One of the best Italian restaurants in the northern suburbs. The tiramisu was our favourite, notwithstanding the creamy panna cota. The saffron ravioli is surprisingly really good, it should be permanently added to the menu. We would highly recommend this place. Plenty of parking space after 7pm, but definitely recommend to book a spot (we were lucky walk-in).

A genuine, honest and friendly Italian restaurant. Whether you're there for some food, a glass or both you'll get a small taste of Italy.

Rude af wait staff. Walked in for a snack at the start of dinner service and the waitress was rude and abrupt telling me to quickly decide what I wanted because they didn’t have the bruschetta. We initially asked for a panini and they said they switched to dinner then we saw the rude waitress eating a panini chatting away in the middle of the restaurant. Terrible customer service here.

Was lovely to sit down and watch the world go by, people watching, happy chappies laughing, smiling and chattering away, truly the vibe and atmosphere today was amazing and infectious! ️

We had the Italian Meatballs and the Calamari Fritti to start with and then the Seafood Marinara and the Scallopini Milanese

A simply lovely home style Italian meal enjoyed will soaking up Melbourne on a glorious spring day!

Absolutely delicious, best calamari I've ever had, not a big serve but was good with starters, was sad it had to end! Great service too

I think the specials menu is where a restaurant can show case their creativity and bring interesting dishes/creative combination out:
I had the duck ragù pasta, really not outstanding at all.
They should specify it comes in white ragù and not red:
If I wanted to eat butter pasta with fancy chicken I can make it at home!
Besides my fair scrutiny with food the atmosphere is lovely, and the staff shines for their warm service and friendliness, next time I will play safe and eat the cotoletta, this last is cooked to perfection and would defenetly recomend trying.

I have been here countless times in my year and a half of living in Thornbury! It is my favourite restaurant in the area and I take all of my friends here! The atmosphere, food and staff are all wonderful. The price point is also very good for how amazing the food is.

Umberto, esspresso Cafe are traditionally Calabrese Italian food and drinks, I booked online and 2hrs later I was there and greeted by the lovely staff who assisted me and my friends to our table, we had a plate of antipasto which consisted of ham Prosciutto, salami, cheese, olives, I had an entrees of the salt n pepper calamari with rocket mouthwatering, also we had tiramasu with organic cacao, and panecotta also delicious.
There was a party beside us who had spaghetti and meatballs, lasagne antipasto, and the list goes on, the coffee and cakes are delicious.
This place is situated at 917 High St Thornbury, its very quaint and the food makes up in volumes.
I highly recommend them I will be going back its well worth it as their prices are quite reasonable for the quality of service and food.

The squid ink pasta was delicious. The Panna cotta was so-so, but had an excellent wobble.

Love this place. Super friendly owner (I think he was the owner) and the staff were very attentive. The food was delicious.

Asked the waiter three times for butter for our bread. We both finished our meals and butter was no where to be seen. The reason for the review is that we told the owner at the counter when paying who was not concerned at all regarding the service and just said ‘we’re just busy’ takes around 20sec to action and I said 3 times.

Pricey for what you actually get and ok if you don't mind eating quickly. I actually like to savour my food, we went for dinner and the service was rushed, atmosphere was otherwise pleasant and staff efficient.

Pretty special little Italian bistro
Interesting carbonara with a few extra ingredients added than are traditionally used. Decent soft calamari, perfect wines by the glass and a Moreton bay bug spaghetti which was great. Homemade pasta here too.

Went there for breakfast last weekend, it was terrible.
I don't think there was a cook, the barista disappear after the waitress took the order.
Scramble eggs were terrible, barely edible. Coffee was average at best.
If that's how they gonna run it, they should not have reopened.

Eat at Umbertos regularly, a great midweek meal spot but I was refused entry to the rooftop because I had my newborn with me (asleep strapped to me in a carrier). The staff member said it’s an 18+ venue so the baby isn’t allowed. Suggest advertising that it is a kid-free venue to save people the trouble, rather than trying to pretend the law prevents a minor being accompanied by an adult. If you are worried your staff might serve my 4 month old baby a drink, perhaps they need a refresh on their RSA:)

Had wanted to try this place for a while. Was really disappointed. I ordered a carbonara and it was very watery. Almost like it had been thickened with cornflour. Maybe it was the chefs night off?

This establishment is exceptional.

Whether it be for a function or a casual lunch/dinner, the team are so well drilled and professional.

Their food is unbelievable and of the highest quality. No need to hit Lygon St for the best pasta in the North!

We’d give 10 stars if we could

Lovely evening. Great waiters. Food fabulous. We all had pasta, and all enjoyed what we ordered. The panacotta was beautiful.
