St Andrews Beach Golf Course reviews
42Just played the hardest 18 of my golfing career. Course is in amazing condition. Very challenging for high handicapper, bring more balls than you’d think.
Food is great but finding a place to sit is a bit all over the place. The place doesn't take bookings for smaller crowds. But the coffee and pizza was fantastic.
I was a little disappointed that the practice area was out of action due to works being conducted, but the course was in excellent condition. From Tee to green, fantastic.
I played at St Andrew’s recently after pre-booking for 4 players at the cost of $420.
We retired after 3 holes due to the wind/rain and unplayable conditions particularly with no rain covers on carts to keep our clubs/equipment dry.
We also spent money on rain jackets, balls, caps, shirts, coffee, food, in total we spent approximately $600.
After returning to the club house I was greeted by an arrogant male who I explained to that we couldn’t continue and is it possible to get a credit to return. He laughed and rudely told me that they don’t give credits as it was still playable. Moona Links next door closed at the same time due to the conditions.
We booked this for a mates Birthday who lives locally but we certainly wouldn’t recommend playing here and to try at another course. The attitude of the management is very poor as I have not received a response from several emails.
We are part of a large network of golf courses and businesses and we definitely will not be recommending this place which is a shame for other hard working staff who are obviously directed by the management/owners.
Fantastic course, so challenging and superbly maintained. A real golfers delight hidden away on the peninsula. Just needs some sort of practice facilities, a range & new clubhouse and they’d be no reason to ever leave! Oh, and the Kangaroos like to swing by fairly regularly too!
Just played a 5 hr 30m round here!
Good course but they jam people on to make max dollars. Course marshall ineffective. Their ad says they care about golf, not as far as I could see!
Challenging course. Take an extra 20 balls. Not the best in this part of Vic. Overpowered gas carts on blind single lane tracks. Unsighted tee off locations in places were slices from other tees are possible. Poorly designed course with cart access as an afterthought.
My favourite place to play. Rating has increased substantially over the last 10 years but it’s still underrated.
Great course, super challenging for a social golfer like myself but a laugh nonetheless - make sure you hire a cart!
Fantastic golf course for the average player. Great layout, but the best thing - it’s forgiving off the tee box
Great course design with the best fairway lies of any fairways I've played, some long par 4's mixed with some short par 4's, par 3's all great holes, only 1 hole 426m into the wind too long, enjoyed every moment.
No money invested to maintain this course for decades. Would get better lies on your nature strip. Avoid.
Course design, signage, and amenities not worth the price paying, similar price with the Dunes but the experience is not even on the same level
Awesome course. Now my new favourite golf course around the Peninsula. Staff were not that friendly though and bit uptight, only thing preventing me from rating this 5 stars.
Great links course with very challenging greens! Well deserved ranking in top 100 courses throughout Australia.
Located on the Mornington Peninsula an hour and a half south of Melbourne, St Andrews Beach is Tom Doak’s first effort in Australia. The front nine is a wonderful and engaging ride with a links design and feel while the back nine is there to test your merit. Like so many of the great courses in Australia, St Andrews Beach is highlighted by its short par fours and the risk/reward element that comes with it. In high winds the fairways are generous enough to still hit but your skill will be tested on the approach shots where the sloping edges are quick to shed off shots that aren’t spot on. When you miss the green you’ll likely be in a bunker or on short grass where you’ll need to pinch a wedge off a tight lie or simply pull out your putter and roll it across the fairway apron and onto the putting surface. While some courses on the famous Melbourne Sandbelt are routed on flat terrain, going south to the Mornington Peninsula guarantees you’ll get to enjoy undulated ground with St Andrews Beach laying along nicely rolling earth that is engaging to play golf on while still lending itself to walking. Conditioning isn’t as impressive as the clubs in Melbourne but is certainly good enough to not detract from the enjoyment of the round. Power carts are available to take for players that prefer not to walk and the modest clubhouse offers logo gear and food. If you’ve come to Australia to see a kangaroo (or the smaller wallabies) then St Andrews Beach is quick to please you as they are commonly found bounding along the property with the early morning and evenings being the prime time for them to be out and about.
Excellent course with a natural layout, excellent greens fairways and not overly hard as some Links courses tend to be. Although a great course, over $200 for two rounds, a cart and competition fees, I did feel it was slightly overpriced for a Monday - about 160-180 would be fairer, especially considering the lack of a clubhouse or amenities.
I was quite disappointed with the service by the professionals - they were disinterested, talking amongst themselves and unhelpful, and stuck me and my playing partner behind a large corporate group who were slowish.
We later grouped with a second twosome behind us on about the third hole - something that the pros should have organised instead of directing us to figure it out ourselves with strangers. Finally, I was rudely spoken to by the older male pro when I asked if a putter cover had been handed in. With no clubhouse or amenities, this course is one you simply play and move on.
Sensational course. The elevated tees make this course something special. Just played moonah links, the dunes and st Andrews beach and this was my favorite.
Excellent links style golf course. Nice wide fairways, fast greens and undulating grounds. Wonderful service. A great day out
Wonderful course. Played on a day after very heavy rainfall but it pulled up wonderfully well. Uses the contours of the land to make for some fascinating hole design. Wide fairways means you can grip and rip with confidence.
The clubhouse facilities do not compare to some of its more illustrious neighbours (think Moonah Links and the Dunes) and hence cost it the final star in my mind but if you're ok with that then definitely worth the trip.
The trip back from the 18th to the pro shop could also do with a little better signage.
