Southall reviews
60Missed these guys since their Bombay By Night days in Caulfield - but we put that right at their new Hampton venue tonight. Simply awesome and hands down the best Indian I've had in my 20 years in Australia. Just couldn't fault it.and I'm not a lame judge. We'll be back.
The Naan Gruyère special was one of the best starters I’ve ever had, and curries were authentic and delicious.
Travelling from interstate, and our friends said we must try this restaurant. They were right, the food was absolutely delicious! Authentic curries & generous servings. Also friendly staff, who made the experience even better. We will be back.
We had dinner at Southall last night which was an elegant Indian restaurant with pleasant decor and ambiance. Food wise it was a British interpretation of the cuisine which was tasty but definitely more expensive than your average curry house (though I suppose you are paying for the setting). Overall I enjoyed the meal but probably won’t rush back there
Older women who works there was the rudest and most unhelpful person in the hospitality industry I have ever met.
Intimate, well decorated space with great food that left a lasting impression.potentially the best Indian I have ever had. Staff both friendly and attentive, can’t fault my experience in the slightest
Delicious Indian food and fantastic service. Everyone working there was so nice and the artwork and atmosphere in the restaurant was awesome. Can especially recommend the lamb korma and the delicious bread.
The dinner was okay although lacked in flavour and the waiter was nice but unfortunately the woman (who I think owed the place as she was referring to the waiter as her son) felt the need to comment on my body and said question my decision to put art on it. I felt extremely uncomfortable as she kept asking me “why would you do that? ” And giving me a disgusted look. No one has the right to comment on what another does with their body.
Amazing place to satisfy your Indian food craving. The food is very authentic and the flavours are well balanced. I found my go to place for Indian food and there are going to be multiple visits by me to explore more of their menu.
Without doubt, our favourite Indian food in Melbourne. So delicious! The experience is made all the more enjoyable by the lovely, friendly staff. Can’t wait to go back again.
Southall is without doubt the best proper British style Indian in Melbourne. Unlike others they properly grill chicken breast in the tandor oven rather than chucking in gammy thighs. The menu is bang on from madras to Tkka masala to vindaloo. It’s a real friendly family run place and is our absolute go to for a decent ruby murray x
Great authentic cuisine. Happened upon this place by accident after skipping over a few Indian venues and it was just what we were after. Friendly and warm atmosphere plus many unique menu options with amazing flavours that created a wonderfully aromatic experience. Staff were good humoured, welcoming and passionate.
An intimate space with incredibly tasty food; great service and value. Family friendly. Thank you!
Our favourite Indian; the dishes taste perfect, never too heavy and never spicy for the sake out. The breads are off the chart, I think the best naan ever! We’ve had great service for dine in and take away!
The lamb biriyani and the chicken curry we had were both perfect. The place is super cute with a great ambience and friendly team.
Wow, I visited Southall for the first time tonight and seriously can not recommend this place enough! The restaurants aesthetic and atmosphere is super warm and inviting. The service was very quick and the food is seriously delicious (easily one of the best meals I’ve ever had). I also have to mention, the owner of the restaurant Ravnish is so kind, his hospitality and recommendations definitely made our experience even lovelier. I can’t wait to come back and try more amazing food.
This place is a hidden gem. The nicest Indian I have had in Melbourne. We had a vegetarian curry and a chicken tikka Masala and both were absolutely delicious. Great portion sizes too and the restaurant has a lovely, non pretentious atmosphere. Great service too. We will definitely return. Highly recommend.
I've experienced great food here on several occasions in the past however unfortunately I wasnt impressed this time. The venue is stylish and cosy (good for date night) which is a far cry from other Indian restaurants however the food was just ok and the value mediocre. Service was fine but thwarted by the food/value. Will re-attempt at some point in the future
We had a dinner with friends from Melbourne who were pleased to add this place to their favourite restaurant list. Excellent food as well as the service. Very unique dishes and each one of them is very tasty, you can feel the freshness of the ingredients.
Named after Southall in London which has a huge Indian population. The service was very warm and welcoming and the naan was the best we've had. The Naan Gruyere special was different and delicious, filled with gruyere in the middle and topped with chunks of blue cheese, honeyed spicy walnuts and rocket.
The flavour of the fish cake special was reminiscent of Cambodian nom banh chok which is full of lemongrass, turmeric and coconut flavour.
Lamb bhuna was nice and spicy. Servings were a good size and we left pleasantly full, and not stuffed.
Tetley's Smooth Ale was great.
Highly recommended!
