Umbrella Lounge Bar reviews
36Really charming Georgian restaurant with an even more charming host. Definitely try the xachapuri. The dumplings were almost the size of my head! Also watch this space as they will have a beer garden opening up soon.
Delicious food, amazing drinks, great homely atmosphere with beautiful live music and the best service you could ever hope for. Can't wait to go back!
This being the only Georgian restaurant in Melbourne it's hard to imagine why there isn't more hotspots with this delicious food, but for now Umbrella Lounge is all you'd need to experience authentic Georgian cuisine. Upon entering you instantly notice it's quirks and charm. Run by potentially the most above and beyond service gentleman, Temo, even just getting take-away food from here was a better experience than many other dine-in restaurants. He followed up with a beautifully friendly SMS a little while after we had finished our meal at home, to make sure everything was satisfactory. And for the record, it certainly was. Well done Temo, the Umbrella Lounge comes highly recommended, rain, hail or shine.
Highly recommended! We were amazed to find this Georgian restaurant serving authentic Georgian cuisine (offering take away)! Good and healthy flavours to explode your taste buds yet feel light and palatable. If you haven't tried Georgian food this is the place to go. Only one in Melbourne serving true Georgian food in true Georgian style and true Georgian hospitality. Temo the host is fantastic and we look forward to going back to this new found restaurant. Make sure you try the best xinkali and shashlyk in Georgian style that simply melts in your mouth! Georgian red wine is like no other in the world and simply feels it's a "healing" wine with every sip.
Very warm and cosy atmosphere.
Very delicious Georgian foods (cheese khachapuri was even better than the original one that I've tried in Tbilisi before)
Temo (Teno), the manager, was really friendly. He made our night. Such a great nice gentleman! We were really welcomed.
Prices are reasonable as well.
Strongly recommended.
We were a party of 8 people and choose the banquet. It was an incredible night with an amazing host (great live music) and delicious food. The variety of hot dishes such as the tasty lamb, chicken skewers and best potatoes combined with the cold dishes such as the barramundi and eggplants, we left the place so full with a lot of left over food that we took home to enjoy for the next few days! Thank you so much for a great night we will be back!
That was the nicest lunch I've had in ages. The lavash bread is soft and light on the inside, fresh and crispy on the outside.
The soup was hearty and delicious.
The man running the place, a small Georgian man, is so polite and attentive.
There's a table of older Georgian men next to me. They're all chatting away in their language.
Fabulous place to eat
Great atmosphere, excellent Georgian food and wine. Brilliant service and live music!
Must visit!
As a Georgian, so proud to see a Georgian restaurant in Melbourne. I would highly recommend trying our unique and delicious food, including the traditional khachapuri and the khinkali (Georgian dumplings). Try it out, you will not regret it and hopefully from then on you will be able to place Georgia on a map.:)
Well its not what I expected a night where I think there where maybe 5 people in total in the bar.
Drink prices, are over priced.and the place could do with a bit of revamping if you ask me to keep up with modern times. Little disappointed but I wasn't there for to long and I think most people don't the move on to somewhere else.
This is my new favourite restaurant! The owner provided the best customer service I’ve received in a long time. We had the banquet and it was fantastic, a great way to try everything. The lamb was hands down the best we’ve ever had in Melbourne. The man who runs this clearly works very hard and is an amazing host. Can’t wait to go back
Great atmosphere, great beer, good food. Live music is high quality, piano jazz was fantastic. Well worth a visit.
The owner is an amazing character. Great coffee and he provided us with Turkish delight Tim tams which is really above and beyond.
Took my friend out to dinner last Friday 5.4 so looking forward to a nice dinner and some music. All good from the beginning as we settled with a cocktail. The menu was very small with not a great deal to choose from so we ordered the lamb and chicken to share. What we got was a bland and uninteresting meal. Some warmish potatoes and white cabbage on the side. For $28 each you would expect a little more. Anyway what really set off the evening going down hill was when my friend went to the bar to order another drink. She said to the owner to serve the other person at the bar first. Slamming a wine glass so hard on the bar that it broke. " I'll serve whoever I want when I want this is my place I am the owner" he yelled. My friend was truly shaken. I am so angry with the way he treated us from then on telling me that he'd done nothing wrong and my friend was just being over acting (his words). The bill came to just over $155 dollars for two mains two cocktails and a bottle of wine. Wish I had read the other reviews of his behaviour and the food being ho hum. Usually I'd never write a long review like this but this place deserves it. Never again and I'd never recommend the umbrella to anyone.
I was asked to leave this cafe because I dared to ask the owner if he would mind turning on the fans, as I found it warm and stuffy in there. He snapped " no" at me. I asked him why he treated his customers like that, and he told me to leave. I have been there several times as I enjoy listening to the old world entertainment, and also pay to do karaoke there, and he has been extremely rude to me every time which I have put up with. But, his terrible customer service attitude and rudeness needs to be mentioned to any other poor unsuspecting customers that he may also take a dislike to for no rational reason. I do suspect that because I don't spend big money on his meals that this might have something to do with his unacceptable response to a very polite and acceptable request!
Good food but very limited menu, friendly service and reasonably priced. The restaurant is busy lunchtime but not so much in the evening.
Edit: we went there again for dinner 14/2 Valentine's day and there was a set price fixed menu of Georgian food. All in all fairy good and interesting dishes but some a touch too salty. Service is always friendly but slow.
There was a 4 piece jazz band playing throughout the night. I maintain the 4 star rating.
