The Cullen Melbourne - Art Series reviews
55I stay here very regularly, and love everything about it. Rooms are always clean and well stocked fridge & lots of yummy T2 tea. Staff are always so friendly and incredibly helpful. The Gramercy restaurant / bar underneath is great for either dining in or room service. Very quiet and comfortable stay
My favourite hotel in all of Melbourne. First and Only place I've stayed.
Very neat little hotel with art from Adam Cullen. In the heart of Prahran. Thoroughly enjoyed this little spot.
I didn't stay, so i can't reflect on the hotel experience, however i was sat in the diner on two occasions and my experience was incredibly inconsistent. My first experienxe of the day was average, i had asked if i was okay to eat my own food if i was to order a coffee or drinks, and was told this was perfectly fine by thd lady whom served me, i ordered two coffees, for myself and my partner who was with me, and they took incredibly long, so much so that we ended up having to go up to the desk and get them ourselves. Not great. The second experiwnce later in day, still very quiet in the diner, was doing the same thing, i was sat, waiting to be served and instead of being served or attended to for drinks at all, i was approached by another staff member telling me to leave with my food, which i had gained permission for prior, and told to eat outside. I explained that i asked the other staff member as long as i order a drink and she said it was perfectly fine, he responded with a flat no and asked us to leave. Unacceptable service, definitely wouldn't recommend, incredibly inconsistent and clearly not enough communication about procedures between staff.
Art series hotel - have loads of pictures all around, flavored tea and candies around reception. Staff at the reception very helpful.
Cleaning staff very inconsistent - of the 4 days that we lived there, not one day, did the cleaning staff worked it all (bathroom, bed, kitchen).
The neighborhood is cool and hip, loads of places to eat, chill, boutique shops etc. Opposite is the Prahran Market - loved some of the stores there.
Overall okay but not to be repeated.
If you want to treat yourself or a friend to a night’s rest after a special occasion, this is the place to do it. The staff are so lovely and do everything they can to make everything memorable.
Nice room-disappointed items I left in the room were “not located” with no alternative offered
Stella location, clean and modern hotel. The ambiance is only enhanced by the wall to wall raw-bone mule with CSL artwork of Adam Cullen.
I've stayed at the Cullen about 15 times and love the experience. The service, spacious rooms & great location keeps me coming back.
I’d like to think I’m a bit of a regular here. My favourite hotel stay by far! The staff are super friendly and helpful. The cafe & bar downstairs is amazing.
Best service at hotel reception. Even offered to charge my phone while waiting for a friend. Gramacy restaurant downstairs also had great service by such HAPPY people and nice food.
A luxury place to stay. The staff were helpful and friendly. So clean and location was great. Getting to the city was easy the tram was just outside, and had car parking. They have a great little bistro on the ground floor which was super friendly and good quick service. Good atmosphere and I learnt a bit more about art.
Great food loved it. We were there with a group of 4 and the service was excellent eventhough it was lunch hour. Honesty was expecting reasonable service and a good burger but the ones we had were amazing. The chips were also crunchy and had done it with perfection.
We all were extremely happy with the burgers.
Good job guys and will come again.
Great hotel, staff on reception so welcoming and happy, cleaning staff lovely, pillows amazing hopefully get to stay here again on next trip from ireland
The staff are great, very polite and helpful.
This unfortunately is NOT a 5 start hotel in any stretch of the imagination. The bathrooms are minimal and tiny using very entry level cheap fixtures.
The rooms similarly have cheap fixtures, plastic chairs and lamps. What the Hotel has done is use decorative art which is nice - to justify their pricing. You could go to a more traditional hotel and for the same price get a better bathroom and more room.
Very disappointed - other than the staff the location is great but if you are looking for something other than just staying in Prahran and you want 5 star accomodation, these simple shoe box rooms won’t be for you.
It may just be because I'm a young adult from the country, but the frosted glass walls between the toilet and sleeping area were very confronting. I had to kick my room mate out to the balcony every time I wanted to use the loo because it was so awkward. Not sure what design went into that idea but it was very uncomfortable.
The paintings were. Unique. Granted I didn't research the place beforehand so I guess it's my own fault, but Cullen's art made the otherwise gorgeous room very unsettling for myself. I didn't enjoy sleeping under a painting of the KKK or eating underneath a painting of a noose dipped in opium and a malnourished, bloody mule wearing make-up.
Other than the art however, the room was gorgeous and very comfortable. Available cutlery and crockery, as well as basic cooking amenities. No electric kettle made coffee making a chore, but the supplied coffee machine provided boiling water so it wasn't too inconvenient.
Overall once I got over the art my stay was lovely and I would definitely recommend this hotel. Just- do your research first and make sure you and your guests are ok with painted nudity and visual themes of suicide and self harm.
