The Wheelhouse reviews
32 4.5 Stars.
I completed a number of ‘terms’ here at the Wheelhouse. Belinda is a fantastic instructor - she adapts her teaching style based on the students goals/learning style. I started off in her class, and continued enrolling in terms with her.
The Friday night class was mostly other young people, and was a great vibe to end the week. I would definitely recommend. I think it is reasonably priced.
The reason for deducting 0.5 stars is because it is very difficult to do a makeup class (they do have one class a week) - there’s not really a lot of flexibility, which can be challenging in an 8 week term.
There is free street parking in the evenings.
Couldn’t recommend this place more! We recently had our staff party at the wheelhouse studio & had such a fun time. The owners did such a good job explaining everything & everyone was super nice. Such a nice space & the platters were delish too!: P Overall a great experience!
Beautiful and inclusive space with amazing and talented teachers!
I have been taking term wheel classes for a year now and I have always felt very welcomed and at home in the studio. The space is light and airy with a calm and fun vibe but what really makes The Wheelhouse is the people! Dean, Garry and the team create a judgement free space for learning and I have been lucky enough to be taught by Fleur, Dean and now Belinda. They are all incredibly skilled creatives with unique styles and approaches and are all very encouraging, patient and kind. I had never tried pottery until joining the studio but my creative confidence has grown hugely in such a short time because of this amazing team! If you have been thinking about trying out ceramics, The Wheelhouse is a must! Can’t rave about my home away from home enough!
If you’re looking for a supportive, fun pottery studio then you can’t go past the Wheelhouse. The team are super friendly and knowledgeable. I’ve been a student for a year and it’s the highlight of my week! You learn something new every class, it’s completely addictive and awesome to see how you improve over time. Couldn’t recommend the team enough!
Such a rewarding experience, kind teachers, lovely owners and a beautiful space to learn. Our group in the intro class had such a good time and everyone was so thrilled to be creating together. Our finished products turn out great and the studio was kind enough to let us take some of the previous classes forgotten works home. Can’t recommend this experience enough.
Classes at The Wheelhouse Studio are way too much fun and completely addictive! I’ve completed a few terms now of both hand building and wheel and can’t recommend it highly enough. The workspace is beautiful, and the team are just so skilled, friendly and accommodating. Studio doggie pats are also an added bonus
The best. I came to The Wheelhouse to learn how to make a bowl and have made so much more with the help of Dean. The environment is fun, supportive and friendly and I love my Thursday evenings with these people.
I thoroughly recommend visiting the Wheelhouse Studio.it is a must try activity for groups and individuals alike and you are bound to be in for a wonderful experience.
I came recently as a part of a team bonding activity and we couldn't praise Dean and Garry enough. They were both so very patient whilst instructing and working with us.
I was brand new to pottery and it had been decades since I last handled clay.yet after a couple short hours had managed to create something on the wheel, a true testament to the quality of teaching. You will not regret giving this a go!
If you want to laugh, talk about Netflix (and occasionally drink wine) while learning all things pottery this is the place to be!
This is the funnest and most supportive place to learn how to do both hand building and wheel-throwing pottery. No matter which teacher you have you will have a ball and take home something you are really proud of!
Dean is kind, patient, extremely talented, and one of the best teachers in ceramic arts. He, Garry and their team are to be congratulated for such an amazing business and their new studio, The Wheelhouse is just what we all need to calm our nerves with fun and creativity. My husband and I are very lucky to own a bowl and a vase made by Dean during lockdown. Just what we needed to cheer us up. We hope to see an exhibition of Dean and his students work soon so can buy some more pieces. Congratulations:)
Fabulous studio and wonderful, patient and highly experienced teachers! I have done multiple terms on the wheel and have loved them all. You learn so much in every class, and it is extremely gratifying to hold a finished piece of pottery in your hands at the end of term — ones that you’ve thrown on the wheel, trimmed and then glazed! Can’t recommend it enough:)
I absolutely loved my classes at The Wheelhouse. I’ve tried a few ceramics studios and this is by far the best. I’ve re-booked for next term. The staff are amazing teachers and I’ve gained so much knowledge and experience. Highly recommend.
The Wheelhouse is an amazing studio with the friendliest staff. Was lucky enough to do a 4 week course last month and loved the experience. Dean was our teacher and was so helpful and patient. I have moved interstate otherwise would have continued more classes in a heart beat. Highly recommend this gem!
I would have loved to experience the 2 hour intro to the wheel class that my mum gave to us as a Christmas present. My wife and I were really excited to do something a bit different, and creative.
Unfortunately, due to the lockdowns and unavailability of courses on their website we were unable to book until December 2021. The correspondence I had with them during this time was OK, but they were very quick to point out that they wouldn't be offering this product in the future and made it sound like an inconvenience that we were trying to book in. When the day came, we had to cancel our session because we had attended an exposure site the day before and were instructed to quarantine. Again I was told they were not offering this product in the future and made to feel like they didn't really want to honour this gift certificate at all.
When I tried to re-book in February this year as a birthday treat, I was quizzed as to why it took so long for us to re-book which I thought was quite rude and a bit strange. When I explained that I had been away for work in December, and over Christmas, and training new staff (I work rurally) throughout January, I was basically told "its been over a month, sorry we won't honour this gift certificate".
Granted the certificates have expired because its been ages (COVID etc), but to be rude, and somewhat condescending about it is unnecessary. We also weren't offered any alternative, it was like being politely told to F off.
I tried wheel spinning for the first time. It was relaxing spinning my creations, even with the ones that went rogue because I kept spinning too fast. Dean was a great teacher, the class was chill and fun.
My wife received a gift voucher for a class here and she decided to book me in too so she didn't do it alone. We had the greatest time! Dean the teacher was very patient, clear and funny. We made 3 bowls each wheel throwing which we decided to get glazed and fired. I think you normally get 1 glazed and fired included in price and have to pay $25 with each extra item. Incredibly calming and therapeutic experience. We look forward to doing it again. Highly recommend this class for beginners!
I've done 3 terms now and I can't believe how amazing the pottery I'm turning out is, in such a short time. I really thought I had no creativity at all. It must be down to Dean, his knowledge, patience and the beautiful space he's created.
Had such a fantastic time here recently.
My friends and I wanted to try pottery and we were so glad we found the wheelhouse!
Dean was so friendly and attentive. The space is so beautiful and in a great location.
Great value for money. The best part is that we all made a keepsake to remember our girls day with!
Suitable to all ages, we will be bringing our mums back to share the experience.
Thankyou so much Dean, see you soon!
Had the best time in our introduction class. Dean is such a good teacher, he had loads of patience, and helped us create functional pieces.
Had a wonderful time at the Wheelhouse tonight. Dean is an amazing teacher and it such a beautiful space to practice pottery in.
