Theodore's / Bar Spontana reviews
41Delicious food and Mezcal - especially loved the birria taco’s and the waitress, Lilly was also awesome and educated us all about about Mezcal. Will be back for sure!
Loved the Mr West x Dingo Ate My Taco collab! Super tasty wines and mezcal and innovative tacos. Loved the baby margarita option too!
Delicious. The flour tortillas not so good. But the tacos on corn tortillas will blow your mind
Fantastic customer service with a great collection of beer, wine and cocktails to choose from.
The house sommelier suggested some great bottles and was open to helping find what was right for our table.
The food was delicious and prepared expertly and with a seasonal menu you can never get tired of what’s on offer.
I felt extremely welcomed and looked after during my meal.
All of this generated an excellent atmosphere highlighted with great music.
The manager was exceptionally customer facing and helpful.
Would take my friends again!
Excellent vibe and the menu is always a seasonal selection. Everything was on point and would highly recommend.
Great breakfast.
They also did a collaboration with a Mexican restaurant and it was delicious.
Excellent hidden gem!
We love this spot for vino. Unpretentious wine bar with nice selection of wines and friendly staff. Ryan’s the best, warm service with great knowledge of wines. It’s our new local. Highly recommend!
Could not recommend this place more. The service. The food was of such quality.
A gem of the north.
A great bar/restaurant with nice chilled ambience and friendly staff (Ryan, Claire, and Cam). The red and cheese combination recommended by the staff was amazing.
One of the best dinner experiences in Melbourne, top food, top wine, top staff! Cannot recommend enough
Vegetarian (and more) culinary delights made and served by staff who truly love their craft. Fresh, experimental and exciting offerings set amidst the Brunswick vibe. Fab.
One of the best all round dining experiences I have had in a long time.
Food - Set menu in Oct/Nov - Delicious and generous but not too much. Perfect price for what you get. Highlights were obviously the Lamb, the Croquettes with pickled onion and the cured Salmon. But for me a must for any diner - get the 'extra bread' honestly some of the best I have ever had!
Drinks: Amazing selection of wine, also great non-alcoholic options. We had purchased wine takeaway a number of times and knew it would be greart, but the recommendations from the staff were on point and the by the glass options were perfect for the food.
The Restaurant - Humble, comfortable, and the change from daylight to night time, meant the restaurant completely changed in atmosphere. The natural light from the roof which faded as evening set was noticed by everyone at our table. To see the kitchen while dining from anywhere in the restaurant and how close we all were to other diners made this feel genuinely like a place you were meant to be at in that given moment.
Staff - This was what tipped us over the edge. AMAZING Friendly, warm, humble, they had a laugh, remembered conversation from the start and bought it back to chat at the end. They seemed genuinely pleased to be speaking to us and made us feel so welcome and well looked after. I have spoken to other people about their experiences and its all been the same. Thanks for the effort here team, you have a great crew and seem to work so well together. Keep it up, this sets you apart from so many other great restaurants!
We have been twice in 1 month and will definitely be back. Appreciate all you do
One of the best spots in Brunswick.
A beautiful dinner with extremely attentive service.
I’ll be back for more very soon.
What a fantastic spot nestled down a laneway in the heart of Brunswick.
A warm welcome reception and we were taken to a cosy little nook and we started with two delicious cocktails. These went down super well with the ultra delicious scallops in spicy butter. Highly recommend.
The oysters with granita were ok but I felt the granita lacked flavour and overwhelmed the delicate oyster beneath.
The rest of the meal was fantastic paired with a great wine list. Delicious fish with a green sauce that wasn’t too in your face it complimented the fish well.
Ask the friendly staff for their wine recommendations and they will happily inform you.
I’ll be back and will return with more friends so we can sample the menu beyond their super well priced $45 set menu:)
As beautiful as ever! Theo’s staff are so warm, charismatic and knowledgeable, and the chef’s menu was super tasty - an exciting range of dishes and all so simple but delicious, particularly the hibachi asparagus and the broad beans. The substitutions for my vego friend were great and we both ended up so full and happy - thrilled to be back.
Food was completely delicious and service was incredible! Awesome wine selection too! Highly recommend!
Really nice experience overall! I thought the service was just what you want, the food was great and the atmosphere was nice too.
Perfect ambiance for a date! The food was absolutely delicious, and service was great. Staff checked multiple times what our dietary requirements were. All waiters friendly and able to provide additional information about the wine selection and the food.
After months of enjoying their takeaway during lockdown (who doesn't love a pretzel brunch and a cocktail to get you through the day?) it was wonderful to finally be able to sit in and enjoy the hospitality at Theodore's.
Somehow it exceeded even my highest expectations. I had the cleanest, brightest martini of my life and outstanding wine recommendations (Theodore's punches well above its weight in the wine list - next time I'm coming back for the Jura). The set menu was generous, and to be honest we just went all out with the add-ons not because we were still hungry but because we didn't want to miss anything.
The service was warm and impeccable, the space is inviting and, well, just damn aesthetic. It hits all the right notes for 'stylish scandi meets industrial chic'. The outdoor casual seating benefits from the fact that it's tucked away from the Sydney Road noise - it's private and relaxed.
Oh, and the Theodore's folks are all just really, really great. This is a fact.
Honestly, I'm looking forward to when hospo can move beyond the current two hour seating times so I can stay at Theodore's for hours, drinking wine and snacking on fish wings and fresh oysters. In the meantime, I guess I'll just have to keep coming back as often as possible, and bringing all my friends.
Hi everyone, this place is a hidden Gem of Brunswick, the coffee is really good, the bagels are amazing and their food is also to die for.but what i probably enjoy the most is the staff is extremely friendly and they support the community. Also they change the menu weekly and they are offering fine dining food for a really affordable price.
If you live in brunswick or if you are looking for a nice dining experience do yourself a favor and try this place! I'd recommend a booking as I'm expecting them to be really busy once we're all allowed back into dining in restaurants.
