Staff were great the atmosphere is super cool if your into that kind of thing but unfortunately the burger was fairly grim not sure if they were under the pump but there wasn't much care put into the food good portion size but poorly executed the house mad hot sauce was awesome

Nice chicken place! Every Wednesday is chicken day, we can enjoy 1 kg chicken wings with $20. Spicy seasoning was really spicy, I should’ve chosen regular but many choose of beers were nice. Thanks!

Located inside the Curtin Hotel, so the selection of drinks is great, plus you might get some live music as well. The food is delicious. Fried chicken, cheeseburger, chips… you can’t go wrong.

Came here for a quick bite before dinner time. Had the Sonny's fried chicken burger and the biscuits and gravy. The chicken burger was a breast piece which was tender and spicy with a good amount of heat; tasty but a little dry, a little more coleslaw would be great. The biscuits were crumbly and buttery; it was satisfying to eat with the savory gravy with a bit of peppery taste.

Tragic. It was Sunday night, only 2 tables counting with us… burgers took almost 40 minutes to arrive! When it arrives, after questioning the kitchen staff, the burgers and fries were freezing cold … after more complaints, a “new” burger came but the meat was overcooked, and the “new” fries were not new and awfully greasy (just re-heated?).
We have been at this place before… unfortunately their quality decreased incredibly.

My Top 3 Fried Chicken Burger Joint

I am a millennial kid who grew up eating $5 burgers from McDonald’s, right? So I naturally get triggered when I see burgers costing more than $10. Like I don’t ever want to pay more than $10 for a burger. That’s friken ludicrous to me you know what I mean?

But not here at Sonny’s. I actually LOVE their fried chicken burger. I am a repeat customer and I actually don’t feel bad paying $14.50 for a burger. Doesn’t feel like a rip-off. They do magic with their old-school Southern American style fried chickens. Good, simple, hearty chicken with a spicy kick to take it up a notch. Friken brilliant man. Mouthful of juicy chicken everytime. Definitely a top contender for the best burgers in Melbourne.

The Sonny Burger is a chicken burger with a peppery scent, but the chicken is really well fried and delicious. It goes really well with the cabbage mayonnaise inside, and it might feel a bit salty, but it's delicious anyway.

I went there in the evening, and you can use the outdoor terrace, and you can enjoy a variety of drinks with the pub.
I tend to be in a youthful atmosphere because I went to college hehe

Did a quick takeaway burger. Nice portion and taste good. I will definitely come back to try the beers and other foods.

I enjoyed the fact that I could eat both a beef burger and chicken on the side, you can buy it by the piece and your choice of dark or white breast meat, which is the one piece I eat. Burgers tasted really good, included are all the classic trimmings. Good didn’t take very long to come out and it has made it in my top 5. Heaps of paid parking around the place, it can get busy, they need an extra person on service, poor guy was taking orders, pouring drinks and bringing the food out when it’s ready.

Best chips in.the.world. And the Sonnys burger is OOTW The tofu burger is also an excellent choice

Had the Double up beef burger with fries. All together $16.50 a bargain. Chicken was good too

My partner ordered the spicy chicken burger in which he inhaled a chunk of hot chilli powder and began to choke. After 5 minutes of struggling to breathe, he took the burger back and explained to the staff that he inhaled the powder, and asked if he could get the crispy chicken burger instead. Reluctantly, the server sent the order off to the kitchen. About 10 mins later, the server brought out a grilled chicken burger with avocado- clearly not what my partner asked for. Only giving two stars as the service was below average and the fries were nice. Will not be returning

Pathetic cheese burger! I felt like I am having McDonald’s cheese burger. The patty was so thin and not cooked properly.

The fried chicken sandwiches are dope. The cheese burger is fire. The chips are crispy and fresh. Sonny’s is awesome and it’s always great dropping in here when I’m in the city. Will always be a regular.

This place is the bomb! Excellent fried chicken and all the southern style sides you could want. We had the 8-piece along with mash, biscuits, mac 'n' cheese, and collard greens. Lots of cool beers on tap and bottle. Only wish they had a few more bourbons and ryes behind the bar as that's what I'm always looking to have for dessert after this kind of meal.

This is one of those places where if you judged it by appearances you’d miss out on some amazing food. Feels like a humble corner pub. Seriously underrated chicken and burgers. I love the sides too especially the chips and potato and gravy…. This is going to be my cheat meal regular

Unfortunately, the quality of the chicken burger changes every time I come, sometimes very tasty and other times the chicken was burnt or had a thin size.

But in general good staff and good food

The John Curtin is an iconic Melbourne pub - the bands that have played here, the labour movement figure who've drunk here - and the food matches the environment.

I had no idea something as simple as a chicken burger could be so good.

Sadly, the building is set to be torn down and replaced with apartments which I think is a tragedy, so seriously, get in here and eat (and drink!) while you still can.

Was served by a super rude person from 1pm she was horrible and hated her job. Food was amazing but HER service was RUDE and I felt UNWELCOME

Since March this year we discovered this place on Uber Eats, me and my partner has been ordering from them almost every fortnight sometimes twice a week. The spicy chicken burger is the best i've ever had in Melbourne, finally a place knows what's spicy really means.
