Theatre Royal reviews
35Amazing venue for live music, Love Shack Brewery had some beers. Would recommend for either a sunny arvo or night time gig.
Fantastic night out in Castlemaine. Pizza delicious and then out the back for live music. Love Shack beer is quality as well.
I love going there, there is always something interesting going on, great friendly staff, check it out
What a blast from the past, truly elegant venue.
Adore the intimate couches & old school balcony seating.
GREAT pizza, some of the finest I have ever eaten.
What a shame this business never answers their telephone, or responds to pick-up orders. After yet another failed attempt to purchase food from this establishment, I will not be trying again.
This crew were to me the most essential of all the essential services in 2020. I have them on speed dial for their pizzas!
INCREDIBLE VENUE. Staff are so friendly and the vibe is wonderful. Didn't realise it was a cinema as well!
The food is delicious and the drinks are plentiful. Highly recommended.
Independent country town music venue, and cinema. An amazing asset to a pretty cool town. Deserves our love and support.
Very long and varied history providing entertainment and more to Castlemaine and visitors. Older locals remember the Theatre Royal as the Pit (snake pit lol) on Friday and Saturday nights, converging from many hotels over town at closing time 12am. The Theatre Royal, late night licence (3am), a light to a moth. It was byo awhile back to.
Changed somewhat with the passing of time and owners. Hipsters magnet, great vibe, acts including Tex Perkins, Lloyd Cole & recently Cosmic Pycho's. Keith Urban, selling tapes for $10 before & after his gig (way before he became a "overnight success" & swept Ms Kidman off her feet).
Nice to sit outside during the day/evening people watching. Some staff act way too cool to be serving common people, not a rarity in the industry, but others bring a smile and a laugh. Movies, music, World premieres, festival openings, wakes, blue light disco and on and on it gives. A beautiful lady our Theatre Royal. Bring respect, good will and joy and you'll love it.
Finally, a word to the wise. Be kind to the local's and you will be welcomed and appreciated. But should you decide to poke the bear - well as a respectful visitor, you wouldn't dare do such a thing, would you. Cause if you do, lots and lots of Teddy Bear kisses for you. Enjoy, it's a wonderful part of a wonderful town.
Laid back venue that manages to present a varied and interesting program of entertainment. Close to a range of dining venues to make for a good night out in Castlemaine.
The Theatre Royal has always been a hub for the community but the new owners have taken the music and offerings to another level
Had a great informative day at the Theatre Royal at the Reconciliation Day. Great food, atmosphere and company
This is just a great venue. Saw William Crighton & Beans on Toast (Beano to his friends) last night. Just fantastic
I love the theatre royal. Not because it's the best cinema, or the best live venue ever built, but because of its history, and because of it's staff.
It's really something to read that this place was built in the 1800's.like seriously.
When I go here, I like to think about that. And think about what was playing back then. The theatre, the town dances. The goldmining era, and all the crazyness that must have brought to the town.
Recently we saw Ross Noble here, and it was amazing. It's a great venue for live gigs, and the staff were really friendly and laid back.
Such an amazing venue. Great for Castlemaine.
Compromised of a very popular Cafe/bar and a cinema.
The bar is very chic with an outside area, which has been known to extend into the street on festival weekends. Seating inside is not huge. The beer on tap selection is not broad, but showcases some uncommon brands.
The cinema itself is very cool. Definitely an arthouse venue. There is an upstairs and a downstairs area. The downstairs area is a flat floor with lines of two seater couches. You can bring your drink in, or another chair if you need. There is only one screen, so you only have one choice of film per night.
