Viet Star Restaurant reviews
58 When you want to have dinner in Glenferrie rd, it can be hard to decide, with so many options
When I passed by Viet Star it looked I noticed it was popular, being almost full even though not being a big name or looking super fancy, and even though having quite many seats inside, and even some outside
My experience told me that this would be a good choice. And I can now confirm it!
There are lots and lots of food options: soups, chicken, duck, pork, beef, seafood, prawn, squid, scallops, fish, rice, noodles. With all sorts of varieties
Perfect for people who have an idea of what they want
Now if you prefer to be guided, there are also the chef's suggestions
Which is what I went with, getting a barramundi (fish) with green apple salad. If you're sensitive to spiciness, you may want to mention it. In any case, you'll enjoy it (it was actually really good I would say)
I got some steamed rice to go with it
I also had prawn sugar cane as a starter
They have lots of wine, beer, and non alcoholic drinks. I went for a fresh coconut juice, that came along some coconut meat even, loved it
And a banana fritter with ice cream as a dessert
The whole meal was great
The atmosphere is laid-back
Location is great
It's an authentic Vietnamese restaurant
And the staff is efficient, special mention to Ben with whom I had a chat (good memories from my 1 month in his native country)
Recommended!
The food is good and very tasty.
But many times visited this place some of Asian’s females customers always noisy and they talking super loud. I don’t understand why they talking and laughing so hard 1/2 screaming. I hope next time the owner warning them that other people paying too not only them. Better take away than dine inside.
Place buzzing with lots of Swinburne university students - prices are reasonable and my dining partners were happy. I ordered the Hainanese chicken - found the chicken overcooked - i.e. Dry instead of being tender. I guess this is unfair asking a Vietnamese place to compare with the Malaysian/Singaporean version though.
Terrific Vietnamese restaurant which I have been going to for years. Very well priced and generous serves. Favourite dish: Sizzling Duck with prawns. Friendly service by all staff. A must!
Great food and cheap prices.
Their menu options are very extensive, so there's something for everyone.
Great for dining in alone, or in large groups.
The service is fast, and the food arrives very quickly too.
TLDR: great service, food not particularly good or bad, clean
Full review: came here with extended family for Father's Day dinner. They proactively offered and setup a booster seat for my toddler. A few family members were running late and they were happy to take the order first but to hold off on cooking until the family members were 5 minutes away so that the food would arrive fresh and hot. That was really nice of them to offer.
Of what we ordered, I'd particularly recommend salt & chilli quail and the fried flounder. Both were really well-seasoned and crunchy on the outside whilst moist on the inside. We also had a ginger tofu/prawn & veggies clay pot, black bean tofu & veggies, and some Chinese broccoli in garlic sauce. Although the dishes were not the absolute best I've ever had, I'd say they were pretty good compared to the average restaurant
No photos as I was too busy feeding a hangry toddler
Viet star is an authentic Vietnamese restaurant. Absolutely love the rice vermicelli dishes full of flavour and the salty squid is delicious. This was my first visit and can’t wait to come back
Beautiful pho soup noodles. Prompt service. Soup was a little salty for me but everything else was all good.
Food is amazing. Food is sensational. The service is quick but the old Asian boss is rude and does not talk to customers.
The beef pho has a clean and light broth. Friendly staff and food arrived quickly. Would happily come back and try the other dishes.
Staff attitude was bad.
Food is average but close to my home.
Maybe because we came on Friday so it was fairly busy so was pretty hard to get sauces and additional drinks
Made us feel incredibly rushed. Said they shut at 9.30pm, but Google says 10pm. They let us sit down, then told us to order fast, then cleaned around us bashing chairs and cutlery which felt like they were letting us know they wanted us to hurry up and leave. If you are closing and don’t have time to allow customers to finish their food, don’t let them in in the first place. Appalling service. We even brought it up at the end and they said they didn’t do anything and made us feel like it was our fault. They shouldn’t let people in if they are going to make them feel completely unwelcome and rushed. I have indigestion from eating so fast because I felt so uncomfortable. Decent food but bad service. Won’t go here again.
Hygiene ️️️
Staff was picking his nose in the middle of dining area in front of the customers and come to serve our dish’s minutes after
The dishes was good but I couldn’t eat it!
Always a great place to enjoy great Vietnamese food, Great staff and service. Recommended to all.
I usually go for lunch here. Menu is good. Good restaurant for casual quick dinner as well. Price is good. As usual this vietnamese restaurant waiters will be asking you how many you are to get you a table. Which I don't see as welcoming attitude.
Poor customer service, ginger fish fillet, sizzling beef and eggnoodles with seafood all tasted v bland, duck meat in san Choi bao tasted a bit old or maybe reheated a few times, food weren’t as good as what we expected from dining exp from any other viet food restaurants tho the price range are quite comparable, Have a try here but I am quite sure you probs won’t come back even here again: (
We go here with the family on a regular basis. Could not ask for a more relaxed family-friendly environment with affordable food that just warms the soul. The prawn toast, a hidden gem! Incredible crispy chicken ribs! Massive crowd pleaser. You gotta be crazy to not wanna try these chicken ribs!
One of my favorite lunch place. Even we move the office from Hawthorn to Camberwell. We still regularly back for lunch.
