Shizuka Ryokan Japanese Country Spa Retreat reviews
70Amazing for a four star getaway. Very authentic. You feel like you have stepped into another world. Loved my rooms beautiful tatami mats, comfy futon and my own private Japanese garden with a water feature. The included breakfast is totally authentic and 5 star. The chefs here know what they are doing.
Lovely place, really worth a visit. Genuine Japanese SPA with great staff, lovely food and a beautiful location
Wow, what an awesome experience.
Everything Japanese from the most delicious breakfast to an Amazing room. I even enjoyed sleeping on the futon.
Thank you Catherine, Yu and Ruri
I loved doing the craft session on Bora stitching
An amazing experience.
Amazing service and very clean.
Would highly recommend this business.
Very lively staff
Awesome and relaxing getaway. Loved the furnishings and decorations. Staff were very polite and helpful all the time.
Beautiful and traditional retreat with all the hallmarks of Japan but extremely pretentious for no reason, which is very un Japanese. The food is good but the owner is overbearing and pushy and it was difficult to relax with her hovering around all the time. We were asked in a presumptuous way if we would be leaving early as we weren’t staying for breakfast on our second day and upon departure, chased with a credit card machine as if we were going to make a run for it and not pay for our expenses. Very very disappointing and I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you want privacy.
Shizuka Ryokan was the perfect setting for an indulgent tranquil and unique anniversary getaway. Dining in yukata robes was a delightful experience. Breakfast and dinner was great (broth would hv been awesome if it was piping hot instead of warm-ish). The place inspires a tech-free zone, so feeding the horse, playing many of the board-games by the fireplace were a fantastic way to past time. The team is so hospitable and all the extra touches (hand drawn card, choc and welcome pot of tea) made our celebration even sweeter.
It was our first time here and it was perfect! We only went to have bfast and a massage. We didn’t stay overnight but Catherine was kind enough to show us one of the rooms as I asked her if we can have a look for our future stay. The room was lovely and very clean which is a tick in a box for us! Back to the breakfast - japanese style bfast. Food is delicious! Just like in Japan. The massage - I had reflexology while my partner had a shiatsu massage. We both had a snooze during our session because it was great!
Overall, Shizuka Ryokan is a very lovely place. Ambience is really nice - both calming and relaxing. 5/5
Will definitely come back again that’s for sure!
Thank you Catherine, Maggie and the rest of the staff! Plus their 17yo dog which I didn’t get the name.
Very peaceful and quiet environment. Friendly staff, spa was really good and the japanese breakfast taste really authentic as well. And i would definitely come back again.
We went for a day trip babymoon package, which included massage and dinner. The entire team are lovely, friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend Maggie, who did the pregnancy massage and Fiona who did a relaxation massage on my partner. Dinner was exquisite, with a modified version that was pregnancy-friendly.
Thank you so much, took my daughter here for dinner last night "locals night ".
The meal was beautifully presented and delicious. Service, the best! And we were treated like VIP s.
Highly recommend,
World-class hospitality and the best Japanese breakfast in Victoria. Definitely worth visiting if you haven’t been to a Ryokan before!
We just visited Shizuka Ryokan over the weekend for a short honeymoon trip that our friends gifted us. It is like a piece out of Japan in the beautiful Hepburn Springs. The room setting, the lounge and Catherine are just the loveliest parts of Shizuka Ryokan. We had the Japanese Breakfast on both mornings as well as the Omakase dinner and OMG the food was out of this world. Finally my masseuse Sarah who performs the training Japanese Massage is the AMAZING, so good at what she does and a great conversation to. A DEFINITE RECOMMENDATION!
Wonderfulness from the moment we walked through the front door, we were greeted with robes and slippers, shown around the premises, settled into our room and then we were brought a pot of tea to enjoy. The food is fantastic, the service is the best I have ever received, nothing is to much to do for you. Breakfast is a must. Must take apples for the horse and watch the kookaburra in the afternoon.
Very friendly staff.
The place is extremely relaxing. That would be the best choice for anyone looking for a chill out time in Hepburn
This was the most tranquil breakfast experience ever and Richards massage was fantastic thank you
It was Lexie's birthday Last Sat. We arrived late Friday afternoon. A Japanese Girl YU check-in for us. We are regular guest of this Japanese style resort for many years, they always keep the level of their service very high and always have little touches with their guest! I love the card they wrote to Lexie, and the Massage was really really good as well. Shizuka Ryokan is a secret that I do not want to share with people, coz I worry that if they have more guest and the price might go up. But surprisingly, the price is not going up for the last 6 years. I love them, especially Owner Catherine.and Maggie. We missed their Dinner, but we will definitely go again very soon, just for the dinner.
A group of friends and I had a wonderful 5 course meal last night. Everything was just delicious and prepared with care and attention. Thanks Shizuka!
Amazing retreat, very peaceful and relaxing. The meals were incredible and it was possibly the best massage I've ever received.
Very relaxing and cosy getaway accommodation. Has about 6 rooms, and on site massages are available. Our room had a private (small) garden and sun room. Facilities were very clean and in keeping with a Japanese ryokan theme. Staff were Japanese and very polite/helpful.
