Studfield dumpling house reviews
29 Being a chef for almost 20 years in many cuisines, including Chinese, I believe i have great knowledge of good food and even better, the chefs respect for food when I eat out, and this is one of them!
Being a previous business owner myself, I know it can be tough so I like to help out local businesses that deserve the credit for doing things well. So I'm writing this review.
My wife, being Chinese, is fussy when it comes to Asian food outlets but we decided to try one of our local eateries with some friends, Studfield Dumpling House, especially after seeing how busy this place can get for lunch and dinner most days of the week.
We arrived at 6: 30PM on Monday night. Most tables were full which we expected, but accommodated us promptly which was great.
The place is clean, service is great which is a must for me.
Menu selection is fantastic for the pricing to size ratio with a lot of dishes on offer from your traditional, what to expect dishes eg. Lemon chicken, wonton soup to the more out there fried pork intestines with chilli, which is actually worth a try if your game enough.
The standout here, as the name suggests, are the dumplings. Wow! Wow! Wow. Nothing more to say. Really, as good as it gets. A MUST TRY!
So we tried a few dishes.
1. Pan-fried pork dumplings -
Amazing in every way, thin skin, perfectly flavoured filling.
2. Spring onion pancake -
Tried at a lot of places. Most places pan fry these guys deep-fry but not oily what so ever. Best way to explain the taste, savory doughnut with hints of saltiness and spring onions.
3. Braised beef brisket with potato -
Rich sauce with complex flavours, definitely slow cooked and extremely tender beef chunks with background flavour of Chinese five spice.
4. Fish fillets in pickle broth -
Good flavoured fish soup, absolutely huge serving, with bean shoots, szechuan peppercorns, coriander, pickled mustard greens, pickled green chilli. Little bit of spice, great for sharing.
5. Fried pork ribs with chilli and garlic -
This was my fav dish of the night. Not for the faint of heart, when it says chilli. IT'S GOT CHILLI. This dish was spicy, I like spicy food, this made me sweat, could have been
because it was fairly humid that day but was worth the sweat. Extremely crunchy coating, tender pork in the middle, salty little chunks of fried shallots. The pork was coated in maybe a curry or turmeric seasoning before coating and frying. Must be the chefs secret. Never seen before. Great flavour.
6. Stir-fried veg selection with tofu -
Just a standard dish, as what you would expect from most Chinese restaurants.
Overall, great experience for local Asian cuisine. Attention to detail was consistent even during a busy service period, which in my experience usually causes chefs to take shortcuts to get the food out on time. Didn't happen here. All food was out within 20 minutes. Definitely worth a try
Best Chinese restaurant in this area, good taste, value price, nice service, definitely will come back!
The place is clean service ok foods average a bit on the salty side cheap nothing to get excited about the place.
Absolutely brilliant and unexpected from what looks like a typical Chinese cafe. Very good quality food, snappy service and very reasonably priced. A lucky find, and I would go out of my way to try it again.
Visited twice, first visit was great. However, during our lunch today, we noticed a small stick in my daughter's noodle soup.
Excellent food. (We dined in)
Best I’ve had this side of Box Hill. Probably some of the best dumplings and Chinese I’ve had in all of the Eastern Suburbs.
A quaint little restaurant in Studfield Shopping precinct. Very clean and attentive staff and food is usually very delicious. I have been couple of times and find their food very consistent. Their dumplings are good but could be better and juicier. However, their simple vegetable or mixed fried rice is amazing. Another dish which is my absolute favourite is "Stir fried chicken with chilli & pepper". It's spicy and loaded with flavour, only downside being has quite a bit of MSG to bring out that taste. I know many are reluctant to try msg and even I used to avoid until when I realised that there is no evidence of research to conclude msg is harmful. So go for it.
Loaded with msg was not told have spent my night in the toilet with violent where are. It was discusting food got thrown out but sadly ate to much before it effected me. This place needs to be closed down before they kill someone with allergic reactions to MSG PEOPLE PLEASE STAY AWAY YOU DONT GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR ALL IT DOES IS COST YOU EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF TOILET PAPER AND PANADOL. WILL BE RINGING FOOD AUTHRIOTIES ASAP
Worst customer service ever.
Entitled staff that and dumplings worthless even if it was free.
Do not support a business that treat customers like “Dumblings”
