Slate Restaurant Bar reviews
48Good food with a variety of dishes from Asian to Pastas to Burgers. Great for work lunches or after work events.
Food was good. Not much choice in the cocktails. Ambiance and vibe was ok. But the whole experience was ruined by the very rude bartenders on the lower floor on this night. Wouldn’t come here again and definitely won’t be recommending it to anyone else. I don’t think I’ve ever had such terrible customer service in Melbourne.
Loved it! What a great rooftop bar. DJ Ed keeps the place vibing. Great staff, yum food. The owner and everyone there are super friendly and just a great night out at Slate!
Food was very tasty, service was amazing.
Only downside was the music was quite loud and was difficult to talk to everyone on the table.
Great bar staff with advanced knowledge and appreciation of their drinks. The DJ is excellent also! We had a great time.
Really great experience and great personable staff that went above and beyond to make our visit memorable.
Nice atmosphere but DJ was a bit loud and the food was a let down. 5 of us ordered a range of different things (tacos, burgers, seafood) and everyone said their meals weren’t very nice.
The atmosphere is super good.
The spirit cocktail in happy hour it's a steal and taste good!
Service was great, staff are awesome, for an early evening visit with not too many people there the music/DJ was probably a bit loud
Went to Slate for a business lunch. We sat upstairs outside in the deck. Although the weather was horrible, it is covered and heated and was very comfortable.
The food is very good too. I had gnocchi with spanner crab and fennel. It wasn't the largest serving of gnocchi I've had at a restaurant, but I certainly wasn't hungry afterwards. The gnocchi were perfect, soft and tender, and the sauce was delicious, though with more of a subtle flavour than a "smack you in the face" amount of flavour.
Overall, it was a very pleasant lunch.
I always enjoy going to Slate. It has a good vibe, though you do have to get in early as it does get busy.
Me and my partner were so excited to come here for dinner as the menu looked great and we were staying just a few doors down at Wyndham Hotel. My partner chose the Thai Chicken Tacos which were delicious! I unfortunately chose the sirloin steak which was sinewy and not nice at all. A gravey would also have not gone astray. Would I go here again? Maybe, but I would def not order steak!
Imagine you’re in a another city. You’ve just checked out of your hotel and all of a sudden your stomach starts hurting. You realise you really need to go to the toilet. You frantically walk around looking for a restroom. You ask this restaurant and they say yes you can use their private restroom. Such kindness.
If you ever get a chance, grab lunch on the rooftop. Melbourne is quickly becoming my favorite city outside of where I live but Slate is one of those places that is relaxed and yet still great food and service. Highly recommend the beer battered barramundi with cucumber salad and fries.
I went here with a group of about 15-20 for lunch on a Wednesday. They managed the group booking well, asked us to order ahead and brought out our food quickly once we arrived. I had the eggplant angolotti, which was alright. My friends didn't think their food was amazing, so I don't think we'll be going back. However, that might just be our taste. The restaurant itself had really good vibes, great service, and a nice outdoor rooftop area as well.
Came here for a work lunch and ordered the battered barramundi.
Barramundi was yum, tartare and salad wass yum.
Chips was yum but very minimal. You can see from the pictures that there were gaps on the plate.
Would've appreciated a little more generosity of chips given the dish was about $25.
My husband’s retirement function was held last week at this lovely establishment. Cameron and Illy were only too willing to help with any requests, and the quality of the finger food was excellent.
Thanks again, and we highly recommend this venue.
We came here for a team lunch and most people already pre-ordered. I was a last minute addition but they took my order and the food arrived the same time as everyone else's, so I really appreciated that.
My gnocchi with veal ragu was tasty but the gnocchi texture was like powdery marshmallow and quite distracting. My colleagues also rated their meals at 3 out of 5.
Lively vibes to enjoy a meal and happy hour in modern but classy decor. Service was friendly but perhaps too efficient after we finished eating - one colleague joked maybe they've run out of crockery. There was also a 9 cent charge for pre-ordering, which in my opinion is a bit petty. Melbourne's gastronomic scene is highly competitive so this has room for improvement.
Had a great experience with these guys when I had an event here 2 weeks ago on a Friday evening. Not all of my 30 guests could make it but we all enjoyed the atmosphere, the drinks and the music was very good too! The person that helped me organised it was very friendly and responsive. Highly recommend it! I will be getting my friends to have their next function here too.
Thanks Cameron for helping me out with the booking for our office lunch. Was a wonderful experience, the food drinks and service were all great. Would always recommend
