Victoria Police Museum reviews
28Awesome to actually see the police history, and surprised to see the car used in bombing and the red gum offcut that the bomb was attached to. My only concern is your missing 1 police member shot whilst attempting to arrest a individual involved. Sgt mark whiley should be added as he took his own life suffering from being shot in the progress of the investigation. Ironic how lawyer x and gangland war wasn't there but my autistic 16 yr old boy and myself thoroughly enjoyed it. Nice end after attending the actual police station where the bombing occurred.
I recommend that you go visit this museum, it has very important information to know history in Victoria Melbourne and the staff is very friendly and cheap souvenirs and then take your tours, you will not regret it. Excellent museum
Was looking forward to seeing the museum only to turn up and find it closed. Not reopening until 2021 and at another location. No warning no advertising nothing. Very disappointed
Came to get fingerprinting done for work visa purposes. Came across this. Good insight on the history if you're Victorian. Interesting if you have 30 - 60 mins to spare and you're in the area. In saying that they may be able to help if more information is needed for research purposes.
Excellent museum, one posting said it was not easy to find, I totally agree even though I had previously visited the museum. Great news the museum is moving next year to a more visible site on Spencer Street.
The museum contains history of Victoria Police. Accesible by free Tram. Entrance is by donation of 1 gold coin. In Australia, those are AUD 1 and AUD 2 gold coins. My favourite will be the write up on aboriginal police force on mounted horse. If you have children, they can dress themselves up in police uniform both current and historic uniforms for a photo session.
Good collection but can be better with more artefacts. Guide service once a week or fortnightly would be good. I know its not commercial but just a memorabilia kind of a thing. But a paid guided tour once a month will be very beneficial for the public.
A nice little museum that tells a story about Victoria's history of criminals. Collections are well maintained and descriptions are informative. They also have a souvenir shop. Free entry, but there's a donation box at the front. Located in the headquarters of Victoria Police.
A very interesting place to visit. It’s great about the women’s exhibitions in the police team for years. I can learn some very interesting old cases and find that the previous people are shorter!
I wanted to help clarify the precise location of the police museum because it's actual location can be confusing and there's no street signs in the vicinity to guide you.
The Victoria Police Museum's official address is 637 Flinders Street. This address is also home to the Victoria Police Centre. However, the actual police MUSEUM is not located in the front building at the 637 Flinders St entrance.
The VP Museum is located in the complex behind, which is known as the World Trade Centre, whose entrance and official address is 18-38 Siddeley Street. Siddeley Street is a bit like a service road that runs parallel to Flinders Street. It can be accessed by turning left or right off Flinders Street, or even left off Spencer St. For parking, there's only a couple of metered short term car spaces on the street itself but there are two large carparks situated there also but at premium rates. As for the museum itself, it's only open weekdays but if you're able to go, not only is it free, its definitely worth the effort.
More suited for children 10+. Provides a brief overview of the history of policing in Victoria.
Wonderfully informatve. Nice wee place of interesting facts. Could have spent quite some time reading all the info
We visited the police museum to see ned Kelly's helmet. And we weren't disappointed, only needed to give a gold coin donation for entry and there was plenty of cool. Things to see.
Nice little museum featuring a good few displays of policing history ranging from the 1800s-present day in Australia, specifically Victoria.
Recommend a visit to anyone who is interested in policing and the history involved whether a student or just a general member of the public.
Has a little gift shop with a little area for anyone coming with kids to try on some costumes or have some mugshots taken.
Depending on how fast you read, how much you want you read and how much time you want to inspect the displays for, you can expect to take 30 minutes to 3 hrs.
Interesting small collection of exhibits. Some of the text plaques were difficult to read due to the placement with glare on the glass cabinets. There were also some hand written journal entries that I struggled to read which would benefit from being transcribed.
Go in the red building and the museum is at the top of the escalator.
Ok so my daughter sees an add for this place and asks to go, sure! School holidays, why not? I do a bit of research on the place, looks pretty cool, figure out a day to head out there and set out. First thing, it's a little hidden. Took us a sec to find it and to be honest needed the help of the concierge in the building foyer to find it. Next, you look at all the cool stuff and exhibits they have on the website and you'd be forgiven for thinking it was slightly larger than it was, I swear my house is bigger and my house isn't big. But for all that this place is incredibly fascinating! Like it might be a bit on the small side but it's sure not empty! Checking out all the old uniforms and case files and stuff was really interesting and the exploded car in the middle is really cool, I mean as an exhibit, I'm pretty sure watching it happen was actually terrifying. But yeah, all in all we enjoyed it. I will say if you're going to go there plan a second after activity too, maybe pair it up with the aquarium or something down the road because it's not an all day thing. Anyhow, say hi to Eric for me!
A great collection of Victorian Police history. I personally spent 2.5 hours walking through and enjoying each item that has been selected. I would highly recommend to anyone interested in how the police force was shaped in its early years and the heroic actions of those that have previously served the county when in blue.
Well done museum, especially the section on women in the police force. Good exhibits that told a story and were engaging, as well as informative.
Souvenir Store was odd as that have items in the store that may only be purchased by law enforcement officers, which was disappointing, once I realized. Also wished they had a replica of the 'pint' glass that showed drink conversions. I would have purchased several of those. Free, with ' gold coin' donation suggested. Totally worth it.
I always like the Victoria police force. Was interesting to see the history and how it started.
Very good museum. Great admin staff. 5/5! Must see tourist destination. It rivals the seafarers museum next door. Check them both out!
