Trawool Fish & Chips

Absolute disgrace and rip off. 32$ for a box for 2 people absolutely tiny with enough food for 1 person if that. This place used to be decent and has gone down hill majorly. Definitely won't be returning what a complete rip off so disappointing. AVOID!

Called in to make a pick up order, the cashier was rude and unhelpful before hanging up. Claimed he could not understand me when questions asked were simple and precise such as how much do small chips cost. Never coming here ever.

The grease was rolling off the fish & potatoes cakes and chips were floating in grease.one of the worst i had in over 35 years
i have had bad chips before but this time had added heartburn

Went inside to order the whiting and chips and scallop.the fish was tender fresh and nice.chips were fresh and cripsy and scallop amazing.absolutely blown away by this place.the quality of the food here absolutely kills all other fish and chips shops Ive been to.the service from the new owners was simple and friendly.absolutely amazing! Will drive all the way to here again.dont know what the negative reviews are on about.this place is amazing

The service attitude is very poor, I won't come back again next time, especially the elderly man, it's disgusting

Call ahead for pick up and was told the order will be ready in 20 minutes. Arrived on time but waited another 20 minutes before food was ready. It was chaotic behind the counter and one staff was constantly yelling at the others. He could have been more productive by actually doing something. Arrived home to find that they have left out the calamari rings. The food we did get were overcooked. Very disappointing. Not returning.

New owners have ruined what was the best fish and chips in box hill. Over cooked fish. Chips and potato cakes are rock hard. Service was non existent.go to kerrimuir or box hill north!

A patron for 3 management ownerships. Current management have driven the product quality and service down to an unacceptable level. I have just changed to another nearby and wont look back. The portions were half normal amounts, the customer interaction poor amd when i voiced my expectation amd disappointment, the owner would not engage in having a reasonable discussion.

Go elsewhere if you want real fish and chips.

Been going for years. Potato cake the size of a biscuit. Sweet potato cake not supplied. Replaced with baby potato cake but charged for the sweet potato. Chips reducing in quantity over time. Snapper is nice. Will look for an alternate regular.

I'm generally not one to write reviews, and Trawool Fish and Chips has always been good quality and price.
HOWEVER, when visiting the store today, I smelt distinct cigarette smoke and wondered why I could smell this smoke - (if smoking is only meant to be partaken in outside).

I got up and saw one of the employees smoking in the storeroom out the back and was extremely disappointed as this is clearly against Tobacco Act 1987 (VIC), where smoking in all enclosed workplaces is prohibited. Not only this, but also in 2017, diners have been prohibited from smoking in outdoor seated areas. You require your diners to smoke in allocated spaces outside to protect the health of employees and other customers, but you allow your employee to smoke in the store? ! Complete disrespect for the health of other employees and diners.

When I confronted the employee about smoking in the storeroom, he pretended not to understand/care and when confronted again, he walked away.

How is this okay? We won't be back. If I could give 0 stars, I would.

My roommate and I ordered thru Menulog and got the food delivered, both of us got sick I puked and my roommate had a bad stomach

Fish was ok. Potato cakes and sweet potato cakes were burnt. Advice to the owners - there are many competitors in the area.

My favourite fish and chip shop. Not my local but worth the drive.

So this is still my favourite fish and chip shop. I have more than 6 closer to home than Trawool but still go there. BUT.tonight was a bad experience. Ordered basically two separate orders, one with salt, one without - and they got them around the wrong way. Got nearly home and realized they forgot a flake. Chips are still good, but salty - if this was my first trip there this would be a 1star review and I wouldn't go back.

The workers/owners were displaying a horrible services. When we just ordered 3 potato cakes, the counternist' face changed immediately to angry and frowned badly. I understand cuz they had to warm up the oil temperature but I don't think it is suitable

I have lived in Box Hill North for 12 years. Since the new owners took over (i am guessing 12/18 months) i have had two experiences with this business. The first time i had friends over and placed a phone order for the kids and got them to walk down to pick up. The kids called me and said that Trawool Fish and Chips didn’t have any order. Tonight i called them and placed and order and was informed that it would be 50 minutes. I arrived to be told that it would be another 50 minutes and that i should have left my mobile number despite them never asking for my mobile number. Never again will I engage Trawool Fish & Chips. No apology. No nothing. Disgraceful service!

Update.z23/09/20 Yes, new owners for a year or so. Initially this was hard to take because we loved the previous owner's product and service. Well, we moved on and tried them two or three times and there was nothing really to rave about. Tonight we came back for a forth try (we only live around the corner) and we were impressed. The fried flake was fresh, crispy and tasty, the grilled flake was also fresh and juicy. The chips were awesome and on par with the previous owner as with the potato cakes - this says alot as the previous owner was in the top ten rated f&c shops in Melbourne. The oil was fresh, sizings were great, an extra PC as well - flake was a little smaller than others - but this was my only picking point.
We'll definately be back!

Great taste and fresh oil. Food is always cooked nicely, and the serving size is perfect. The new management has improved the recipe of their batter. One of the best fish and chips I have had in Melbourne so far. Lovely and warm welcome into the shop when I came in to pick up. It was ready in a carry bag & reasonably priced. Food was so delicious. Will definitely visit them regularly.
