Had my first omakase and it was amazing at Shoya. Had the classic degustation and changed the normal beef dish to waygu and that was the best decision we made! Would come back again

Very friendly staffs
The food was okay but I had food poisoning
Never have any food poisoning with others Japanese food restaurants before

The restaurant was underwhelming, no atmosphere. The staff were kind but service was very slow. Don’t go there on an empty stomach. Minimal pieces/portions per serving and pricey.

Our second time coming here to get another birthday lunch as a family of 4. We all had set menus. Sashimi tasted fresh but we all felt that everything wasn’t as good as a couple years back.

Unfortunately what stood out more as a negative was the particular waitress that waited on our table. Her customer service and customer engagement was very poor. It seemed like she was in a bad mood and her replies were very curt. She accidentally swapped two of our set menus and we realised when the mains came around— we told her we were given the wrong dishes swapped around and all she said was “ok just swap back then”.

All the other staff were actually great and friendly; so we acknowledge that if we had these other staff wait on our table, the experience would’ve been different entirely which would affect the rating.

One of the main meals with meat came out cold, after a bit of an exchange we got a new plate entirely. The manager came to serve that. She apologized and engaged very well.

It's great, they just didn't fully grasp that we wanted everything at once since we were on a lunch break

This is the worst Japanese restaurant l've ever had, and the waiter keeps pushing it.
Their food was small and expensive, They served the food very slowly and we waited for a long time. Their food sucks, and just because I asked for well-done beef doesn't mean they can cook it old and dark. Their hygiene isn't good either. There's leftovers on the floor. The floor was cold, they had no slippers for the guests, and the seats were hard

Been coming here for over 15 years, food is still consistently good. High quality and attention to detail with everything just as you would hope for and appreciate from an authentic Japanese restaurant. After so many years you still see owner and head chef Shigeo-san slicing fish for sushi and sashimi at the bar and why I think the standard hasn’t dropped, dedication to his finely honed craft. Thank you for all that you do!

The limited kaisen chirashi lunch set offers a diverse range of sashimi cuts at a great price. Please don’t order it - I don’t want to have to compete with others!

Furthermore, shoya offers excellent service, horigotatsu seating and a fun Japanese bidet in the bathroom!

Food tasted great. We went for their omakase menu, it was good but certainly on the pricey end. The dessert was very basic not worth it if they do sell it for a la carte. Atmosphere was alright too, think they should have asked if we want to use the standard table or the Japanese style tables. All good otherwise.

Went there for the lunch set menu and everything was delicious. Service is also quite good. Recommend.

We sat at the counter and watched the sushi master at work. The dishes were expertly prepared and presented. Recommend the tasting Wagyu. The hatchling is their signature entree and Instagram worthy. Service was impeccable.

The food quality is bad for such an overpriced restaurant! Seshami is not fresh and does not taste good! We ended up leaving half of the dish whereas normally I am a fan of sashimi!

Great Japanese food. Forgot to shoot the abalone which tastes nice as well. I personally like the sashimi and the black saseme the most. The service is also good and the staff are friendly.

We had the $165 omakase set menu but unfortunately it wasn't remarkable.

To be fair, ingredients were fresh and efforts were definitely made into making these delicacies. But there are a lot more (some even better) options in that price bracket which in comparison makes it less attractive to return to.

Service was also great though.

A really nice and delicious experience on the new year’s Eve. The authentic Japanese food is always my fav and their service is perfect. I love how they serve the edamame in a jag bottle which makes me can’t stop eating jt.

Dined here on NY's eve for my girlfriends birthday and honestly Shoya did not disappoint! Really amazing fine dining experience, the staff were all extremely attentive always checking up on us and filling up our glasses. Each dishes were presented beautifully especially the sashimi moriawase in the ice bowl, both the A5 wagyu beef and Toro was delicious, but honestly couldn't fault any of the dishes we ordered from the A La Carte menu. Highly recommend the experience dining here!

What a great experience!
Amazing food and good service but not over priced. The quality of the food and the taste are above many other fine dining Japanese restaurants around Melbourne

Highly recommended the Treasure Roll and Smoked Lobster. Oishii Desu!

Went there for lunch with friends and had the lunch set with sashimi and grilled fish and tempura. I'd say they are average. The price isn't super expensive either. Okay to dine in but probably won't be back again.
