The Kingston reviews
46Dined here and ordered several dishes which included complementary bread. The pastel starter was deep fried, very crispy with a nice savoury beef and jalapeno filling; it didn't feel greasy and heavy which was good. The seafood chowder was served in two separate bowls which was kind and considerate as they noted that we were sharing. Soup was not as thick and creamy as I would have liked but it has a pleasant mild seafood taste with a good amount of prawns, mussels and fish. The wagyu pie pastry was flaky and the braised meat was tender but found the red wine flavour was a bit overpowering the beefy taste. Lastly, the beef wellington was served in a timely manner after the initial dishes. The eye fillet was cooked medium rare and tender as expected and the puff pastry was maintained flaky for the most part. Texture was pretty good but flavour wise the prosciutto didn't have the saltiness and the mushroom duxelle just tasted of concentrated earthy mushroom without any herbs, onions and other seasoning.
We have done several important family functions here, and could not recommend The Kingston highly enough. Most recently, my son’s 18th in November was terrific. It was a small group for drinks in the beer garden followed by shared plates indoors. The function arrangements and staff on the day could not have been more helpful, moving the party, from outside to in as the weather changed, keeping us informed how the drinks tab was going for party-goers, accommodating a parents table suitably distant from the young ones, and just overall friendliness and ambience. Food served - a selection of steak sandwiches, shared canapés and sliders, were all delicious, and very generous in serving size. My daughters 18th 3 years ago - a week after lockdown ended- was also terrific. Hold your next family function at the Kingston!
A forever place that has survived the trends by continually evolving and growing. Always wonderful.
Great renovation. We really enjoyed everything and are planning our next big family function here.
We had delicious steaks, sides, and drinks at Marble & Pearl in the Kingston. Our server was knowledgeable and made great recommendations. Everything was cooked to perfection and delicious! (We have dined before outside and food was also great then.) We went early on a Friday so it was quiet. Things started to pick up around 6 and it was getting quite loud by the time we left at 630.
Too damn good! We just got back from 3 months in L. A.and Miami, the Cerviche here was better than we had there, and we eat a lot of cerviche on tour! The Miso Bone Marrow is elevated to a new standard! Smoked Negroni was glorious. Thanks for your work
My close friend and I meet every few weeks at a new pub to catching up over a long lunch so we have been to quite a few. A great pub is something special, and this is a great pub. The atmosphere, the food, the drinks and wine list are exceptional. The staff are kind, light hearted and knowledgeable. If you're looking for a great lunch or dinner to take your friends and family this has to be on top of your list. I honestly cant fault this place.
5 STARS
Amazing experience we loved every moment of been here and loved every item of food and drinks we ordered We will be back again thank you for amazing experience on our anniversary.
A lovely lunch and a great waiter. Really enjoyed our afternoon. Great meal and first class service from Jordan.
Love this pub - delicious food, ice cold beer, classy decor, beautiful outlook onto leafy streets and friendly staff. What more could you want from a local pub? Look forward to our next visit!
We had a fantastic meal at Marble & Pearl, the service was efficient and the food was perfect.
Yummy cocktails! Best Espresso Martini I’ve ever had. I also had the beef burger which was very nice. Fries were mediocre.
Nice inside design. They also have an outdoor area that is very surprising! Can’t wait to come back on a sunny day.
Unassuming venue with a big heart. The cocktails were second to none - inventive and delicious across the board. The food was very good, as was the service.
The menu in the front bar also looked great, and on a nice day the beer garden would be a great place to spend a few hours.
I’m disappointed.
Not because of the food - it was sensational.
Not because of the beer - it was magnificent.
Not because of the service - Laura and Sam were brilliant.
But because I could only give you five stars when you deserved 12.
Do yourself a favour! A must-do whether you’re a local or visiting.
We enjoyed a family catch up at The Kingston and with 9 of us we had limited options available to us but given we wanted a sit down meal had to ask to be relocated from the more casual lounge area we had been assigned to the fancier restaurant out the back. In Doug so we had to squish on a table probably designed for less people so was pretty tight but at least we got a seat. Food was sensational. I had the calamari entree and went with the flounder which was delicious. There was a good wine menu that kept the table happy and service was good. I was impressed by the look of the seafood and beef pies on offer. Chunky thick and delicious looking pastry.
We dined at the Marble and Pearl restaurant at the Kingston Hotel. It was one of the best "fine" dining experiences I have had in a long time. The food was absolutely fabulous, try the Cheesy Mac with Lobster, out of this world. The steaks were delicious. Cooked to perfection. The service we received was exemplary. Didn't have to wait for anything, didn't have to give the waiter a nod for a drink or order. It was beautiful. Will need to save up to go again.
Newly renovated and amazing menu for steaks. A good selection.on par with The station hotel which I also frequent
We had a great time at the Marble & Pearl at The Kingston Hotel. Fantastic, friendly and knowledgeable service from our waiter and the best pie (Wagyu BeefPie) we've ever eaten! On top of that the M&P is a beautifully decorated space. Well done to all concerned.
Had a great night at Marble & Pearl, the new restaurant at the Kingston. Ambiance and service was great and the food was very tasty. There's a good wine list and plenty of beers on tap. Although the restaurant was full and buzzing, the noise level was fine to allow conversation. Well worth a visit.
I had been anticipating trying The Kingston, especially Marble & Pearl since the reopening. I won't be hurrying back. We had a booking at Marble & Pearl. The revamp of the facility is quite nice, and a good atmosphere. The service was mediocre, the steak (a $98 ribeye) was over cooked and actually quite tasteless, lobster tail overcooked and dry. No one came to check on us or our meals until we were finished with our food. No one poured our wine, or offered us another bottle. Plates were cleared, and it took 30 minutes to get dessert menus, and this was after flagging someone down to provide them. I was skeptical that I was paying City Centre prices in Richmond and I was right to be skeptical. If you want to charge premium prices, then offer premium prices and food.
