Tomodachi Izakaya & Bar

Never really been fans of Japanese food.however we are converted!
Casual atmosphere in a small space, excellent service ***
But the food blew us away, bursting with complex yet delicate flavors. Had the yakatori sizzling scewers (sooo good), gyu tataki beef, chicken curry Ramen, , veg dumplings.scallops pesto mayonaise.all delicious.try this fantastic little place, it's a winner. Thankyou Tomodachi.

Anyone seafood lover who walks past here for brunch and doest have the King Prawn chilli scramble is a Mug. This is my first visit here a d will be back to try all the other creative delicious dishes. My new favorite on the Geelong waterfront.

The yakisoba we ordered was EXTREMELY salty, one of the saltiest dish I’ve ever had dining out.

I wasn't expecting much because the atmosphere felt more like a place you ate quickly at then left, but the ramen really proved me wrong! Get the spicy one ;)

The food is lovely with a good selection of vegetarian options.the spring rolls and gyoza are the best.

My only complaint is they don't seem to stick to their posted hours (as in the hours on the door). They seem to close early or just not open with no prior warning

This is our go-to place for dinner. Their Bento and Ramen are delicious. Great value too.

One of my favourite restaurants on the Geelong Little Malop Street strip. One of the more affordable options on this street, with really tasty food. My favourite is the Agedashi Tofu, an excellent starter, really good to share, beautiful dish. Tomodachi are experts at tofu, all their tofu dishes have unique flavouring and textures - tofu is a textures game. I really recommend their mocktails, often nicer than their (good) cocktails. The restaurant is nice and warm on a cold, wet night. I'm not the biggest fan of the new online ordering system, but we worked it out, it creates a bill, to be paid for at the end, though the menu items aren't organised the best. The bathroom, out the back, through the kitchen is really nice as well.

Hands down the best Japanese restaurant in Geelong, My partner and I have eaten in restaurants all over the world and this was up there with some of the best food we have ever eaten, the food at Tomodachi was sensational, we were served by Michael and he made the evening so enjoyable. Good range of Sake and an extensive menu that will please even the fussiest eaters. Can’t wait to come back and eat again. Best meal I have ever eaten in Geelong. Good work guys

The food was amazing! And the staff are friendly. The breakfast was a 10/10. Would definitely recommend.

Nestled comfortably along trendy Little Malop Street in the heart of the West End Precinct of Geelong sits Tomodachi Izakaya and Bar that pays tribute to the corner bars of Tokyo.

Tomodachi has something for everyone. Beef, pork belly and chicken hot on the grill for the meat eaters. Salmon, prawns and scallops for the seafood lovers and bean curd and veggies for the vegetarians, accompanied by an impressive drinks menu to entice anyone who may visit. On that note, seating is limited so be sure to book as they do get crowded.

Overall the food was satisfying and our eyes were bigger than our bellies. We weren’t disappointed by anything but expectations weren’t exceeded which is not a negative point. A great meal.

Service was prompt and I don’t know if it’s just me but I love a chat with the staff and these guys were great hosts.

️ DISH OF THE DAY: Pork Ribs Bento - the pork fell straight off the bone and that chef’s special sauce was finger lickin’ good.

My children and I went here for late lunch on Sunday. My kids did enjoyed the foods we ordered. I am a coffee lover, and I enjoyed my latte that they served me. Service was excellent by Abi. They also offered us a complimentary grilled prawns for spending $50 and more in one seating, the prawns was tasty and delish.
However, the dessert that we ordered for $18.00 was a bit of dissapointment as we are looking forward for that Matcha cheesecake dessert. I truly appreciate the fancy plate presentation, but not the portion. I suggest if you could serve a reasonable slice for that cheesecake would be worth $18, the size portion for the cheesecake was just too small for $18 that's all but taste wise it was average. Otherwise this review could be a 5 stars, but overall experienced was good. Definitely coming back for a good coffee. ️

Excellent service by Tomodachi staff, we came from Melbourne to visit Timothy, awesome chef and we had crispy pork belly and cold goyza and Katsu curry

Fast service, friendly staff and the best Japanese food we've had in years! Such a great restaurant with the best atmosphere.

Had the Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen. Delicious! Portion is just nice as well. Hot broth for a cold night.

The best Japanese sticky pork ribs I've ever had! Fall off the bone but still has a nice bite and the sauce was sweet enough you could have it on icecream

Awesome cheap bento boxes among other yummy items. Food is great, service is quick. A great little lunch place

Decent food, bento comes in a take out plastic container while dine in, not particularly good for the environment

Quick service for most meals. The Miso Ramen was delectable. The izakaya pork belly was spot on. Grilled scallop came out a little bit slow but worth the wait.

Bookings are essential if you are a bigger group ie more than 2, due to the limited seating area but so worth it if you are looking for a ramen fix.

Friendly staff, a clean small Izakaya and bar, good selection of sake and wine, delicious tapas, highly recommended!
