Tim Ho Wan reviews
63A Quick eat spot for Chinese dim sum. Most of the food are authentic taste. Their must try is the charcoal lava bun and Siu mai.
To be honest, I have dined in this restaurant for over 10 times now, the food here is that good! 10/10 recommend!
If it's your first time coming here, you must order their signature BBQ pork buns, they are AMAZING, leaving you for wanting more.
The only reason why I didn't give full stars was because of the unfair wait time especially if you're dining in with a large group you would have to wait longer. Overall, very nice hot steaming food.
A colleague at work's been frequenting this place coz of the generous discounts on EatClub. Given it was 45% off today I decided to give 'em a go, but even at almost half-price I feel it was a waste of money. The much-lauded pork buns are ridiculously sweet and devoid of the light, fluffy texture this dish is celebrated for; it's pretty much just a hole-less doughnut with a bit of pork-meat inside. The bean curd rolls, on the other hand, were extremely salty and managed to be both dry and greasy at the same time. Urgh.
I probably wouldn't leave this review for a little hole-in-the-wall business, especially one that's offering EatClub discounts, but this is a huge, popular restaurant that apparently had a Michelin star once upon a time, so yeah. I don't get it, and won't go back.
Dinner 18/04/21
Very tasty with great service tried quite a few things and not a single bad thing.
Staff were really friendly and even gave containers and a bag for the left overs.
I’ve always loved the ‘baked bun with bbq pork’ at Tim Ho Wan Sydney & overseas, and craved for it on my Melbourne trip!
First time ever I had such bad experience with our ‘baked bun with bbq pork’ that was served to us COLD!
We told one of the staff and asked for a freshly baked serve at its usual. The staff apologised immediately, took it back to the kitchen for a replacement dish. However, we watched it being taken down to the kitchen bench and left back under the heat lamp for approximately 15 mins and brought it back to us.
I have no comment!
The food was good, I really liked the glutinous rice in lotus leaf, very yummy with pork and mushroom inside
But this restaurant has the same problem as many Asian restaurant in general, no politeness and not very friendly staff (not unfriendly neither), they don’t know how to welcome customers, no “Hello”, “thank you”, “enjoy your meal”, “good bye”, “have a good day”
Staff are friendly and their foods are flavorful in a very affordable price especially the baked pork buns!
I've been coming back and forth here when I was in Melbourne. I hope they expand around Australia.
1 star for quick service and cleanliness.
Don't even bother coming here unless you want something that fills the hole in your stomach. Food was plain, ingredients were not fresh and you get more flavour eating from HJ's or McDonalds.
The Hong Kong branch is incomparable to Melbourne. Do not come here for good yum cha dishes!
Great dim sum with that super quick service. Especially love the baked char-siu and the chicken rice. Point deducted coz the wasabi prawn dumplings are very underwhelming.
Simple yum cha dishes laid out on a menu with prices. Quite a nice difference to have prices in front of you when ordering. Very efficient and fast service, robotic even. Small selection of dishes but what we ordered was done well. Baked pork buns were great, really liked the pork and shrimp in bean curd skin and wonton noodles were good. Overall a good experience and would go back again. Didn’t disappoint and would recommend.
A fantastic restaurant with delicious food WHEN done properly. The biggest issue here is SEVERE inconsistency. Every time I come here I flip a coin for either wonderful or shocking food. Even down to ingredients in dishes changing seemingly at random. (BBQ pork vermicelli rolls having corriander in it randomly)
Amazing food, great taste of Cantonese cuisine. The quality of the food is definitely up there for yum cha — it’s a different level for sure. Only downside I found was the service, but they’re always quick to help if you call a staff member over so just be proactive if you need anything. Absolutely lovely experience!
Been eating here quarterly and very child friendly with baby high chair and cutlery.only drawer back in the toilet is outside the restaurant and would be ten out of ten if this was provided.
Took the kids on a small trip to the city for dinner and was disappointed to find out that they now have a 10% surcharge on weekends. On weekends? ! Great way to lose your customers.
Disgusting, i've been there yesterday and found cockroach in the soymilk drink, we called the staff and she took the drink away without apologize to us, we cancelled all the food we ordered and left the place. Cannot believe they got Michelin start award every year that they advertising in the menu. Bad services, rude staffs and Yucky place. Never and ever go there. Not recommend to anyone.
The foods are not bad. Nothing special for me.
Just few staffs are friendly.
If my friend wanna go here with me, I can be here.
But I will never been myself.
Dumplings are good. But I can buy similar items at the Asian grocery.
We were looking for a place to have Yum Cha in the city and decided to stand in line for this place as it was very busy but the line was moving quickly. As we stand in line, I read up on the reviews of this place and there seems to be a very mutual opinion about this place being very standard and lacking wow factor.but why is it so busy?
I ordered what was mentioned the most of reviews which were the baked pork bun and the meatballs as well as things that seemed nice to my taste.
I loved the baked pork buns and the prawn dumplings were divine! They need more attention IMO. The rest was nice but nothing outstanding. I don’t feel like I have to come back here, might perhaps order take away for the dumplings and buns but I rather explore more places.
Such delicious food! The egg tarts were so eggy and so incredibly delicious! Not too sweet, soft crumbly biscuit base, smooth and creamy filling. TO. DIE. FOR.
The food is good, but the service attitude is terrible. It’s understandable that it’s too busy, but the service attitude is really bad. The female staff throws the plates on the table or pretends to ignore the needs of customers.
I had 5 dishes. Amongst it all, the only standout and perhaps the only reason why many come to Tim Ho Wan are their baked pork buns. It's buttery and has a cookie-like crunch on the outside which makes it unique. If I come back again, I wouldn't order any other dishes.
