Small Axe Kitchen

Very busy Sat mid morning and seated pretty quickly. Waiter took our coffee orders but never returned to give water or take our food order. Assuming they were understaffed as manager was yelling for staffs attention across restaurant. We paid for our coffees and left. Menu looked great, shame we couldn’t try it!

Excellent food - simple but ingredients are fresh and taste terrific. Well worthy of standard brunch prices. Decent drinks. Mediterranean-inspired interior.

Popular place, lots of seating but small kitchen can't keep up with demand. Expect to wait 1-2 hrs for your food. Strange for a place that closes at 3pm.

It was delicious.
Ambiance was lovely, service was friendly and attentive.
I had the sardines on toast with their blood orange juice and it was all top quality:)

Got a small coffee takeaway after my Sunday bike ride, was super weak and milky, charged $6.36 for a tiny bit of weak milky coffee…. The staff was friendly though, that’s about the only positive thing I can say.

The pitchers sandwich was dry and for two plates and 3 small coffee we spent $84. Not impressed!

Friendly, attentive and super sweet staff would honestly come back just for her smile and hospo skills <3 croissant was super yummy (little spenny: ’*)

I was very hopeful for this place. If you are after a traditional Sicilian cafe, look elsewhere, if you want the same “Brunswick” fusion cafe as every other place, come here.

Also, 2 coffees and a buscuit came to $21 which is ridiculous by any standards.

The food here was a revelation: truly excellent, delicious, expertly cooked and not too pricey. Service is also excellent.

There are so many fulfilling options to choose from that you are in a quandry to decide what to have. An ideal place to go for brunch. The service was excellent and everyone is so vibrant.

Good coffee and interesting (different but good different) cafe. Cool vibes and space. Had the eggplant salad, was amazing. Will come back!

Coffee was great, but pretty spen! $7.50 for a large oat latte (2 shots) which I took away in my own cup, there’s a 15% weekend surcharge. Didn’t have any food but the selection looked yum, and the staff were lovely.

All the staff was very friendly and helpful when learning the menu and the food was absolutely wonderful.

Two coffees, two juice and a bit of Sicilian doughnuts. Really not at the price tag of 73 dollars. Wow. Dear Head Chef I costed your dish out and you are ripping the customer off big time. Waitstaff walk past your every bite to remind you that they are hungry too and your presence is not at all accepted. The coffee cups are literally designed so you feel you will buy another one because its not enough-Forks are bent for putting in the mouth? Well that's new and thats about it #enjoy

One of my absolute favourite Brunswick haunts. The food is always spectacular, the coffee is consistently top notch and the staff are genuinely wonderful. I always recommend this cafe to friends and family visiting Melbourne and it's always a hit.

Only had a chai and a juice so can't say anything about the food but the place has a really nice vibe and the staff were super nice we'll come back!

Fantastic coffee and the L’Hotdog absolutely nailed it! Very friendly staff made for a welcoming experience. Top shelf!
