Shanghai Street On Russell reviews
42Visited around 2 years ago. The food was only okay. But straight after dined there, I had food poisoning, which made me had a diarrhea and vomited on the street. I suspected it was linked to this restaurant.
I love the dumplings here. Have tried lots of dishes and all were good. I would go for pan-fried pork dumplings, that's my fav. My boyfriend called "wonton peanut in chili oil", and it was also amazing. The other ones were tradition xiao long bao and pan-friend chicken and prawn were good as well. However, the vinegar sauce was too strong that I rather choose soy sauce then. And I have to wait a little bit long although the store wasn't too busy. Anyway, this place is great, reasonable price and quite tasty. Highly recommend!
Outrageously good food served at this tiny restaurant. This is a cut above the average chinese restaurant.
Ordered the pan fried pork dumplings but they did not compare to the ones at their other store on Little Bourke St. When they came to the table, they were not hot and you could tell they were not pan fried properly and the dumplings themselves had not been "shaped" properly.
Have been to the other Shanghai Street on little bourke before but this was the first time at the newer location. Food was up to the high standard I expected! Loved the Wontons in Peanut Chilli sauce especially! Would highly recommend as it's great food at an affordable price.
Cheap and fast.this is perfect when in a rush and you crave dumplings! (probably unhygienic though)
As, i have been lucky it was also a great place to visit in 2015 and it's namesake in China perfect
Good xiao long bao and fried dumplings. The chili wontons with the peanut sauce was not really for me and a bit sweet and they were all stuck together because they were crammed in a small dish. Not as busy as the other Shanghai Streets in the city but I find the food not quite as good as the others. The setting is also not as nice and feels a bit sad. The price was very good and portions are great too. All in all it's not a bad place but I prefer the branch on Little Bourke.
One of the great dumpling shop, especially the shanghai style dumpling. Too bad taste and quality are often inconsistent
This Shanghai dumpling restaurant on Russell Street has the usual selection of dumplings and noodles. Liked the spicy silken tofu served cold with preserved egg. Service is quick and efficient.
The best location of this solid chain. Friendly service, great location and nice atmosphere. Other branches are less friendly and dumplings seemed nicer here too.
Yum! Good food, clean and nice vibe. The service is good no pressure in making you choose your dish, pork dumplings my fav.
Food is quite cheap for the amount you get. Quality wise, not too bad but not overly great.
Place is spacious and clean.
Delightful dumplings!
I always go to Shanghai Street Dumplings when I visit Melbourne. The dumplings and noodles are delicious, tasty and very reasonably priced. I think that my favourites are the pork and dumplings in chilli oil with peanut and sesame butter sauce - at 15 dumplings for $11.80 it's amazing value!
This may well be authentic Shanghainese food. In that case, no more Shanghainese food for me. Its ok.sweet oily noodles. But when there is so much delicious Cantonese food to be had around this area why would you bother with this place?
Crispy chicken noodles was scrumptious.one can be shared by 2 people.perfectly cooked.but didnt like the chicken-bacon momos.it was little dry.
Can't vouch for anything else, but the dumplings here are amazing and pretty reasonably priced.
Have been here a few times now and generally really enjoy all the meals - especially anything noodle related.
Had the spicy noodles with minced pork and noodles. Sauce had the perfect heat (not crazy hot despite the 2 chilli rating) and was really flavorsome. Noodles were great and really satisfying.
This is the best Shanghai Street franchise restaurant in the CBD. I have tried three. At the Russell St restaurant the service is always quick, ingredients are fresher and they supply a superior range of complimentary sauces. Also the waitresses are very friendly and pleasant. I have been treated poorly one too many times at the Little Bourke st branch so I come here because it is better food and service in my opinion.
