Station Street IGA reviews
42Get around IGA in about 5 mins! Good deli, great veggies, all the basics, none of the plastic excess. Local and I know IGA supports country businesses.
Went in today looking for pancetta and a lovely lady working at the Deli took time to ask me what I was making and help me select the right cut. She didn't have to but she went above and beyond. I wish I had caught her name.
Why are the people working the checkout so rude? It’s the second time I’ve come here and the service was awful
Hi IGA Fairfield,
I am writing this review in support of your local community that include the ‘loiterers’ sitting outside your shops, that likely do not have access to the resources to take a public stand on your recent notice displayed at the registers.
“PLEASE DO NOT FEED OR GIVE YOUR MONEY TO THE LOITERERS SITTING OUTSIDE. THEY ARE NOT HOMELESS. THEY ARE USING YOUR MONEY TO BUY DRUGS AND ALCOHOL AND ARE CAUSING A NUISANCE FOR ALL CUSTOMERS AND STAFF THAT HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT. THEY ARE DRIVING AWAY CUSTOMERS AND SCARING SCHOOL CHILDREN.
THE POLICE HAVE ADVISED US TO CREATE THIS SIGN AND ASK FOR YOUR HELP AS A COMMUNITY. PLEASE DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY. PLEASE OFFER YOUR SUPPORT IN OTHER WAYS.
Perhaps a more helpful approach would be to list some of the ‘other ways’ that members of your community could benefit from assistance. Maybe sit down and ask what support would be helpful to them. Perhaps an employment opportunity? Perhaps some understanding that sustaining a job is not possible for everyone?
I do love this local suoermarket with a great deli. Through no fault of their own it has too many beggers and fund raisers out the front.
Hi IGA Fairfield,
I am a local customer that has been coming to your store for years. Going through your register today, I was shocked to see a sign stating the following;
The stigmatising language in this letter is extremely problematic and I urge you to reconsider displaying it. Those who choose to ask for money in a public space do so because they are being forced to live under the poverty line due to an underfunded and overly complicated/difficult social security system and/or because they are longing for a sense of community and connection, which they receive in the brief interactions and conversations that come with a passer-by giving them money or offering some other kind of material aid or support.
We have no way of knowing what someone will do with any money gifted to them; it’s a harmful stigma to assume it will be used for “drugs and alcohol”. And in the events that money gifted is used to purchase alcohol or other substances; this is a reflection of other adverse and intertwined experiences, such as poor mental health, homelessness, trauma, family violence etc. Addiction rarely stands on its own.
I’m really disappointed that a business that promotes such a community focus would display such a harmful message. I understand from the poster that Victorian Police requested you do this; please feel free to pass on this feedback to whoever your liaison is.
Love these guys. Friendly, professional and always my first port of call when I need something. A little dearer than the bigger chains, but I'm happy to pay the extra to support local.
Locally it's convenient but extremely overpriced, l
Good for emergencies or no time to travel to Woolies, Coles, or Aldi.
I shopped here yesterday and they had items on special that were out of their best before date like things from 2022 and a couple of items on the shelf that looked they had been there for ages, i’d rather go to the coles down separation street.
Was really busy at lunch and prices are higher compared to other stores. But good solution for last min shop
Incredibly unhelpful with sour product would not consider an exchange or refund at all. Actually told me to take it back to the dairy! Pitiful management.
A standard IGA, a little cleaner than most with a lot of variety and different foods from the big 2.
Staff are always friendly and helpful. Parking is a little hard but easy if you are prepared to walk a little way.
I don't usually write reviews but I'll make an exception this time because the lady who just served my kids was rude, just because they only brought a plastic bag doesn't mean they deserve a pew as she stuck her nose up.
Very good IGA. Has most of your essential products in stock, doesn't take very long to be served. Staff are very friendly here as well, it is a little understaffed.
Great little supermarket, great staff but it's quite terrifying half the staff don't wear masks whilst in the store all day whilst there is no enforcement of customers wearing masks or scanning upon entry either. This can create a viral load and I've seen many elderly shop at this store. Obviously it's hard to reason with someone that refuses to wear a mask for five minutes whilst shopping because they believe they are a modern day freedom fighter.
Locally it's convenient but extremely overpriced, staff don't wear masks properly, sanitiser and check-ins aren't enforced.
Good for emergencies or when not well enough to travel to Woolies, Coles, or Aldi
Pretty good supermarket though it always looks dark and dingy. Some of the prices are way too high, otherwise it is a good convenient place to go.
Good alternative to the bigger supermarkets as it is very easy to park and pick up a few items.
Oddly likeable place with very friendly deli staff and cashiers, as well as decent fruit and veg selection. Terrific opening hours too. It's the best general grocery on Station St, and you have a lot of other shops nearby for specialty needs. Over time, I've started to prefer this to Coles, despite its slightly higher prices.
My Go-To dash in - dash out.
For when I'm too tired to go to either Coles or Woolies or I've forgotten something.
