The Third Tier

A must visit place for breakfast and high tea lover. I can't believe I'd never been to this hidden fine dinning gem before in Melbourne. Came here with my family and we all. The owner Ali so generous, food was so delicious and very beautifully plated. A must visit place.

Diamond High Tea was fantastic value - the portions were generous, the ingredients fresh, and the scones after were delicious (not too doughy) Macarons were crisp and flavoursome. Staff were attentive and friendly.

The soundtrack was string covers of pop songs, which is the perfect acknowledgement that high tea is a classy experience and warrants orchestral music, but punters also want to know the songs they’re listening to and thus we need contemporary songs rather than Vivaldi.

A wonderful morning for three generations of family, everyone left happy and satisfied.

Nothing classy about this place!

I hate writing bad reviews however consumers need to be warned… stay away unless you love disappointment.

In the beginning it was comical how bad the service was but after not being served our high tea for almost 1.5 hours and seeing the other diners with their high tea, I feel the need to write this.

I understand that sometimes restaurants get busy and overwhelmed but the booking was made serval months prior which would allow time to prepare and plan. There is no excuse.

Where do I start?

Food
Middle Eastern Beef Samboosek - bland and inedible
Mushroom and leek quiche - soggy and bland
Arancini of the day - only thing decent on the plate
Chicken & dijon sandwich - average
Egg gribiche sandwich - bread was stale and inedible
Panko crumbed prawn bao, slaw,
fried shallots & coriander - 1 prawn was ok but nothing to write home about
Scone - weird texture like playdoh

Tea.
Meant to be bottomless pots of tea, not once did the staff come and ask if we want a top up or see if we would like to try another flavour. We had a table of 11 with 3 pots of tea. Had to ask several times for milk which was enough for 2 people.

They do not accomodate for small children.
At the time of booking 4 high chairs were requested, guess what upon arrival only 2 were provided.
When asked could they serve the 7 children their high tea first as they were getting wrestles, we had to wait another 30 minutes and all were served at different times.

Coffee.
We ordered a round of coffees, another wait and what looked to be dishwashing liquid bubbles on top of the coffee. We still hadn’t gotten high tea and the waiter shoved a eftpos machine in our faces asking to pay.

Wait Staff.
When the high tea finally came out we were not served enough and asked on 3 occasions where the serving for 2 people’s was.
A very rude and abrupt woman came storming over and said “what did you say to that guy”, that guy referring to a waiter” what professionalism. While this was happening the assumed manager of this establishment was giving us all an offence glance from the cash register.

Not once did the waiters or manager come and say sorry for the delay or offer for the coffees to be on the house. Clearly untrained, unprofessional and need a lesson in customer service.

I feel we needed to wait for the other customers to eat their high tea as there were not enough serving plates to accomodate.

Such a terrible disappointment and I feel for the person who booked it as it was meant to be a very special day for her and her family.

The worst part of the experience was when it came to paying the bill and they overcharged stating that we had ordered another high tea. What the actual…

I can safely say no one in that group will ever return to this place or recommend to anyone.

Nice venue and decor. A good blend of sweet and savoury selection. We ordered 2 sets for 4 people and food was abundant we couldn’t finish them. However, the sandwiches were a bit dry and the savoury options are just okay.

Today we hosted a surprise baby shower at the third tier, the staff and owner were super friendly, helpful and supportive while we were setting up our props and let us in half an hour before opening time to do so. It is a lovely place with great atmosphere and the food is delicious! Especially the crispy chicken boa - yum! I really enjoyed the flavour of tea I chose (it had pear and jasmine in it) and it's such a generous serving. They also had gluten free options for my sister who is celiac.
We had such a great time here, im excited to come again.

Food and presentation was good. Can improve on cleanliness. The tea menu on the table and the floor was dirty.

I am writing this recommendation on behalf of my mother. She hosted a bridal shower on the 29th for my sister, and the event was absolutely lovely!
Food was delicious, and the service went above and beyond! Especially, in regards to accomodating our requests and compensating my mother for the unplanned cancellations.
Definitely recommend this venue to anyone who needs to organise a small intimate event and will be coming back for our next event!:)

Aesthetic is lovely, food is good, but they really need to lift their service and cleaning standards.

The staff are friendly, but don't seem familiar with basic service hygiene standards. Tables, floors and menus were filthy.

I have been to this establishment a few times now, for 2 birthdays and an afternoon tea with a friend. The food is amazing, the tea is delicious (try the Mother Earth, it's my favourite) and everything from the seats to the plates are lovely.
My only issue is the service, it seems to differ substantially depending on the staff on shift. Most of the time everyone is nice but some of the staff are just amazing and couldn't be nicer while we have encountered those who seemed they would much rather not be there at all.
I heartily recommend going here as it is worth it

We tried the sapphire package and calling it perfect would be an understatement. The service - 10/10, ambiance - 10/10, food & tea- 12/10 (AMAZING). They were accommodating to different dietary restrictions and did not compromise on the flavour.

Such a lovely venue. We were a group of 5, who enjoyed the Ruby Tea, We can't recommend this place enough, the food was delicious and such great value for money. Highly recommend!

Just avoid at any cost if you dont get a written confirmation on the things that you agreed on before the event! (Must do)

Very disappointed and utterly shocked by the way that they handled the whole booking process. Very rude customer service by staff specially the guy who works there says something on the phone and when we went there on the day he says we can't do this and that.decor as we discussed and the seating set up. I have called them 3 times to confirm the dietary requirements and the menu option I prefer.each time different staff pick up the phone and take down the details and on the event day they still get it wrong! The picture of the high tea is a shared plate for two and it's not for one person. They got the order wrong and took so long to serve food like one and half hours and last 15 mins they said we have to wrap up, get up and leave as they have to prepare for the next event.we didn't have the time to cut the cake properly and enjoy coz from the start they were so negative about everything and ruined the whole vibe by not allowing to put the balloons up on the wall as agreed on the phone and the guy said he can cancel the order for us 15 mins to the event and 16 of us were planning this for months.how horrible he sounded.so unprofessional and so rude.food is average and so cold.

Lovely place to enjoy a high Tea. However a small suggestion would be to heat the room up a bit in cold weather.

The Third Tier is such a beautiful venue, the decor is set so nicely. We had the Diamond Deluxe High Tea which was visually perfect and each layer of goodies perfect in taste too.

I loved the selection of savoury and sweet options, the tea choices was great too! There was so much food that we couldn't finish it all! Very generous portions and I can see why it was so busy on the day.

We booked my daughter’s surprise bridal shower was on Sunday the 29th of January 2022 and were so disappointed by the service at Third Tier. We had a total of 14 guests and were given an uncomfortably tight seating in the venue. The waitstaff were rude and would not let us take photos of the event. They would not let us leave our seats as they kept saying there was not enough room. One of the waitresses, Yasmine, was rude, unprofessional and rough. She shoved one of our guests with a tray and was not apologetic. The staff had clearly overbooked the venue and cleared our tables and decorations well before the end of our booking time. Yasmine became argumentative when we tried to clear this up. Shocked by the unprofessionalism. Worst dining experience we’ve had and it ruined what was supposed to be a very special day for my daughter. Please do not book this venue for any of events, they are not equipped to cater for it!

Vegan options are amazing! Love that there are so many delicious mocktails to choose from. Beautiful interior, friendly and attentive staff.

The atmosphere of the place and decorations were lovely. We got the Ruby set which had egg sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, crispy chicken bao and scones with our choice of bottomless tea. I enjoyed the food and had the Blue tango tea (off menu)

The staff was friendly but service was a bit slow. Had to ask to change cutlery and cup because it wasn't clean. Had an okay experience but probably won't come back

My first time trying high tea and I definitely enjoyed it! The food was delicious, staff were friendly and the interior was absolutely STUNNING

Mum and I had a beautiful experience at Third Tier. We had the 'Diamond' high tea and everything was beautiful. The attention to detail by the staff was incredible! Highly recommend!
