Summer House Melbourne reviews
33Amazing hostel! Rooms are great, spacious and have fantastic air con. They have a lovely rooftop which overlooks St Kilda. Plus a really nice bar attached that is nicely priced for backpackers.
Best Hostel in Melbourne. Clean Rooms. Rooms were comfy. 10min to the best beach. Good prices in comparison.
Very very nice staff. Authentic people. Kitchen was great to socialise.
If you're a backpacker looking for a nice hostel where it's really easy to get to know people, where the atmosphere is fun and cozy and where the staff genuinely try to solve problems and make your stay comfortable, choose Summer House Melbourne
The location is great in St Kilda, the prices of the bar/restaurant downstairs are really cheap for hostel guests and it's easy to get to know others at the bar, for example during the weekly trivia or karaoke. And if you want to do more than party, this is the best hostel in Melbourne for that: they organize various sports activities, free pizza nights, movie nights, hanging out on the roof terrace or picnic ect. AND on Sundays some of the best hostel pancakes with good toppings!
The kitchen is medium-sized, but it's actually much better than a large kitchen, because it's natural to get to know others when eating and cooking together vs.everyone sitting separately at their own table. The reception is open 24/7, so arriving at any time is possible and help is always available. So I really recommend this place ️
When I moved to other hostels, I really realized how special the atmosphere is in this hostel.
Each room has its own bathroom which was awesome! There are sockets near the beds, the lockers could hold a lot of stuff and the rooms had a lot of space compared to many other hostels! The housekeepers also clean all the rooms and bathrooms every day, so the rooms were kept tidy, (of course it was the customers’ responsibility to keep their own things tidy!) and you could be sure that you would have clean sheets because the housekeepers did a really good job.
The building is not the newest, so you can't expect the same as newly built hostels, but everywhere is still clean and the places are taken care of! The vibe, other hostel customers, the size of the rooms, the bathrooms, activities, rooftop and friendly staff are the main reasons why I ended up staying in this hostel for several months, because the others I tested were just not as comfortable and homely?
I stayed in summerhouse Melbourne for about 2 months and absolutely loved it! The staff are super helpful and friendly. The rooms are big and are cleaned daily which is always appreciated. There is a bar downstairs that has a nice atmosphere and good drinks. Friendly hostel and super close to the beach. I would recommend as a solo traveller.
One of the best hostels I've been to! If you want to find a good community, Summer House is the place! I spent more than a month here and had a great time, lots of activities and nice people!
If you’re looking for a decent hostel in Melbourne, look no further! Summerhouse is perfectly located in the heart of St Kilda, so ideal for beach loving people who don’t want to be surrounded by the hustle & bustle of the CBD, yet the atmosphere is very vibrant and public transport to the center are just on the doorstep. It has the perfect balance between social activities and chill vibes and therefore it’s not a 24hour party place, so you can easily reside here while having a job. However if you feel like going for a bevvy or two, the Barkly next door is a really nice European style pub with delicious meals & very cheap drinks when you’re a hostel guest: D I absolutely loved my stay here and would go back in a heartbeat <3
I have been at Summer House Backpackers for 3 months now and it has been none stop love and laughter! Summer House has provided me with a job and the reception staff have allowed me to move rooms so I can be with my friends and much more comfortable. Summer House is super clean, sociable and has lots of weekly activities to join in with. My time here has been so enjoyable and it has been my favourite hostel so far in Australia! Thank you so much to the team for making me feel so welcome
Cheap price. Nice clean rooms and bed. The location for airport skybus drop off and pick up is literally right outside the door.
This hostel has the worst customer service I've seen so far. There was a lack of communication between the staff which made our stay complicated and the manager had an attitude with us which is very inappropriate. They were not helpful at all and even made me uncomfortable to ask for anything. I would definitely recommend to stay somewhere else.
Best hostel in Melbourne. Defo stay here. Staff are helpful, everyone staying is social & rooms are great
Absolutely terrible, nothing is working well in the room. (No air con, no light, no body wash, no housekeeping) The most terrible thing is the private party going on until the next day, the guest can’t even go, but you paid for a room makes you cannot sleep. The accommodation is worse experience ever in Australia.
Horrible experience. They are allowing people to check in middle of the night and knocking the dormitories disturbing others sleep. The smell of the place totally ruined my day. There is no proper ventilation, light. They don’t even clean the room properly.
The worst place I have ever stayed. And they are not responding back for the deposit refund. This place is total scam.
Room was DIRTY.
I understand it’s bcz of the people who live there, but man. The room smelled like mixing dead fish, smelly feet and alcohol. The club downstairs shaked my bed kinda loud. The guy lives in the room they don’t even close the toilet door when they are using it. OH MY GOD. The staff was very helpful, facilities are very prepared and all, good water pressure. But please, choose room wisely.
Very friendly staff, the rooms are actually quite big and the location is very good as well. I particularly appreciated the kitchen because it was clean and well equipped.
Music is so ridiculously loud it cancels out any positives. Every single night. Unbearable to the point of not being able to get anything that resembles sleep. And I've stayed in countless hostels. Awful.
Very kind and helpful staff!
Facilities clean and modern!
Stayed for 2 months without any issues!
Amazing Hostel!
Exceptional Staff and Establishment:
Most friendly and helpful receptionist ever, so lovely and great first impression of hostel.
Really good breakfast. Close Proximity to Melbourne CBD.
The room was clean and quiet, with an excellent shower.what you really get is tranquillity and excitement rolled into one!
Great Air con and heater in private rooms and dorm rooms
On the premise very clean grounds,
housekeeping service is great.
Lots of information brochures available to all local attractions,
and of course friendly knowledgeable staff.
Staff are really helpful. Rooms are spacious and clean and have comfortable beds. Full functional kitchen with enough pots and pans to make your breakfast. Enjoyed our stay with friends and families.
Entertainment:
Hotel Barkly public bar is home to some great entertainment, including trivia nights and food and drink specials throughout the week. There are Summer Sunday Sessions with live music/DJs on the beautiful rooftop, overlooking St Kilda. Make sure to ask at reception for details on the night's entertainment.
(Hotel Barkly Public Bar located on premise! And private function rooftop bar for elegant evenings, or a fun night out with friends)

Exceptional!
Place is great, reception are nice, close to a few of St. Kildas many bars and hotels, perfect distance from the beach and Luna Park, which was the fullest it's been since before lockdown this week, will always find parking, close to a huge and probably one of the nicest Woolies you've been in. I've only ever come around St. Kilda for work but currently staying at this place till I find a more permanent place here in St. Kilda. Love it
The rooms have ensuite bathrooms, daily cleaning by really friendly staff and we were warmly welcomed on reception even though we didn't arrive until 10pm. The bar next door was good fun too and you get discount on drinks for staying here. Good value for money and really close to the trams to get to the city. Would definitely recommend
Good Hostel. Good Management (Michaela). Rooms are kept Clean. Will stay again.
See you next time
