Best backpackers in st kilda. Cheap, clean, friendly, private bathrooms in each room. Awesome location. Not far from the st kild main beach. Great views.

Really enjoyed my stay! Staff and other guests were friendly and helpful. Dorm rooms have their own bathrooms and rooms are cleaned every day. Good deals on food and drink in the bar downstairs and there are events on their rooftop bar at the weekend.

Rooms not cleaned, dirty kitchen and staff are not friendly.
And there are crack heads here on drugs.

The room is clear and the toilet is separate for each room. Good hostel, because they keep the COVID rules. We are two people and live in 5-bed room. Nice.

Great customer service and a lovely room for such a great price at the last minute.

I stayed at this Backpackers for quite a while and did over the course had to report a lot of staff misbehaviour and some extremely concerning false allegations.

In order to make me silent from reporting futher the property decide to start retaliating against me in an extremely childish, uncivilised and hatred manner. Hopefully fellow in the higher role of this accomodation who owns travel agency near by understands following a guests while they are cycling though chapel St and spurting water from car screen is uncivilised, childish.

Fellow in higher role of this accomodation who owns black bonz car needs to understand if a guest is cycling and indicates with hand single that he is going to change lane on road on Fitzroy st multiple times - deliberately accelerating the car reflect ignoring the hand signal reflects extremely high level of hatered and childish behaviour.

I strongly recommend guests to be cautious and if you experience anything similar - any such retaliation from the property for reporting misconduct of their staff - to speak out. Do not be fearful. I was visiting Australia. I have lived in various parts of the world for extended periods of time but have never ever encountered such harrowing form of retaliation for reporting breach of law, misconduct. The property needs to understand that discrepancy’s arise but their are legal and civilised manners of dealing with discrepancies.retaliation against a guest in such a childish manner is absolutely immoral, unprofessional and shocking.

I sure do hope that their community elders, their neighbourhood watch group make local law enforcement station aware about this review without any delay. I do hope this review is taken seriously and not ignored.such high level of hatred against a guest is extremely wrong, immoral and concerning

I hope their legal system address such hatred behaviour which they showed me as a guest at the property and later as a former guest since I was in the city for a while. They showed a lot of hatred behaviour, physical harming behaviour to me as a guest at their place and later as a former guest, abusive remarks, lot of stalking while as a guest and later as a former guest. “On Principal “I shall not relinquish from reporting about them. It’s just bad practice to allow scaring behaviour to take over in implication of the law/ rights of an average citizen& consumer. The Fine lines of the law Have to / will be followed.

People with reasonably sound facilities do not do such things. Maybe these people got to be institutionalised by the state for best interest of public. Normal people, reasonably civilised people, people with basic education do not behave in such manner. Actual adults accept their mistakes and provide restitution in a civilised manner. I tell guests do not be fearful or hesitant in reporting misbehaviour / issues with Tax Invoice. I encountered a lot of issues with regards to Tax Invoice of payment of my stay.they got to provide tax invoice immediately/ in a timely fashion for payment of stay.

Property got to know if you poke a bear what does the bear do? - bear kind stuff. Should they try to harm me, stalk me, distract me while I am commuting.being before The Magistrate is very very very delinquent for them

I was visiting Australia and this was my 4th trip. I used to always read in Magazines in my country that Melbourne is the worlds most liveable city and have always enjoyed visiting Melbourne. Some of the overseas staff at this place created my this trip (4th trip to Australia) into an absolute nightmare. Most of the staff at this place are on working holiday visas.
Under Australian Law it is a privilege to enter and stay in Australia. When Department gives a overseas citizen a visa it states Clearly you have to obey all Australian Laws. Additionally as a Human Being you have a fiduciary obligation to act in the best interest of everyone.
Lady who manages the bar really needs to understand - you got to show your condescending and bossy behaviour to someone else. You got to obey Australian Laws even if you are a overseas citizen - do not breach Liquor regulations of the Hostel, when the state had imposed strict restrictions to curb pandemic you do not fall outside law - you have to maintain social distancing, not participate in parties. There was a old fellow who stayed at the property - one day when I visited the Hostel kitchen to dispose some garbage this fellow was intoxicated and tell me - this F*** (my name) keep them downstairs. I had Property mangers permission to dispose parcel boxes under basin so that night warden can collect them. This fellow got to know - you have to stay within the chain of command. Being old does not mean you can verbally abuse another young person. Being overseas old citizen does not mean you fall outside Australian laws.
Property has to know if you employ overseas citizen give them some training about how to behave in Australia and what language is acceptable in Australia. (mentioned clearly in Visa that Overseas Citizens have to follow all Commonwealth Laws). I share some serious behavioural concerns / character concern of a few front desk personnel (new staff since ex manger left) and bar manger which are most on working holiday visas and overseas citizens;
Ex manger who I believe was from Melbourne really used to keep such a positive hostel environment. Property actually you got to employ your own people first and if vacancies “maybe “overseas staff (after giving years of training about how to behave in Australia). Stalking is a very serious criminal offence in Victoria with imprisonment, felony conviction. Stalking / aiding in stalking as a foreign citizen in Australia makes you in contempt of the migration act (Visa Application process clearly states)
I really really hope English representations gives these people pre departure lessons of how to behave overseas, what language is acceptable in Australia. These people make lives of other overseas citizen, locals annoying. They make locals and expatriates day nightmare with bad language and uncultured behaviour

Really kind and fun staff and the manager is always so accommodating and helpful! Super fun vibes at both bars in the building and great people were staying there! Also the location is ideal! Just minutes away from the beach, Luna Park, and acland street.

Fellow who owns the travel agency next door and is related to the Higher role of this accomodation was extremely irritable always during my stay, especially when I used to visit front desk to collect parcels and he used to sit there. Fellow got to understand that spurting water from car screen when a guest is out cycling on chapel st very very close to famous juice shop reflects extremely kiddish behaviour with extremely high level of hatred. He presumed I would not get aware he did it. I do hope that State Highway petrol try to make this guy understand about the adverse consequences of such behaviour on his personal record.

Fellow who owns black Benz car got to understand that deliberately accelerating car when when guest indicates with hand signal clear intention to change lane - at an extremely tricky spot - downhill at Fitzroy & grey, multiple times on Fitzroy St reflect an extremely high level of hatred. He used to go often later towards the direction of the church. Maybe the pastor can give him some wisdom that such conduct is extremely bad. I strongly recommend cyclists to double check before changing lanes.

I strong recommend guests to stand by the truth, stand by your side, don’t feel alone, don’t feel scared.you are dealing with people who when they are wrong - to conceal their wrong doings / breach of law / misconduct shall go to extreme lengths - harass, try to scare you by retaliating with physical harm, use abusive language - but stand by the truth. These are bullies who like taking advantage of debilitated people, solo travellers - they gang up and make you feel weak so that you relinquish. But at the end of the day - they can show their macho behaviour only in front of you. They’ll become ants in front of The Magistrate.

They got to understand should they wish to continue such conduct of retaliating against a former guest / stalk / deliberately come close to me when I made payment at gas station / follow me near beach - HAVE AT IT. My religion is so strong even a slight harm comes near me I have an instant impermeable membrane of protection formed around me. Ill be relentless in reporting misconduct of their staff and the broad breach of law during the course of my stay.

I have noticed a pattern -

1.both fellows in higher role of this accomodation who used to distract guest while guest cycling outside
2. Couple and young who used to stalk when guest was outside - actually couple you did it for a quite a good length of time.
3. Staff who deliberately swirled the rope of the vacuum cleaner so that guest gets trapped in it and fall and suffer severe injury
4. Staff who directed abusive remarks to guest when guest reported to the property that guest was given less change back after making a payment.where all white skinned.

I do hope foreign consulates make note of this review. I was visiting Australia and stayed at this property for a while - and have lived in various parts of the world. I have never ever encountered such a harrowing level of retaliation (scaring me with physical harm) for reporting misconduct/ civil disputes. I do share some extreme level of concern about my physical safety off lately. I hope foreign consulates try to intervene so that their citizens are not retaliated in such a manner. We are not their slaves to tolerate being abused and remain quite.

I stayed at this property for quite a while during the pandemic. I was visiting Australia. Almost all their staff personnel are overseas citizens working on a working Holiday visa. Under Australian Law entering and remaining in Australia is a Privilege. The visa strictly reads that while in Australia the Visa Holder “ HAS” to abide by “ All Australian Laws”.

When their state had imposed the strict restrictions to prevent the spread of the pandemic these staff (almost all their staff are working holidays visa holders) engaged in parties and blatantly disobeyed the public health guidelines.

Under Australian Migration law it is against the law to stalk as a foreign citizen (maybe guy understands coming to study English here.dont do that.do not interfere in other foreign citizens lives, do not stalk on another foreign citizen.)

Staff who swirled rope when guest was passing by aisle with the intention that the guest falls and suffers severe injury, staff who directed abusive remarks to guest when guest mentioned that guest was given less $change back from property, cook staff who used to breach Hostel fire regulations, lady who manages the bar who herself used to disobey liquor regulations and state Covid 19 regulations, old fellow who used remarks of this f**** (my name) when I visited kitchen to dispose garbage, staff who used to breach the councils regulations by smoking in balconies - maybe English representation addresses their behaviour. I recollect when I was in kiwiland a while ago some of their people had created unnecessary havoc. These staff think that they can boss on other overseas citizens, break local laws, blatantly breach the states Covid 19 regulations.

Every citizen (I was visiting Australia) has a fiduciary responsibility. I really hope their community elders for the best interest of their community address such behaviour.

During my stay at the property in order to relinquish me from reporting misconduct and harrowing breach of state laws property sends undercover people to stalk on me, to follow me when I’m outside

A fellow in the board role of this accomodation who -when I used to cycle used to follow me in car. When I indicate to change lanes on road this guy deliberately accelerates his car ignoring the hand signal!

Stalking is a criminal offence in the victoria. Hopefully young fellow who occasionally used to visit the hostel and occasionally sit at the reception gets a lawyer to explain about stalking - your not cool by stalking, deliberately following a “former” guest in gas station and deliberately coming close while they make payment.trying to come close to them When they where in premise deliberately.

Couple got to get some education from a lawyer about stalking.couple when removing former chef - yelling in such manner by visiting chef room is uncivilised.

With regards to Tax Invoice on making a cash or card payment a tax Invoice is not given immediately. It takes 2-3 days for a tax Invoice to be processed. I was often told that there is some issues with the system, multiple times. On multiple occasions I was told that the tax Invoice was already been sent, haven’t u received it yet? This statement was made multiple times. This statement never turned out to be true since I had never received the tax Invoice when this statement was made by them - that’s why I had to follow up. This makes me question the legitimacy of the statement.

Additionally on one day of my stay there was a staff member who had a vacuum cleaner with him and was in the aisle of the corridor. I was passing by the aisle of the corridor and the cable of the vacuum cleaner was spread all across the floor - and while I was passing by this guy deliberately swirls the rope of the vacuum cleaner so that I get trapped in the rope and fall down. Luckily by my religions power I could swiftly change movement to avoid getting trapped and suffer serious injury. When this was reported to the management they where in massive denial that their staff could do such and never followed up.

It was advertised in-house that their staff personnel had undergone specialised training to operate a hospitality business during this pandemic. Unfortunately even basic safety protocols such as social distancing where not adhered by staff themselves- they themselves used to organise dinner parties during the peak of the restrictions with absolute breach of most safety protocols such as social distancing, gathering numbers. There was massive Misrepresentation, Deceptive Advertisement which breaches State Consumer Laws.

Most interactions between guests and the property are shared and gossiped with other non staff people / long term residents so there is massive massive breaches of Privacy laws.

Hopefully the state law enforcement and office of the Attorney General make note.
