Tanabe Japanese Restaurant

This is a fantastic little restaurant that serves authentic Japanese food in a small and friendly space. Its vibe is unassuming and had been tastefully decorated, which is refreshing in these days of ultra sterile and pretentious establishments.
But the real highlights are the food and service. The Yellowfin tuna Nori were to die for.

This very good restaurant is my new goto for Japanese food. Each dish we tried was excellent.
The service was first class from all involved.
I can't wait to go back!

I have been a regular customer for a long time and the food is absolutely divine. The service is slow at times because they are busy with take out orders. However the food is too good to deserve a 4 star review so I'm giving it a 5.

Such great authetic and tasty food. Simpe in decor, and very small venuue however excellent sevic and food.

The whole place needs a makeover and needs to lift their game in this day and age. There is no excuse for cold food and fatty meat. Which is a shame because when it's good, it's bloody good!

Best of the best. The food is fantastic and consistent. You visit for the quality of the food and the flavours rather than the decor. We have been dining here for years and love it. A business we will continue to support and we only wish we lived closer to visit more often!

We only ordered entrees which was quite a bit of food plus drink each. We split the cost $35 each. Very impressed with the staff, table service, ambience. The food was delicious

Amazing Pork cutlets crumbed with onion & fruity sauce quiet simply the best entrée i have ever had & the rest was superb. Do yourself a favor.

A very small restaurant beside the pier. It's very hard to notice from the outside due to the dim lights. Food was authentic, seems like everyone here had the sashimi/ sushi boat. It was amazing! High recommend. Staffs were very polite

I have been searching for a good Japanese restaurant since my favourite restaurant had closed down. The food here is good, very authentic. The presentation of food and service is good too. We came on a mid-week but the tables get fill up pretty quickly. Will suggest booking a table.

We have made this time booking for Tuesday night as we have missed it last time. We walked into Tanabe without booking on last occasion to be told it's fully book. So book if you wanted to try this restaurant and their delicious food and lovely, friendly service. We shall be back.

Friendly, hospitable and low key- this restaurant serves authentic fresh cooked Japanese meals from Tempura to Udon. Sashimi of excellent quality too. Highly recommend. Last meals served at 9.30pm

Literally the best Japanese food I've had in the state. Come here if you want to try the best Japanese available in and around Melbourne. Ignore the reviews complaining about EFPOS surcharge and quality of dining room, you come for for the excellent food. Would you rather high quality food or poor food in a fancy dining room?
