The Railway Club Hotel reviews
81Great food, great atmosphere and great service. I'd recommend the The Railway Club Hotel to all meat lovers!
Paid a lot for a steak which was not up to what we paid. Dry and not seasoned. Was still edible and I was not going to make an issue but when the restaurant proactively emailed me seeking feedback I provided it. I got no response. I think if you are seeking the feedback and I am putting my time in to provide it the very least you can do is reply.
$26 cocktails that are being poured of of a premixed jar is a bit much. Food is left wandering where the rest of the meal is.packet Coles ham on the Parma seems to fit this place. Too bad prices don't match what you get.
Food was ok. Parma was under whelming. Left wanting. Really disappointed by pre mixed bottles of Negorni. $26. Don't recommend
Overpriced and below average experience. Steaks were bland, and was charged $16 for a bowl of sliced tomatoes and onions, and $28 for 150 ml of (supposedly French) Pinot that tasted like vinegar
Only come here if you have deep pockets and bad taste
Nice place. Definitely lives up to its reputation. I like sitting outside and watching the world go by. Great place for a drink. The king George whiting is very tasty.
One of my favourite steak houses close to the Melbourne CBD. Their food is honest and delicious, the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere is happy and vibrant. The chef's obviously know their way around a steak, but they also make amazing fare aside.
We had the pleasure of having the tasting platter for a starter, definitely recommend if you can't decide what to get, as you get a bit of everything. I then got the 300g eye fillet with creamy peppercorn sauce, and my husband got the 350g porterhouse with garlic butter. We decided to have the chips with one (oh my they are good) and then steamed vegetables with the other.
Finally we both couldn't pass up the special Tiramisu for dessert. This was amazing and we are so happy to have indulged.
Can't wait to come back again!
Fantastic food and service was relatively quick even though the place was packed. Will be returning!
What a disappointment! OK, first for the good things. We went for a business lunch for a big transaction. The staff were quite friendly and accommodating but seemed quite distracted the whole time. I ordered the wagyu porterhouse, which is their most expensive steak. It was amazing. Rare side of medium rare, which was a bit under, but nonetheless was tender and flavourful. Glass by the wine was OK but nothing special. Oysters were really good. Very fresh. That's where the good part ends. The entrée prawns was a major yawn and not worth the $$. My steak came with cold fries and a red wine jus that can be best described as red wine water. It was SO runny. They took it back to thicken it up but it was only hotter, but no thicker. I gave up. 2 of the steaks had to go back. They were ordered medium rare and medium to medium well respectively. They both came out not much past blue. They also had cold fries and then came back with more cold fries. Both steaks were very tough and just not nice. The sides came out incorrectly ordered and needed to come back. We skipped dessert. Too scared. It was quite a big $$ bill but left very unsatisfied and most disappointed. I used to go here often and it was really good. Sad to say, we won't be back.
Come here for a weekly work lunch and their porterhouse steak Thursday. Staff are wonderful, food always high quality and drinks are competitively priced.
Service was absolutely fantastic but thats all thats good about this place. Gravy is just mushrooms in water and thats the only gravy they offer, schnitzel is barely cooked and not golden at all, chips are thick and have no flavour and the salad has no dressing. The steaks are nicely cooked but have no seasoning. Pretty expensive for how terrible the food is. Won’t be coming back here.
Wow the food was amazing, the steak was cooked to perfection.
It's just such shame the male waiter we had this evening was very rude.
Just not what you want when you spend $200 for a couple of steaks.
Casually dined into this restaurant. Ordered a steak for 2 and a bowl of fries. Despite the full booking, and we got a table outside the bar, the service food is excellent! Just that the just for the jus is tasteless.
Simply one of the best steak place!
Ordered the wagyu porterhouse and i have 0 complaint. The service is top notch, the vibe is amazing, great selection of wine and steak!
Must try and will definitely come back again!
Great atmosphere, nice staff and all around an iconic place to dine in. My steak did lack some wow factor or any factor for that matter. I had much better memories of their food in the past. Ordered an eye fillet if i m not mistakint 220 or 250G.
Amazing steak, great atmosphere i have had several work functions and dates here. Food and staff are always lovely. Would recommend.
This is one of the two "Homes" of Steak in Melbourne for me and my gang. To be frank, they are awesome steaks, accompanied by a great wine list (Wild Duck is the favourite). Also easily accessibility from the the CBD on the 109 Tram from Collins Street.
Best steak in Melbourne hands-down.
Been there so many times and never failed to love up to the high expectation.
Service was top notch and selection of wines & spirits were good.
Highly recommended if quality is what you are after
It was our first time here, fantastic food and plenty free parking right outside, the waiter gave absolutely amazing service, highly recommend.
Absolutely delcious steaks with great atmosphere and staff. A particular standout dish was the chicken liver pate which suprised even the non believers.
