The Gully Fish Shop

First time trying this store. Just ordered a minimum chips to share.

They were cooked in very old oil. The colour was a dark yellow.
Half the chips were cooked and half were overcooked as if they were placed in the frier at different times.

If they can't cook chips right, I doubt they can cook anything else right.

Have been here a couple of times and is like a traditional fish and chip shop. First time was really good, but the 2nd not quite as good. Maybe the oil was due for a change, but I"ll try again.

Fish beautiful, Great chips, clean n crispy, not covered in salt"unless asked".
Truly that village has a stack of hidden food places, Cafe's, Thai, Chinese (great DimSims), Chicken, Bakery, Florist, Supermarkets (Community Supermarket being Redeveloped) and the good old Gully Fish n Chips. Worth the support and Dollar.

Have been going here on and off for nearly 20 years.
Always been happy with the pricing, quality of food, speed of service snd friendliness of the owners. Please never sell.

Nice clean shop with great takeaway fish & chips, Hamburgers, sovalakis,? Cold drinks & coffee, seating is available.

Nice people but food is awful, we spent over $50 and know one could eat it.
Need fresher oil and fresher souvlaki meat.

One of the better providers in the Ferntree Gully area. They have plenty of options beyond the standard fish and chips. There are some veg options to choose from including a vege burger. Service is quick and you can call ahead to save time.

The absolute worst flake I’ve ever tasted in my life, dry and rubbery, couldn’t even bite through it. Rang up to let them know and was brushed off with “I’ll let the cook know. ” I’ve lived in the area my whole life and now I’ll never return there.

Right next to Ferntree Gully station, the chips are crunchy, not too much batter on the potato cakes, friendly service.

The best old school fish n chip shop in Melbourne by far! I give it 5 stars for flavour quality and price ppl's, "A must try"

Female owner very rude to her staff and was the rude to me, she should change her job.

Crispy fish and potato cakes. But have problems understanding spoken word. When we got home realized they stuffed up our order. Very disappointing.

Wonderful golden fish and chips prepared and cooked to order. Potato cake was outstanding. Open for lunch, dinner or afternoon snack everyday except Tuesday. Staff where friendly and professional. Loved it, would go back.

This is the first time I’ve tried this fish and chip shop. I tried to eat the fish souvlaki but I couldn’t hardly eat the souvlaki.as it was the worst souvlaki I have had.the bread was so tough like cardboard I couldn’t eat it anymore, they don’t use a soft bread like most do.it’s pita bread very tough. The tomato was old tasting too. It wasn’t nice. I called to let them know to see if they wanted to do something about it, instead of writing a review but she just said next time I tell them to not make it so hard.because a lot of people like it hard she said. I never had one like that ever and not sure who likes it like this it was like cardboard but anyway they didn’t offer me a refund or a free souvlaki to see if it would improve with them doing that to make it softer so I’m not risking wasting my money on them and will not return. It’s the worst I have tried in the area and not customer service either.as my issue wasn’t resolved I had no other choice than to write this review to let others know. I would never go to this fish and chip shop again! There’s others in the area much better, so will go to one of those. I would attach pics if I could but it was so bad! I won’t be going back!

The gully fish shop. Where do I begin. Myself and 3 friends ordered “hsp’s” from this shop. We all
Ordered the same, mixed meat with sweet chilli and garlic sauce. We thought 19 clams was a bit outrageous for a hsp but we were hungry, so we paid and went on with our night. We opened these hsps and noticed there was no sweet chilli sauce or cheese, only a garlic/tzatziki hybrid paste smothered all over our charred meat. We were collectively ropable but again we carried on with our meal. To say the least we were all highly disappointed and unfulfilled as no one finished their food. We could only hope that the knoxfield chicken bar across the street opened up on sundays so we never had to deal with this again. Would not recommend

There on Thursday to grab my dinner for my family. I ordered some flake, it 90% batter 10% fish.it has obviously been frozen for some time because it was so dry i could not eat. Not only dry but the fillet was about 3mm thick, not good enough for the price.the asian lady behind the counter was very rude and abrupt. I've since been to the crispy catch near wooleys in ferntree gully and the difference is chalk and cheese. Super fresh juicy fish, clean oil, crunchy batter and was great service and value for money. Reading other reviews I am not on my own with my thought's.it seems this business doesn't care about what customers are saying because they don't change there running of the business. I will not return and neither will my family and friends. Very disappointing

I thought listening to the owners scream at each other was the worst thing that would come ordering from this shop.i was wrong my whole family ended up with gastro from eating their food.

The food was fine, but the customer service was scared! They had argument in front of me, and the lady dumped everything loudly and heavily!

Besides, personally I do not think judging or criticising your customers in front of your other customer is a wise behaviour!

Good luck, but I won’t go back again!

Dry chips and potato cake. Flake was 85% batter and I was overcharged.
You got the second star for the dimmies and chicken salt, hard to ruin that.

Don't know how they're still in business lol. The owners are crazy, the food is poor quality, ingredients aren't fresh and it's always dirty in there.
