Umberto Espresso Bar reviews
54Great local spot for an Italian style (I.e. Frothy) coffee and sweet out on the front walkway. It’s the best place to satisfy that specific type of cafe craving outside of the city/Carlton.
Fantastic little Italian restaurant. Great food and atmosphere.
And now they have a rooftop space which is perfect for a drink after work and some snacks. We also noticed they have a good selection of alcohol free or low alcohol cocktails and other drinks.
Dropped in for a coffee while my son was getting a haircut. Lovely service and really really good coffee, I’ll be back. And open at 4: 30 which can be hard to find.
Best atmosphere, food and service in the inner north! Their pasta dishes are melt in your mouth and even their breakfast dishes nail it as well. Love the place and am so grateful it is close to us!
5 stars every time! Beautiful quality food and coffee. My husband and I LOVE coming here, and we order everything as we can't pass up the dessert, the grappa, the charcuterie mmmm the best! What a gem:)
Excellent in everything they do. The coffee is authentic, and perfectly robust. The pastries (omg, the Italian style jam donut) are amazing, and the service and accents are authentic, friendly and real. This place makes lockdown bearable, if not enjoyable
Really not sure why this place is so well rated. Entrees were passable but both main pastas (carbonara and fungi cream) were really sub par - was quite shocked at how bad the quality of the dishes were - gluggy, westernised carbonara and the fungi dish was stewed and uncooked. Maybe an off night, but honestly very disappointed.
Food is always lovely.great
But sooo slow.i order pick ups for lunch and they are never ready for me.i always have to sit and wait.bit rude sorry
Our favourite for great coffee and the best prosciutto and mozzarella panino in the northern suburbs! Great family run vibe and genuine hospitality!
So so disappointed. For years Umberto was a weekly regular. Went last week for dinner and was so excited after not having been over all the lockdowns. Started with the salami board. Serving was small for the price and was served with oddly doughy warm 'bread'. Meats were nice but not great. Mains were Osso Bucco and a sausage main. The sausage dish was bland and we left it uneaten. The Osso Bucco was delicious, full of flavour and generous, so we shared this lovely dish for our dinner. The polenta that came with this dish was the very best I have ever had. Went well with the house reds we both chose. Our conversations kept getting interrupted by the woman on staff which became so annoying that we did not stay for dessert and coffee. Friendly is nice, but we were really looking forward to an evening together, not with her. Music was atrocious, loud and weirdly 70s. Suffice to say the atmosphere was not what we expected or remembered fondly from many, many previous visits. Dont think we will return.
Based on my experiences at Umberto's not as good as the other reviews suggest. May need to work on limited desert menu and pricing.
Second time here and the service is extremely average. We had to continuously call them to order/check our order etc, when there were staff behind the bar drying glasses. Our order took 45min to arrive ans no one bothered to tell us there will be a delay. When I asked if this is common, the waitress replied that a big order was before us. But that table arrived after us, so very annoying had to stay and wait there for 2 bowls of pasta. Won't return. The food is OK, but for the price point and the service it doesn't worth it.
Authentic Italian cuisine, wonderful customer service, delicious coffee! What else could you ask for?
Warm and genuine Italian atmosphere, the staff made me feel like home! Highly recommended if you are looking for a real Italian place in the area.
Small selection on the menu, but all authentic Italian dishes and really strong flavours. One of the best Italian restaurants in Melbourne, which is saying alot.
My first time at Umberto but not my last! The food (calimari and pasta) was delicious and the coffee was immaculate. The venue was quite large and very beautiful. Staff were all very nice and made for a comfortable lunch with my friends. Definitely recommend this spot whether it’s for brunch, lunch or dinner.
Lovely, authentic Italian food with fresh and well sourced ingredients. Great wine list and ambient space. We had zucchini flower entrees and a pasta main - delicious, house made pasta. The tira misu dessert was a highlight - perfectly balanced. Also worth mentioning the floor staff who were very warm and professional.
Glad that we have this authentic Italian restaurant in the neighbourhood. Just moved to Thornbury and walked in Umberto without any search and they did not disappoint us. Try Pannacotta for desert.
We were desperate for a bowl of pasta and stumbled across Umberto, which we had walked past many times previously without paying much attention to it. Not only did it deliver with delicious pasta but we were also impressed by how authentic everything was. It had a great display of desserts and the atmosphere was fantastic. We're thrilled it is so close to us and can't wait for this to become our new local.
I think this place has the highest UberEats rating in the neighbourhood and there is a reason for that. The food is impeccable and of consistent quality, whether you order home delivery or eat in at the restaurant. It’s only a small restaurant, so you need to book a table, but the experience is always outstanding. The customer service is absolutely second-to-none, and waiters never intrude on your meal. You are made to feel comfortable and well-fed. Really, this place has no faults except the chicken schnitzel panini should always be on the menu and available for home delivery. Other than that I cannot fault it.
