Sir Henry Barkly Hotel reviews
65Meals were huge but nice. Wasnt busy but service was slow, had to ask to get plates cleared from table.
I love this place so much. I go every Wednesday night with partner as it’s our fave close bar, and their bar snacks are amazing! The squid, dumplings and ribs are so delicious. Great vibe and service is always lovely. Bravo guys ️
Stumbled in for a quick bite, ended up with the "small bites" special, which was anything but small, with a side of kipflers. All this washed down with a blizzardly cold pale ale. A great place for a a very tasty and we'll prepared meal. Would recommend
Didn't have a great expectation but was pleasantly surprised by the excellent food. Crispy skin salmon to die for and seafood linguine really good. Affogatto very nicely presented. Service was efficient in welcoming. Highly recommend.
Been regular lunch patrons for approx 3 years, with a group of ladies, small meals suit us. Staff are friendly, helpful + extremely welcoming. During recent Covid lock downs, Rachael in particular has been professional, kind + extremely helpful on phone. We are already booked for Friday.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff!
The pork Schnitzel was way to big for me. Lovely and warm place to be on a cold day!
It's a lovely place to have a meal and what makes it special is the staff who are friendly and helpful.
Thanks guys.

Went for an easy Friday lunch during my work day. Quick service. Lovely updated venue and the Parma was really good for price and taste! Would Def go again!
Food good staff good. Actually went there to have a feed and watch the football. The football result wasn't what was wanted. But the night with good food and good company more than made up for it. Will be back again. Cheers Ian
Came here over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, the staff members were all welcoming and well groomed. I ordered the typical parma and loved the distribution of the meal. Drinks are well priced and I loved the outdoor seating area in the beer garden. Will definitely make a return sometime soon. Thankyou guys
Excellent venue just need to get rid of over zealous security. Especially when cant speak English
Nice clean place, except the toilet smell if you sit too close to the bathrooms in the bistro area.
Nice food but very limited menu and expensive. They have pokies but not the best machines, and any good ones they had were out of order due to covid.
Great little temporary beer garden.
I don’t normally write reviews but I definitely had to comment on my recent experience. Everyone is so welcoming, the service was brilliant, quick and delicious! Thank you to all the staff ️
Sir Henry Barkly GCMG KCB FRS FRGS (24 February 1815 – 20 October 1898) was a British politician, colonial governor and patron of the sciences.
Sir Henry Barkly
Born in 1815 at Highbury, Middlesex (now London), he was the eldest son of Æneas Barkly, a West India merchant. He was educated at Bruce Castle School in Tottenham, where the school's particular curriculum endowed him with a lifetime interest in science and statistics. [1]
Upon completing his schooling and studies in commerce, Barkly worked for his father. The Barkly family had several connections with the West Indies: Barkly's mother, Susannah Louisa, whose maiden name was ffrith, was the daughter of a Jamaica planter; his father's company was concerned with trade in the West Indies; and the family owned an estate in
According to the Legacies of British Barkly's father was compensated £132,000 from the Imperial Parliament for the emancipation of some 4,440 slaves in 1834. Barkly inherited his father's estate in 1836 at the age of 20. He was awarded two of the compensation claims following his father's death. He remained involved in the partnership until 1843.
Frendly staff and reasonable food. By comparison to other hotels in the area, this one isn't bad.
The staff are friendly and obliging. Lacked ambiance. The food overpriced for mostly very fried up foods. Hotel food needs to improve.
Friendly staff and atmosphere. Changing the bottle shop drive through for a beer garden was a stroke of genius. Limited food menu given covid restrictions - overall a pleasant place for a drink and chat.
Great place for a drink or meal. Great range of cocktails. OK with catering for special dietary requirements.
Would have to be the worst pokie venue in Melbourne. Not only did I play and lose 900 with f all free spins they charge you $4 for a glass of coke I've not known a venue that charges players for softdrink. The staff were not very helpful either.
The only positive was the security guard on the door huge smile and very welcoming and a genuine merry Xmas on my way out,
Awesome venue. With amazing quality food along with very good choice of Beverage and happy and courteous service. Highly Recommend and definately gem in the suburbs.
