Small Axe Kitchen reviews
38Staff were so so lovely and the cafe itself is really cute, but the food wasn’t great and took about 45 mins to come out.
Ohhhh we had such a great time today - thank you hardworking Small Axe staff - so welcoming - great attentive service - easygoing friendly vibe. Recommend: meatballs, brekky burger, THE HONEY CAKE
Small Axe
Located in the Brunswick, Small Axe is a little, hip café with a beautiful terrace - perfect for a coffee during a sunny afternoon when the sun ️ warms you up during a cold winter day.
I was happy to see that they are serving the seasonal blend from Code Black, a tasty combination of Colombia and Rwanda: sweet, juicy, and lingering. I went for a long black and as a small but I have chosen the eggplant salad with hummus and roasted broccoli? That was a very healthy and tasty choice that went very well with the juicy long ️.
The longer I sat down in the sun ️ the warmer it got and I suddenly felt the need to order an affogato! I just imagined how well the acidity of the coffee matches the sweetness and creaminess of the vanilla ice cream! Affogato with a double shot of heavenly espresso: my imagination came true: this affogato was out of this world: the beautiful acidity of the coffee made the entire sensory sensation very juicy: MOUTHWATERING.
That was a perfect treat before going back to work and finishing the week strong.
… and I obviously also like the packaging and the smell of the soap? It is about the tiny little details that make the difference.
Wonderful little piece of Brunswick. Pleasant and helpful staff, delicious L'hotdog. Can't wait to go here again!
A real local, different eating areas. A varied menu and great service. Sardines on toast was so yummy
The menu here is great. It is a bit different to your run of the mill breakfast place as it's Italian brunch inspired, but you can still get an Eggs Bennie if you want. Busy place with good service and tasty coffee. The cakes are pretty sweet too!
This was such a good brunch! Really nice cafe on the corner, with some outdoor and indoor seating which appeared to be doggo friendly! We had a pram with us so decided to sit inside and had good space. The staff were all super nice and service was quick and easy. We ordered 2 coffees, the famous breakfast pasta and the porchetta benedict. Food was simply fantastic. Fresh, and full of flavour. We will definitely be back to try more things from the menu!
Visited on weekend and the service was very slow. Waited 10 minutes then had to get up to remind them. Staff was apologetic and frinedly but shouldnt happen. The food ok but despire not having chips with my mortadella bun I had to pay for it as they "dont discount it". A bit rude considering they do charge surcharge for the weekend and chips as an side/extra cost $6 but there is no cut if you dont want any with your bun! Overall, the experience was not worth the cost (time and $). Doubt I'll be back.
Had the Sicilian meatballs and the breakfast pasta and some Bloody Mary's.
The food was fantastic highly recommend.
Great work. The staff are super friendly. I ordered the cheese sandwich with the anchovy and green tomatoes and it was boss. My friend had the eggplant salad. She also thought hers was delicious. The coffee was good too. Great atmosphere and the vibe was busy but pleasant.
Wonderful Mother’s Day brunch. Fabulous food, if you want a Sicilian palate experience, without visiting Taormina, then eat the Classics, including the doughnuts. Be ready to share and go with an empty stomach.
Everything was fresh, flavoursome + light! I decided to have a side of meatballs with the avo and am so pleased with the choice. There was a subtle cinnamony flavour and they were so soft! I need to come back to try the breakfast pasta!
We've been here a couple of times, great service, excellent coffee and the sardines are excellent
Rude staff. Poor service. Weak coffee. Mediocre food. To add insult to injury, you’ll pay a 15% surcharge on the weekend. Oh, and a 1.4% surcharge applies when paying by card. Small Axe, Big Disappointment.
Excellent location away from fume filled Swan Street, just outside East Melbourne Station. Outdoor area, perfect for pooches
The best customer service in Melbourne. What a beautiful place to go for breakfast. We used to live in Brunswick and have been here before with the same experience. But having not been to Brunswick in a while (and granted we know this area is renowned for its service) and living in Melbourne CBD, the comparison could not be more stark! Loved the experience, loved the food, and loved the service. ️
Disgusting, the food was below average. The seating area was dirty. Do not recommend, would not go back there. Waste of money.
Very friendly staff and great choice of breakfast meals. Simply love it. Come and try for yourself
