Spring Street Grocer reviews
64The produce here is on point, all high quality. You certainly pay for it, but you know everything here is the real deal - versus say a deli at the Vic Market which can be hit and miss. The cheese room is a must visit, this is guaranteed great cheese, and doing specialty imports from around the world. The gelato parlor makes for a nice visit although certainly not the best in town, but great for a scoop as you stroll along Spring Street.
Awful coffee.
I had a soy cappuccino at this place, the regular size one was $5.29, but it was not even a full cup and tasted awful, bitter and weird.
Waited after being told just a sec guys, the the y get distracted by someone that seems to be a friend that just walks in. Then proceeds to front counter to serve another person who just came.
The most delicious and sensuous gelato flavour I have had for a long time - goats cheese with cinnamon and crunchy walnuts, perfect! The waffle cone was light and not too sweet, matched the semi-savoury smoothness of the gelato beautifully. Excellent friendly service too, thank you!
I regularly visit this treasure of a shop most times when I’m in the city. You’ll find a mix fresh produce and wonderful products that are so good and simply stunning. Last week I placed my first online order with these guys and my order was hand delivered by one of the beautiful staff members there! We had purchased a range of the fresh ready meals and had their “marinara mix” for dinner at home that evening. It full to the brim with fresh mussels, pipis, rockling and large prawns! I added the mix to some spaghetti and finished the dish of with garlic oil, chilli plus a whole bunch of parsley and a dash of white wine. This was delicious. I can’t go past their famous Pistachio ice cream either!
They have a small range of produce available as well as a selection of drinks and other condiments. It's the closest cafe in proximity to parliament station as well so that is good. Do be aware though that they are certainly not cheap.
Served raw chicken. Ate some was definitely raw. Complained to the staff the cook denied it even though it was clearly uncooked.
The cheese tasting was fantastic, I wish we came for the full tasting but had a small one which was educational and incredibly tasty.
Very long wait times. Have waited 20-45mins for a sandwich (the 45 mins lunchtime was simple dreadful). Although sandwiches/rolls etc cab be very nice, they alsi syffer quality control issues in terms on portion size. Quite expensive. Main issue is the wait times make this difficult as a lunch destination.
Great place for cheese! Would very much recommend getting the $20 cheese platter especially if you don't know what cheese you would like to take home with you. They also have gelato, coffee, cold pressed juices, dairy free smoothies and a range of artisan foods. The cheese is sold in the cellar/ basement, the entry to the cheese cellar is via a small spiral staircase so unfortunately there is no wheelchair access to this area.
I come here on a regular basis. I'd like to say it's for all the fresh organic fruit and vege, but usually it's to stock up on cheese from downstairs, a scoop of gelati or a fresh cold pressed veggie juice.
If you need high-end pantry items, fancy chocolate gifts or maybe some ready-made meals to warm up and plate at home, then make a visit to Spring Street Grocer. Grab a bunch of flowers and pop next door for a bottle of wine and hey presto - dinner is served and your favourite +1 will think you're the best.
The affinage in the basement makes this a must visit in Melbourne. A lot of unique items in the store, good food and very good gelato make it worth the visit. But the affinage makes it a must visit.
This place refused my blind partner and his guide dog into the cheese cellar when we wanted to experience their cheese platter
Loved the meatball sandwich but doesn't have much seating, portions are small and the wait time is long.
The most amazing cheese cellar. Great variety and good value for money. Victor is a gem and makes the experience wonderful.
My wife ordered two takeaway coffees, a latte and a capaccino. When we sat down to drink them, all they tasted of was luke warm milk - very disappointing and we'll not be going back.
I visited there in November, 2018. The pistachio gelato tasted AMAZING! I loved it! I talked to a woman making cheese in the underground space, she was so nice:)
All the workers were friendly. Definately recommended. Get gelato 100%.
Every cheese lovers haven. Great selection of cheeses, cured meats and everything else you need for your cheese platter.
And some great wines next door to pair it with.
This place makes some of the best gelati in Melbourne IMHO. Flavours change daily - go try some!
Love the cheese room in this place! You get to try before you buy all the cheeses. I esp like their truffle cheese and their oh-so-creamy traditionalbrie. The prices do add up though which is painful when you pay for it at the end. Also their other groceries there is somewhat pricey.
