable business idea. It helps participants to start a business with training, mentoring support for 12 months and income support for 9 months.

I have been lucky enough to have my training, mentoring and support delivered by the ABS institute. The institute has guided me step by step through every stage of setting up my business and continues to provide monthly support that helps me keep my business goals on track. The ABS helps me to stay accountable to my own goals and to make new ones along the way.

The mentoring from Fiona Burton has been great in steering me in the right direction on what I need to do to over come a few barriers that I have from my past and now things are progressing well.

Great new business success rate. The average business fail rate is around 33% and NEIS has a 70-80% SUCCESS rate. Would that mean if your not doing a NEIS course, your success rate could be approximately 10%. I think you know what to do.
