Universal Restaurant reviews
62Used to be my usual joint, the quality is not the same as before. The last two times I went there was hair in my food, very dissapointing as I was a regular customer here. Soggy parma as well. Rude waitress staff. Used to be worth the wait but not anymore.
Massive portions and a little too much cheese for my taste ;).
Came here for a quick dinner and were really surprised when we saw the sizes of the meals. Will be coming back for sure to try a pizza and pasta dishes next time.
Had the biggest parma and risotto I've ever seen/had in my life and couldn't finish it.
They also offered interesting cocktails and delicious looking shakes!
Take away options available.
Staff was somewhat attentive and kind.
$14 schnitzel is best deal in Melbourne. Easily feeds two people. Kids meals is also great value.
Outstanding Quality+Presentation of the food one orders and Really Great Friendly Staff to look after you. Highly Recommend the Parmas or Chicken Schnitzels for Brilliant Value!
The food is authentic italian, we had a blast sitting outside with the local students. Both food and beer were great, service was excellent
Most of the food and drink was good. The margarita was rather poor. The bruchetta was hot which I didn't like but that's upto your tastes.
Ate here on Saturday night and I thought the meal was tasty and a great value for the price. However, the evening was tainted by the service we received at the very end. My friend and I stopped in for a late meal after a show nearby. We thought it was too late for a proper sit down restaurant but since this one still looked pretty packed and the opening hours on the door stated “11am- until late” we decided to ask if the kitchen was still open. It was about 11: 10 and the waitress said it closed at 11: 30. We quickly sat down and ordered immediately aware of the time and not wanting to be those obnoxious customers that come in minutes before closing. Fast forward a bit and the restaurant starts to clear out. My friend goes inside to pay just as the last customers are leaving and then comes back to finish his wine. We’re both drinking quickly as the waitress has just told us they're closing in 5 minutes. I finish mine and she immediately takes my glass but my friend is still finishing his. As she walks back through the doors to the main restaurant she very audibly says “f*cker” in what felt to be a clear reference to my friend delaying their closing. I get it, I’ve worked in hospitality, and it sucks to be waiting on the last people to leave. But I also know that’s just how it goes sometimes and part of customer service is learning to hold your tongue in moments of frustration. I don’t care what you say behind closed doors but for the sake of common courtesy and professionalism the wait staff should at least wait until the customer is out of earshot. Giving 4 stars because the food was good and I’m hoping the waitress was just having a bad night.
Good place for a cheap feed. The schnitzel is large with a crunchy crumb making for an affordable dinner. Nearly always busy around dinner time.
About 8 weeks ago on that day the only meal I did eat was a chicken snitz and that night was throwing up which thought it was food poisoning, in actual fact it was a parasite which was tested later. This is due to poor hygiene in preparing food. I did not eat anything else that day so it couldn't have been from another meal. I'm still not 100% recovered. Never going there again!
Food is average but the portions are massive for the price.we eat here quite often for fast service. Avoid the patio in the spring because a lot of pollen falls from the trees and gets into your drinks and food. Service is friendly and average, not much to write home about.
Cheap food, Parma for $14 all day everyday is a great price for food, mushroom sauce is okay and contemplates the Parma well
I like it so much, delicious food, warm and thoughtful service, I have been there many times, I will go next time!
服务好,食物好吃还不贵,西餐我最爱这家店,感谢热情又美丽的服务生们!
Great food but waitress have a strict seating policy.but as l was about to walk out.questioned her about risking losing 2 customers and she let a sit were we wanted. Last Wednesday 4.30pm
The restaurant is good. The dishes are very good. But the staff is terrible. I request just water for three waiters and they are talking themselves and avoiding. Terrible service
Big portions and the food actually tasted great - but you lose two stars for charging for tomato sauce. What are you thinking? Fair enough if I asked for creamy mushroom sauce or something - but tomato sauce? Even Macca's hands out packets of tomato sauce for free! You should seriously be embarrassed!
Been there couple of times. The very first names comes up in my mind when I search for Italian restaurant in Melbourne CBD.
Specifically I like the chicken parma, chicken schnitzel and milano pasta.
Came here with a couple of friends, were seated outside on a lovely spring noon and enjoyed some pizza and pasta. The staff are friendly, the milkshake was excellent and the carbonara was pretty good! It's a great spot if you're after a good value meal that you can keep eating the next day! I'd recommend to Uni students and groups.
I visit often and usually don't care about the poor service quality, but today 45 minutes passed and I realized the staff outright forgot my order, as people who came in after me were being served before me even though I only ordered a schnitzel. I wasn't interested in bugging a bunch of apathetic waitresses to do their jobs so I just saved them the trouble and left. Humiliating experience - I will not be returning and will encourage my friends to give their business elsewhere.
Didn't have time to eat unfortunately. However the guy who had ribs behind us, they smelled so good! Coffee was one of the best coffees we've had in a long time. Great service and we will definitely be back for a meal when not in a rush.
Staff may look unfriendly at the busiest times, but the parma is good and the salad is just perfect. If that amount of parma is too much, chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce is a lighter option with the same delicious salad!
