Wynyard / JAMES reviews
76 Oh my gosh. I mean, the wine is great, but of course it is. It's a wine bar. But the food! Amazing! Pork doughnuts with black apple jam was absolutely incredible.
Good prices. Nice service. Will be back again and again and again
I love this place! A modern and stylish interior provides the perfect venue for a lovely wine selection. The innovative food is extremely tasty and of very high quality. The expert service is friendly providing great recommendations for the food and wine.
It a was great time at James with lovely company! And yes! All dishes were high standard and delicious ~
Our table of 8 had the set menu, and were totally blown away. We weren't expecting food this good, and the cocktails and wine were almost as good. Very reasonably priced to, and perfect walking distance to the Malthouse theatre. Highly recommended. Oh yeah, the service and ambience was also bang on.
Incredibly delicious and inventive brunch menu. The pork donut with black apple jam is a highlight. Good coffee too
We were just stopping by the door and the pretty friendly came out and greeted us and we came in to have this super good dinner!
It's like fine dining but very much affordable. I would recommend the truffle fries and pipi ramen.
BTW we mentioned the ramen was a bit too salty and the chef remade one for us. Great service! Will come back for other dishes
In a “too cool for school” cafe in Sth Melbourne (James)
Given a ridiculously large serrated knife to butter my toast.
Think I’ll be ok if the toast tries to do a runner.
Indifferent staff dispensing miserly portioned butter and creamed honey for the potentially runaway toast.
If you’re looking for large useless cutlery, passively aggressive service and minimal food this is the place for you. Don’t go in your walking gear I suspect but can’t confirm the service I received was based on this. Nice coffee
This place is fricken creative! Always changing up the menu and never dull with it’s japanese influence.
But even with its experimental options, it still makes the best folded eggs in melbourne.
Delicious coffee, you know the sort that touches your soul and makes your day! Chilli folded eggs with the 12 hour tomatoes were amazing. Going back to try all items from their menu one by one
Amazing service, super friendly staff! The food was very good as well- such a little gem in South Melbourne!
Japanese-inspired modern Australian cuisine would probably best describe this - we started off w piping hot potato bread with nori butter, potato cake Mille feuille style w cheese and black garlic sauce, mushroom and edamame w cannellini cream
We then got the ramen w pipi and seaweed dust which was surprisingly slightly spicy and a beef rib which was beautifully cooked.
The fries are not to be missed. Served w truffle oil and came out freshly fried. Oh how I missed my fries freshly fried during COVID! Honestly the best fries I have tasted in the last year!
The basque cheesecake was solid but not amazing, w an interesting red wine sauce cream thing which didn’t taste like red wine but it tasted quite nice.
Good coffee but be prepared to wait a while - the staff appear to be more interested in chatting with their friends than working (and should of them any arrive after you, add another 5 minutes to your wait so they can serve them first!).
We stumbled across James for a Friday night wine and were absolutely blown away. The service was incredible and the food delicious. We'd go back in a heartbeat!
Their chai latte is my top 3 favourite. The chicken katsu was so good and crispy. The lady that served us was very friendly and polite to us. Would totally recommend this place to anyone!
Such a cute place. Great services. Not keen so much for the food but I would definitely come back for the drinks and the cheese:) Such a shame they wouldn't serve coffees after 4.30 pm.with our dinner.the dashi broth soup was amazing!
Had dinner here and was quite delicious. The menu is balanced. Bao was delectable, all our mains were yum and the cheese plate to finish was plentiful in many ways.
Waited an hour to get the breakfast burger and fruit bowl, had to get it to take away and I was still charged the full price. Poor management in my opinion.
Waited an hour for one slice of bread, 10 slices of mushroom and one egg. Staff were patronising and rude after 50 minutes asking where my food was. Did not apologise once. Absolutely appalling
Waited 40+minutes for 2 breakfasts and after asking a third time where our food was cancelled our order! 5 on floor and 2 in the kitchen. Maybe staff efficiency review in order.
Super friendly staff. Even though it was crowded they didn’t mind squeezing me in. Great place to grab a coffee and work for an hour. Has WiFi.
Came for coffee and there was only one staff on felt a bit sorry so just ordered a snack she seem.a bit under the pump for coffee.
