Absolutely incredible green, this is truly the standard of excellence. In particular, the 18 holes at Gunnamatta is amazing with stunning views at the last few holes which no picture or video could truly capture. A+ all the way, breathtaking.

Still one of the best tracks. Haven't played there for 20 year's, still challenging, scenic and Robert Trent Jones incredible!

There is nothing in Australia that compares with this complex. It is superb. The three courses all have totally different characters and difficulty levels and they show off different parts of this magnificent piece of land. It’s impossible to get stale or bored playing golf here.

The highlight for me is always the Old course, it is the best of the lot by far. New players never forget their first round on the Old course. It is rated behind the other two on the golf ratings lists but they are wrong and the blokes responsible for it probably cannot play the Old. It is the ultimate challenge but rewards the attempt!

Moonah is also a delight, you often play with hundreds of kangaroos and wallabies watching you. It is a longer course and requires a different style of play.

Gunnamatta is the newest and most highly rated but somehow I find it the least exciting to play. The greens in Gunnamatta are amazing.

The quality of the dining at the National is next level. It is fine dining but reasonably priced. Don’t forget to look at the specials menu which changes every day. The wine list is extensive and well priced.

The hospitality team, led by Eva are first class and make the post round experience fantastic.

The golf shop team are friendly and helpful. You can even get a complimentary club clean if you ask the guys in the cart area nicely!

One of the worst employed clubs, too low to officially fire staff so they remove shifts. The CEO’s are totally incompetent, shouldn’t be running a kindergarten let alone a golf club. No wonder they have so many complaints from members due to not having long term trained staff. The CEO’s should see what it’s really like to work not just in a office and point fingers. Gutless!

If you get the chance play here!

I really do love this place, best over all golfing facility in Australia. Practice facilities are amazing, club house is amazing and most importantly the courses are insanely good. No matter which course you play the tee boxes, fairways, and bunkers are always immaculately maintained and pretty much perfect. The greens are just spectaculars and can get ridiculously fast in summer. Super tight lies everywhere, hard to tell what is green, what is fringe and what is fairway at times.

Sand base so it plays firm. Consider throwing low bounce wedges in the bag if you have them. Look out for snakes when it's hot. Consider a cart on the old course if you're not fit. Low runners and using the contours is the go on all three courses (not including long island in this).

Be prepared.you will probably end up; in knee high rough, in a bunker that you can't see out of, hitting a false front and watching your ball roll 100m back down the fairway, and putting off the green at some point.

Golf is fun!

I'm a guest of the National. I played Long Island twice, was very impressed and was lucky enough to be invited to play Moonah today.
What an experience. Having played many of the top courses in Melb, including Royal Melb West Course, today was the best golf experience I think of my life. Starting with the staff in he pro shop, they went out of their way to explain where everything was, even walked me out to the front to show me where the driving range was. Mega Kudos for that. Then I went into the restuaturant, and asked if they had anything vegetarian, to which they responded, we can make something up for you.
Im not joking, the sandwich I received was the best one ever, fair dinkum.
The driving range was fantastic, and onto the course I went.
There is not one boring hole. There are many really really hard holes. It did help, that today there was not a lot of wind. Ended up in the bar after the game, and looking over the course, and seeing a winter sunset was surreal. Should be on your bucket list. Wish I had more money I would join. Unreal

Nice view golf course but need to staff training was really happy to see great golf course but one of restaurant staff told me I can't stay there because I 'm not members. That golf course not allowed non members why not sign on board my fist impression was beautiful that after staff say to me very bad. I not going anyway but I want tell everyone to what was happening

The National is made up of 4 fantastic courses, all of which are ranked all 4 within the top 100 of Australia. With options like that, there is no wrong choice. However, we are huge fans of Mr Tom Doak and have been fortunate to have played some of his best, so our decision was easy: the Gunnamatta Course.

In common with many of the Doak designs we’ve played, the Gunnamatta Course has large open fairways. Similarly, however, you need to be able to put the ball in the correct position off the tee in order to have the best opportunity for an easier approach. The fairways were sand based which made them play firm. Offering crisp clean tight lies, they felt and played very links in style. Many of the fairways were lined with tussock-styled grass which was eager to grab any of our wayward shots.

The large, undulated greens ran pure, offered a multitude of pin positions, and simply were magnificent. Like true links golf, we were able to play the ball on the ground, letting the contours of the course help guide us. A couple greens had false fronts, which provided optical illusions when attempting to determine distances, while others had some helpful backstops, allowing for more creativity around the greens.

The greens were strategically protected by bunkers, but the course wasn’t overly bunkered. The course was natural looking and looks and plays like it has been there forever.

The course played extremely difficult in the wind. However, even in these conditions, we love this style of golf, and know that the Gunnamatta Course was the absolute right choice for us!

If you want the best, this is the place to go. It isn't cheap but the best never isn't. The course and views are perfect!

A very pretty course with great views out on to Bass Strait. The 'Old Course' is not for the light-hearted with dense scrub never too far offline. If you ever get the chance to play this course, take plenty of spare balls and enjoy the beauty.

Unbelievable golf course, one of the best I have played in my lifetime. Fairways and greens in pristine condition. Great experience put it on your bucket list.

72 hole course and large contemporary club house in a beautiful coastal elevated setting make for an excellent golfing experience. Quaint etiquette, culture, food and regulations mark it as culturally unsophisticated.

Paths to tees are confused and not signposted. Membership fees compell clubhouse expenditure.

Hilly long courses makes for a walking slog.
