Shepparton Art Museum reviews
41 An imposing and impressive building opened last year with a perfect position on Victoria Park Lake as you drive into Shepparton city. Great exhibition of art works from the galleries collection.
There is a cafe on site and an indigenous art organisation.
The tourist information centre is also housed on the ground floor. There are caravan parking areas nearby adjacent the car park and on the highway just on the city side of the museum.
This place is brand new, we had about an hour to kill before a family occasion in Shepparton and had driven past. The art is fantastic, and there is also a Cafe that was extremely comfortable with very friendly staff, in particular Sherryn who deserves an extra shout out.
Something to do while you’re in Shepp; check out what’s on exhibit, lunch at the cafe/restaurant (must), then take a stroll around the lake to finish off a nice relaxing day.
Disgusting waste of tax payers money on a far too big extravagant building with a few art displays. Nice cafe with rude staff. Surely the money spent on this building should have gone to schools or medical facilities or homeless people.
I did like the paintings in this museum. All staff are nice and happy to help. There are lots of things to learn from the explanations just next to each painting and much more to explore.
Such a pleasure to move around an art gallery that is so well organised, staff are friendly and the displays are positioned do that people can move easily to view and access the written information.
Amazing Albert Namajera wall. So many of this family members painting in his style along with his original paintings.
Awesome museum Well worth a visit Well set out and very inspiring Lunch at the coffee shop, excellent Shepperton should be very proud of this one
Free and worth a visit. Cafe is also nice with views over North shep and Lake.
Cafe is also decent coffee and food
We were welcomed at the entrance. The cafe is great and the exhibits showcase the amazing talent of the artists
How wonderful that Shepparton has this gem. A stunning building that is attraction enough filled with an interesting collection, great little shop and tasty cafe. And the museum is free!
Great venue and awesome views of the lake and gardens. The takeaway coffee l ordered, despite being excellent, took over 20 minutes.
An incredible experience. Well curated galleries showcasing significant local and national art. Beautiful surroundings on the lake with stunning views over the tree canopy. Highly recommend chatting to the girls in the Kaela Art Centre who are descendants of some of the most influential Australians of the 20th century. Well done Shepp!
The gallery is set out over 4 levels, with both stairs and elevators allowing access. The collections are well set out and the staff are friendly and helpful.
Some parts of the exhibition were poorly presented, in particular the Hermannsburg paintings related to Albert Namatjira and his relatives.
The great disappointment was having lunch at the cafe. The setting is lovely, looking down on the lagoons but the food is VERY ordinary. I has the smoked duck which was totally over cooked and my wife had the kalamari which was flaccid. The freshly made but also ordinary green salad was the best dish. I had a better meal a a Euro pub the night before!
A beautiful space filled with many unique and incredible pieces of Aboriginal art. There was also a kid dance space.
Great location but cafe needs to be open 7 days. Art works need some famous painting features but this will evolve in time
Loved the Lin Onus exhibition as well as The Call to Echo exhibition by Amrita Hepi. Lovely spot for a chilled out afternoon and get a coffee afterwards at the lovely cafe run by very friendly staff:)
Fantastic art museum and multi-purpose facility. Well planned and built, a great feature for the area. Highly recommended to visit. Cafe was short staffed when we visited but service was still excellent.
Travelled from Melbourne on a day trip to see this new art gallery and its various exhibitions. Well worth the trip. The gallery and its setting are wonderfull. Peaceful and inviting. There is a dynamic installation from Amrita Hepi called A Call to Echo. It is probably the most interesting and engaging installation in the gallery.
