Beautiful old house. The food was great. Staff very pleasant. Atmosphere great. Worth a visit.

Last Wednesday my friends and I enjoyed a great day at Gables On Finch celebrating 4 birthdays, food was plentiful and delicious especially loads of jam and cream to go on the scones, not leaving out the macaroons and cakes and everything really, we couldn’t fit it all in!
Hopefully I will be back to enjoy the High Tea again in the future.

We chose Gables on Finch as the venue for our wedding and we are extremely happy that we did so. We were first drawn to the grand old house, which suited our style and felt like us, but we soon found that Gables had everything else we wanted too. The garden was a lovely spot for the ceremony, inside there was plenty of room for our 115 guests. We chose a high tea instead of a formal meal, and everyone loved the food. The house and gardens made for a great backdrop for the photographer, too. The staff on the day were terrific, and the manager Simon, was very helpful in helping us plan the event the way we wanted, while offering useful ideas we hadn't considered. It was a wonderful experience and we highly recommend Gables on Finch.

Thank you to Simon and all his staff who contributed immensely to our fabulous wedding day with a marvellous high Tea, Drew and Pam ️

A pretty average experience, nothing special apart from property. Service was poor and food average “soggy sandwiches”, cold quiches, dense chewy scones. Limited range of Tea and coffees. All in all average experience there are better places to have similar experience which is far better overall experience and service in Melbourne.

I was very sorry to hear that this venue has recently closed. I must disagree with some of the negative reviews below. We had our wedding hosted at The Gables in May 2021. It was an excellent experience - the staff were friendly and helpful, food was top quality and the building itself beautiful. Price was also reasonable. I had some last minute changes, as can happen with weddings, and all were dealt with professionally.

We had previously been for high tea and that was also a great service.

I only wish we reviewed The Gables earlier and maybe kept the doors open a bit longer.

My sister and I took my mum and nanna here for Mother's Day. 3 of us are gluten free. The food was amazing! You wouldn't even know it was gluten free! So fresh, tasty and excellent quality. We thoroughly enjoyed our high tea! And the staff were friendly too.

The Gables is the perfect venue for a memorial service and wake. The staff were all great communicators, flexible and very pleasant to work with. The space was stunning and beautifully set up by the staff. All of the equipment worked really well and we were well supported by the staff when we were setting up. The high-tea was lovely and everyone raved about the quality of the sandwiches. It was comfort to hold such as sad event somewhere so lovely with the support of such great people!

I was upset to hear this business is soon to be closing its doors, but after my experience I understand why the business will no longer operate.
I organised a group high tea & needed to amend our booking numbers. It’s impossible to get through to someone via phone & it seems everything is dealt with (or I soon found out, avoided) via email.
I emailed a handful of times in the lead up to our booking to change numbers & didn’t hear a word back.
I kept calling & finally was able to speak to someone.
The business owner who from the get go raised her voice & was yelling down the line, telling me it was because of “people like me” that her business was closing. I was told multiple times during this call that “I only think about myself”, to “take good look at myself” and that I had quite some nerve asking for a refund for 2 of our guests not being able to make it to our booking.avoiding the fact that & taking no responsibility for the fact that I had tried multiple times in the weeks & days in the lead up to our booking to contact the business.
I would highly recommend avoiding this business for its last few weeks & since reading the other reviews, it seems avoidance of customer service issues are the way they do things at the gables. I’m still shocked by the way I was yelled at on the phone for a good 5 minutes. She might have been having an “off day” but that’s no way to speak to another human, let alone a paying customer.

We had high tea here for mothers day and it was great. The staff were lovely, the food was plentiful and was much better than other high tea experiences I've had at other places like the Windsor and Hyatt and I'm a chef so not that easily pleased. I'm a gluten free vegetarian and they catered for me perfectly with plenty to choose from. And the venue itself is beautiful:) we will be back for sure.

We had the loveliest time at The Gables for Mother's Day yesterday. The food was excellent, the service & staff superb, the venue full of old world charm and overall ambiance lovely. My family & I will be back next year with an even bigger group. I could have not asked for me. Thxs to all.

6 adults attended high tea for my daughter’s birthday. The setting is lovely and the weather was perfect and we enjoyed our time together. However the food was only average and we all agreed “missed the mark”. We are all competent cooks and bakers and discussed how we would improve the food and experience.
We didn’t enjoy waiting at the door and then being herded in with all the other guests.
The tiny size of the champagne glasses and small amount of champagne served in them (glass of French champagne included in the $69 per head) seems like an obvious cost saving measure. A second (tiny) glass of champagne is $14!
The scones were enormous and soft and fluffy, not at all like a scone that I enjoy and we agreed that smaller scones would have been more elegant. The sandwich fillings were predictable and they would have been classier as small club sandwiches. The pie and quiche were adequate but soft.
We thought that serving tea in a coffee plunger at high tea in a beautiful old house instead of a teapot was disappointing and obviously for staff convenience rather than to improve the experience for guests.
The dessert buffet was also disappointing and 3 of our group found nothing that appealed to them. The tall glasses filled with ordinary marshmallows and cheap Easter eggs really were not an appealing addition.
Hope my review helps for you to improve the experience for others.

My wife and I recently got married at the Gables in 2021, this was a venue that we had our eye on and locked down early on so we could save up and have our dream wedding. Covid19 canned our first attempt (we very nearly our second) so you can imagine the stress both we and the vendor went through that time, yet despite all the turmoil caused by those external factors they came through time and time again for us!

The service provided by the staff prior and during the wedding was top notch, the food amazing and the venue itself beautiful.

Highly recommend and once again extend our thanks for the service and effort The Gables provided over the entire period.

Totally Uninterested staff. Had to search for staff when we arrived to find out where our table was after waiting in the foyer. Two of our party didn't drink champagne and asked if they could have an alternative drink. This was given to them and then were charged at the end for these. Had to chase down staff to get milk for our hot drinks. Supposed to be bottomless tea or coffee included. We were all given individual small plungers that only did one and a bit cups. No one came to ask if we wanted anymore. Lovely old home but the high tea was way overpriced. Then when our time was up we were unceremoniously told to leave. We will not be back.

We had our wedding in the Gables.
Such a beautiful venue with so much elegance.
We want to thank Philippa for her outstanding & professional service. She made us feel so comfortable and at ease throughout the entire wedding process. The day wouldn't have gone smoothly without her. I would like to also thank Mish and the waiting staff for their excellent hospitality. Exponentially service! Amazing Venue!

Thank you so much, Gables Team!

Amazing venue, absolutely beautiful. I organised a funeral service there and it was just a perfect place. They also do weddings there. Brings back another era of time. Thank you for all those that were there.
